Mag-log inAndrew’s POVThe pain in my arm was red hot, and I was on the verge of passing out. But I clenched my jaw. I had to keep my wits about me.The sight of Julia tied up to a chair was enough to fight off the dizziness that threatened to engulf me. I had to stay strong, for her.“I’m so sorry,” I said to her.“Oh, that’s sweet,” Charlotte scoffed. “Are the lovebirds having a moment?”I shot a glare at Charlotte, but then brought my eyes back to Julia. “This is all my fault,” I told her. “I put you in danger and…”“You don’t have to apologize,” Julia answered, her eyes flooded with warmth. “This isn’t your fault, Andrew.”“All right. Enough. You two are so sweet you’re giving me diabetes. You can apologize all you want when you’re locked up downstairs. The passcode, Andrew. I’m losing my patience.”At those words, the two men in black stepped forward, their arms crossed over their chests in an imposing way.“You don’t have to give it to her,” Julia said.“It’s just money,” I told her.“It’
Julia’s POVMy mind reeled when there was a knock on the front door.It was Andrew, come to save me. Shaking my head, I wanted to call out to him. He shouldn’t be here. Two men stood by the front door, hands on their guns. I had no idea who these men were, but I knew enough to know they were dangerous. My half-sister had made a life out of criminal behaviour. Who knew what she’d done in the past? I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t feel real. I never, in a million years, thought my own flesh and blood was some sort of con artist. And this was going to be her last con. That’s what she had said. She was going to rob Andrew’s company and take off to a beach somewhere.I was the bait. She’d drugged me and hauled me here. She knew that Andrew would come for me. I was the way to lure him in, so she could get what she wanted. But glancing at the two men standing by the door, fear rippled through me. Their muscular arms were covered in deep black tattoos. One of them leered at me, a lascivious s
Julia’s POVFifteen minutes earlier…The scent of something sharp and pungent filled my nose, snapping me out of my groggy haze. My eyes flew open and I saw Charlotte kneeling in front of me, waving something under my nose.“Good evening, Sleeping Beauty,” she smirked. “Did you have a nice nap?”Struggling, I realized that my feet and ankles were bound by something. Rope. I was sitting on a wooden chair in the middle of a room. Glancing around, I saw two men dressed in black standing near the door. They were the two same men that I’d seen in the room at the gala event right before everything had gone dark.Charlotte had drugged my drink. She hauled me into a room right before I fainted. Then she must have taken me here, to this room, and tied me up.My heart hammered in my chest as the grogginess from the drugs faded away. She’d been waving smelling salts under my nose, and the smelling salts were bringing back some clarity to my mind.“What are you doing?” I asked her. She was sittin
Andrew’s POVClenching the phone, fear rippled through me.“Where is she?” I growled into the phone. All around me, people chatted and danced. It felt surreal.“You must do exactly as I say,” the distorted voice said into the phone. “Come to address I give you. Alone. If you bring anyone with you, you will never see Julia again. Do you understand?”“Yes,” I replied, my voice low.Julia had been kidnapped. My mind raced and my heart pounded in my chest. Someone bumped into me from behind, slopping his drink onto my sleeve.“Whoops, sorry about that,” the person mumbled, his eyes glossed over from too much alcohol. Waving him off in frustration, I made my out to the patio, away from the noise.“I swear to god, if you hurt her,” I started, but the distorted voice cut me off.“What happens to her is in your hands. Follow my directions and Julia will live. Betray me, and she dies.”The voice then proceeded to give me an address.“Repeat it back to me,” the voice said. I did as I was told.
Andrew’s POVTaking the bracelet from the woman’s hand, my heart started to pound in my chest. It was definitely Julia’s bracelet. It was a charm bracelet that Oliver had given her for her birthday one year, with a little heart charm and a four-leaf clover. She always wore it to special events, even though it was cheap and a bit silly. What was her bracelet doing on the washroom floor? What was happening? Where was Julia? My mind spun as I held the bracelet.“Where did you find this?” I asked, my voice far more demanding and curt than I intended.“I just told you,” the woman said, taken aback by my tone. “On the bathroom floor. It was just sitting there. It’s a lovely bracelet. I’d like to bring it to the lost and found.”“This is my friend’s bracelet,” I told her.And before she could respond, I pushed past her and went into the bathroom myself.“Julia?” I called out. My voice reverberated through the room, echoing off the marble walls. There was no response.Bending down, I checked
Andrew’s POVOut on the patio, the music filtered through the open doors in the background. The night air was warm, but there was a cool breeze that provided a nice respite from the crowded, hot room inside. The moment I saw Charlotte, I’d clenched my fists. I’d had to hold myself back, knowing full well what she’d done to my company office. What she’d done to me.It wasn’t the time or place though. I still didn’t have enough concrete evidence, and with my files secure in the safe, I was willing to be patient. She had a lot of audacity though, showing up here like this. And the fact that she’d gone straight to Julia made a knot form in my stomach. At the bar, I’d run into a very important client of mine, but during the entire conversation, my eyes had been locked on Charlotte and Julia. I was ready to step in at a moment’s notice if Charlotte tried to make any sort of scene. However, to my surprise, they’d had a glass of champagne and then Charlotte had wandered off.Apology my ass.
