Does He Know?

BRYAN

This cannot be happening.

I stared at Lara as she began to weep. All I could do was hold her and say, “It’s okay. You’ll be fine.”

We stayed like that for about thirty minutes before I finally mustered the courage to ask, “When did you find out?”

“Just last week,” she said, trying to wipe away her tears with the back of her hand. “At the same time, I found out I was pregnant.”

“And does your husband know?” That was what I genuinely wanted to know.

“He thinks I’m making things up to get attention from him.” Her voice cracked as she tried to stifle more tears.

“Some husband he is.” I clenched my jaw. “This is exactly why I never liked him. What kind of husband can’t even be there for you when you need him the most? I mean, it was his child too, wasn’t it?” I tried hard not to raise my voice, but everything about this situation made my blood boil.

“It was his.” She sounded so shaky as she replied.

“And where is he now?”

“I don’t know. Probably with Ria.” She spat the name out like poison.

Now everything was clear to me. After all these years, it was still painfully obvious that Gerald was in love with Ria, even after she left him for another man. But I couldn’t say anything about that because here I was, doing the same thing: loving someone who belonged to someone else. My blood practically bubbled with anger at the state Lara was in.

“You have to leave him. I’ll ask my lawyer to help you prepare the divorce papers. Let me take care of you. We’ll travel somewhere you can get the absolute best treatment money can buy.” I tightened my fists, determined not to let anything happen to her again.

She stayed silent for a moment, obviously trying to process my words.

“I’m pretty sure Gerald will continue not believing you,” I continued, “and honestly, I can’t lose you.”

“Bryan, maybe Gerald is acting this way because Ria got inside his head, planting lies to pull us apart.” She lowered her gaze, almost like she was trying to convince herself of the same thing.

“You are still trying to defend him? Even after he practically left you for dead?” I stared at her in disbelief. “Wow, Lara.”

“Bryan, listen to me. I’m sure he’ll come to his senses once he sees the doctor’s medical reports. All I need is a chance to talk to him privately and make him understand.” Her eyes filled with tears again.

“I can’t believe you right now, Lara. The doctor said you were lucky I brought you here in time. That means you could have lost your life because of his negligence, and you’re still here trying to defend him from a hospital bed.”

“As I said, Bryan, it’s all a misunderstanding. He doesn’t really know what’s going on with me.”

“Don’t lie to yourself, Lara. You told him. He refused to believe you.” My jaw tightened as anger simmered beneath my calm tone.

“It was Ria.” Her voice dropped. “She convinced him I was lying. She even hid the hospital papers. She hit me and caused my miscarriage. She killed my baby, then stabbed herself so she could play the victim. It was all her doing.” Her shoulders trembled violently as tears streamed down her face.

I was completely speechless. Completely livid. I didn’t want Lara to see me lose control, as I was so enraged. One thing was certain: Ria was evil, and I didn’t want her anywhere near Lara.

“Do you see now that it’s all Ria’s doing?” Lara’s voice trembled. “She’s willing to do anything just to push me out of the picture so she and Gerald can have their happily ever after.”

“Lara, I understand what you’re saying, but Gerald still has his faults. How can he be so blinded by your sister that he doesn’t realize you’re the one getting hurt? You are his wife, not her.”

“I completely agree.” She nodded slowly. “That’s why I need to show him the truth so he can finally see the whole picture. At least he deserves one chance to prove he’s not as bad as this situation makes him seem.”

“Bryan, I know you only want what’s best for me, and I appreciate that. But he’s my husband. I can’t just give up on him or our marriage like that.” She stared at me.

“He left you bleeding on the floor, Lara. That’s not something small. If you had died, would he still have gotten a second chance to prove he wasn’t a terrible person?” I clenched my jaw tightly.

How can she still be thinking of this after what he put her through?!

“Just give me a little time, please. I’m sure I can make him see the truth, and he’ll practically beg me for forgiveness because I know Gerald loves me.” Her fingers tightened around the hospital blanket as though she was clinging to hope itself.

I hated seeing her cry.

“Lara, we are leaving, and that’s final. Whether you make him see his mistakes or not, I’m taking you with me. I can’t stand by and watch you wither away—not on my watch. Do you understand me?” I kept my voice calm but firm so she would understand I wasn’t joking.

“It’s your health, for crying out loud. So you have about a week to get your things ready and get Gerald to sign the divorce papers. I’ll have my lawyers send them over.” I left no room for argument in my tone.

I softened slightly. “You need to rest. I have to start preparing everything for our trip. Please don’t stress yourself thinking about someone who obviously doesn’t care about you.”

All she could do was nod because deep down, I knew she understood I was right.

I gave her a quick hug before leaving the hospital room.

I wasn’t going to let Lara die because of another man’s stupidity.

  • Too Late To Get Me Back, Husband    Pain

RIAPain. That was the first thing I felt when I opened my eyes. For a few seconds, I didn't know where I was. My head throbbed, and a sharp pain ran through my side every time I tried to breathe. I blinked several times, trying to make sense of the darkness around me.Then I remembered. The car.Daniel.The road. The crash.I tried to move my arm, but something was pressing against it. When I looked down, I realized I was still trapped inside the car.The vehicle had overturned.Broken glass covered the seats and dashboard, while smoke drifted through the cabin and made my eyes sting. Somewhere nearby, something was leaking, and the faint smell of gasoline filled the air."Daniel?"My voice came out barely above a whisper.I turned toward the driver's seat.Daniel was slumped over the steering wheel. Blood ran from a cut on his forehead and disappeared beneath his hair."Daniel?"He didn't move.I stared at him for a moment, unsure whether I should be relieved or worried. He had trie

RIAI sat rigidly in the passenger seat, staring at the unfamiliar phone in my hand. My fingers were still trembling from everything that had happened, but the messages on the screen had nothing to do with the shaking. They had frozen me in place. Devil was alive. Somehow, despite the bullet I had fired into his side, he was alive, and he had managed to get this phone into my possession without me even realizing it."Ria?" Daniel called, glancing at me from behind the steering wheel. "Are you okay?"I looked at him, but the question seemed impossible to answer. How could I tell him that the man who had kidnapped me was already contacting me? How could I explain any of this without sounding insane? I looked down at the phone again, hoping the messages would somehow disappear, but they remained exactly where they were."I'm fine," I finally whispered.Daniel gave me a skeptical look. "You don't look fine.""I just need a hospital."The moment I said it, I realized how badly I needed one

RIAI ran until my lungs felt as though they were going to burst. I had no idea where I was going, and at that point, I didn't care. All that mattered was putting as much distance as possible between myself and Devil, his men, and that horrible room.My footsteps echoed through the narrow corridor as I stumbled forward, one hand pressed against the wall to keep myself upright. The gun was still clutched in my other hand, and when I looked down at it, my fingers began to tremble. There was blood on them. His blood.I swallowed hard as the realization settled over me again. I had shot him. I had actually pulled the trigger.A door appeared ahead, and I rushed toward it, grabbing the handle with desperate hope. It didn't move."Locked."I twisted it again, harder this time, but nothing happened.Behind me came the sound of shouting."Find her!""She's somewhere in the building!""Check every room!"My heart slammed against my ribs. They were coming for me.I looked around desperately and

  • Too Late To Get Me Back, Husband    Good Morning.

RIAThe first thing I felt when I opened my eyes was something cold brushing against my leg.I froze. For a few seconds, I couldn't understand what I was feeling. My head was heavy, and everything around me was dark. My wrists ached, and when I tried to move them, I realized they were tied tightly behind my back. Then something moved against my ankle.Slowly, I looked down.A pair of pale eyes stared back at me from the darkness. My breath caught in my throat.A snake.I jerked backward instinctively, but there was nowhere to go. My shoulders slammed against the wooden wall behind me, and the movement caused several other shapes to stir around my feet. There wasn't just one. There were several."No..."My voice came out as a broken whisper.I looked around frantically, trying to make sense of where I was. I was inside a wooden box barely large enough for me to sit upright. The walls were rough, and the only light came through several narrow openings near the top.Snakes crawled across

RIAWhen I opened my eyes, pain greeted me before anything else.It wasn't the sharp kind that came from a single wound. It was everywhere, deep and relentless, crawling through every inch of my body until even breathing felt like a punishment. My head throbbed violently, sending pulses of agony through my temples, and I squeezed my eyes shut again, hoping the darkness would somehow make it disappear. For several seconds, I didn't move. I was too afraid to.Where was I?Slowly, I forced my eyes open and stared at the unfamiliar ceiling above me. The room was dimly lit, with heavy curtains drawn across the windows and only thin rays of sunlight slipping through the gaps. The faint hum of an air conditioner filled the silence, making the room feel strangely peaceful despite the terror slowly building inside me.I tried lifting my hand.Something tugged against my wrist. My brows furrowed in confusion as I looked down, and the moment I saw the restraint wrapped tightly around my wrist,

RIA I immediately pulled out my phone and called the men I had hired, hoping one of them would answer and tell me they had already found Lara. The call rang until it disconnected, so I tried again. Then a third time. Still nothing. “Pick up, damn it!” I snapped, gripping the steering wheel as I called another number. “What the hell is wrong with you people?” No one answered. Frustration burned through me. They had taken my money, promised they would handle Lara, and now that she had escaped, they had suddenly disappeared. I couldn't even call the police and report her missing. What would I tell them? That I had hired people to find her? That I knew exactly why she had disappeared? I would only be putting myself in danger. I tossed my phone onto the passenger seat and leaned back, breathing heavily. My head was throbbing from everything that had happened in the last few hours. Gerald was in police custody, Lara was somewhere out there, and the people I had trusted to solve my prob
