Ava Thompson could not believe what she was looking at. She had come to the apartment of Mark Rivera, her boyfriend, to discuss things with him. Hoping that they could come to some sort of an agreement, but what she saw brought her stomach to the floor.

Mark was with his best friend, Bella Cruz in his bedroom. On the bed, they were too close, laughing and kissing.

“When will you tell her about us?” Bella asked.

“Well, soon baby, just give me time, I will abandon her soon hm? Mark said.

Ava froze in the doorway. She did not want to be observed, she did not want to stand up to them. So she slipped out, shut the door, and walked away.

Her telephone was heavy in her hand. She called her best friend Riley Morgan whom she wanted to talk to.

No answer.

She called again. Still nothing.

"Riley, pick up..." Yes, she said; speaking with a trembling voice. She threw the phone on the car seat. There could be nothing to improve this.

Ava started the car and drove. At first, she did not know whether she was heading anywhere, she just had to move, to escape. The city streets were lost in the streetlights. Her thoughts were repeating what she had just watched. Mark. Bella. Their betrayal.

She finally found herself in a club she was used to. The band played loudly, the crowd was dense and the lights flashed everywhere. She had ordered a drink and drank it off. She was scalded down her throat, but it mattered not. It was something she had to burn, she had to experience something other than the betrayal.

One beverage turned into two and then three. Her head turned, and her stomach was turning over at the music. She ran off to the bathroom for a moment, dipped water on her face, and then laughed at herself bitterly. She did not want to think, did not want to be responsible, did not want to care.

After some time, she fell out of her car. Her legs were shaking beneath her, and she got the engine started. She didn't stop at the rules. She only wanted home and she required the walls of her home.

As she drove up in her driveway, the lights in the living room were on. Her parking was fast, and she leaped out of the car and ran into the building.

"Mom? Dad?" she called, her voice tremulous.

No answer.

Then Marcus Hale came out of the corridor. He gazed in amazement at her.

"Ava?" he asked. "You're home early. Is everything okay?"

"Where are Mom and Dad?" Asked her, her speech somewhat indistinct.

They walked out in the evening, said Marcus. "They won't be back tonight. I  only came to make sure that everything is okay. He examined her and saw how wobbly she was. "Ava... are you drunk?"

Ava laughed a little, and very nervously. “I am all right,” she said, but it was weak.

Marcus took a sigh and indicated for her to sit down on the couch. "Sit down. You will fall, unless you want to.

She obeyed. Her legs were weak, and her chest was tight. She put her face in her hands a little. Mark cheated, she at last told.

Marcus frowned. "What? How?"

"I saw him," she whispered. "With Bella. In his bedroom." Her voice cracked. "They were... together."

Marcus rubbed his forehead. "I'm sorry, Ava. That's... that's awful. You didn't deserve that."

“I should not have cared,” she muttered as she leaned back on the couch. “I should not have expected anything out of him.”

“Don’t say so,” Marcus said. “It is not you who is in the wrong. He is. You're not stupid."

Ava threw back her head and shut her eyes. The couch was warm and Marcus was seated next to her, which made her feel calmer and secure than she had anticipated.

"Do you want water?" he asked. "Or something to eat?"

"No," she said, shaking her head. "I don't want to think. I just... don't want to think."

Marcus said nothing. He just sat next to her. She dropped her head a little towards him and was lying against his shoulder. The presence of the man was reassuring in a manner that she had not anticipated.

Ava could not prevent the movement of her body. Her hand fluttered on his arm. He didn't pull away. The contact felt safe. She stared at him, dizzy with the alcohol and the feelings that were going through her.

"I... I do not understand why I am like that, you see," she said in a kind of whisper.

"You're upset," Marcus said. "It's okay to feel that way."

Her lips were against his shoulder as an accident, almost as though they were seeking more comfort. He froze for a second. "Ava..." he whispered.

She leaned into him slightly. Her hand tightened on his arm. She kissed him unconsciously.

It started small. Tentative. Then deeper. Marcus kissed her back, hesitantly at first and then completely as she failed to stop.

One thing led to another. Clothes came off. Touches, whispers, and kisses had filled the room. Time didn't exist. It did not matter whether it was the world outside the house, the betrayal, or the alcohol.

At the moment of its termination, Ava was lying on the bed with her head whirling. She was not sure of the time they had been together. She did not think of anything but warmth next to her and the empty feeling as he rose to leave.

Hours later, she woke up alone.

Her head throbbed. Her mouth was dry. Her heart raced. The curtains were knotted about her knees.

She remembered.

Everything.

Her eyes widened. She had slept with the stepbrother of her father.

Panic rose in her chest. She scrambled out of bed and took her clothes. She hastened into rapid dress and shook and clasped her hands over her face.

Marcus wasn't there.

She was standing in the bedroom, and breathing rapidly. The club, the drinks, the betrayal, the comfort, the kiss, the touches, her mind played all this over and over again.

Her stomach turned. Her body felt heavy.

"What did I do?" she whispered to herself.

  • Too Young To Want Him   The Meeting Neither of Them Expected

Ava stood outside Lydia’s hospital room, her fingers tightly gripping the strap of her bag as her heartbeat echoed loudly in her ears. The hallway felt unusually quiet, yet her thoughts were anything but calm. She had imagined this moment many times during the past few days, but now that she was truly here, fear slowly crept into her chest. She wondered if coming back had been a mistake.Riley stood beside her and gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. “You don’t have to rush,” she said softly. “She’s been waiting, but she’ll understand if you need a minute.”Ava swallowed hard and nodded, though her eyes remained fixed on the closed door. “I’m just… nervous,” she admitted quietly. “I don’t know how she’ll look at me.”Riley smiled gently. “She looks at you the same way she always did.”Ava took a slow breath, trying to calm herself before finally lifting her hand and knocking lightly on the door.A small voice came from inside. “Come in.”The sound of Lydia’s voice made Ava’s chest tigh

  • Too Young To Want Him   A Call She Never Expected

Lydia waited until Marcus left the hospital room to get in touch with the doctor and then she reached slowly towards the phone which was lying on the bedside table. Her heart was racing, but this time it was not sickness that made it race. She understood that her father had good intentions, but she also understood that adults wait too long and say that it is impossible to correct something. She was not willing to wait any longer. She then opened the phone carefully and browsed through all the contacts until she spotted the name that she wanted.Riley.Ava's best friend.Lydia paused for a moment and questioned herself whether she was doing the right thing, but the recollection of the sweet smile of Ava urged her on. Ava had always been present when Lydia needed somebody to comfort her, and now it was her time to make a call. She pressed the call button. Two rings sounded out before Riley picked up the phone. "Hello?"Lydia said, me... me... me... Auntie Riley.Surprise was instantaneo

  • Too Young To Want Him   Unasked Questions

The nurse had just walked out of the hospital room, leaving it unusually quiet. Marcus remained close to the door, still holding his phone very tightly in his hand, and Lydia stared at him, her eyes no longer wet with innocence but with bewilderment and pain. The reality that she had just received could not find a peaceful dwelling in her heart. However, Lydia broke the silence and said, very slowly, “Daddy, I do not understand something.”Marcus looked at her, and he was already aware that this discussion was not going to be light. "What is it, sweetheart?"Lydia sat more erectly on the bed, and her small fingers grasped the blanket. Why did Ava not stay? Why not stay?... if Ava saved me... Why didn't somebody tell her how important she was?Marcus opened his mouth, and he had no words now. The burden of guilt fell on him once more."She thought..." Then he started slowly, then paused."She thought what?" Lydia asked firmly.” Did she think that we did not love her?”Marcus turned his

  • Too Young To Want Him   The Truth That Changed Everything

The morning sunlight gradually lit up the hospital room of Lydia and threw its soft glow over the bed, where she sat silently leafing through the picture book. The machines near her started beeping, but no longer with a frightening sound, but calm and steady as her breathing was now. This was the first time in weeks that she managed to sit up without any assistance, but something still did not feel right.Again, she glanced toward the door.Daddy, Lydia said when Marcus walked into the room holding a little bag of fruits.Marcus forced a gentle smile. "Good morning, princess. How are you feeling today?"“Yes, better, I feel better now that I saw you,” she thought, observing him. “I have a doctor who said I am healing fast.”Marcus nodded, but weariness was still on his face. He had slept, indeed, a little before Ava had gone out of the house. Each silent moment brought to his memory that she was gone.“It is good news,” he said, and put the fruits on the table. "You're very brave."Ly

  • Too Young To Want Him   The Silence She Left Behind

It was so awkward when Ava went home.Marcus was sitting in the living room all alone, looking at the vacant space in front of the staircase where she had partially occupied herself just a few hours ago with her suitcase in her hand. The silence was so much against his chest that he could hardly breathe in his usual fashion. Each room of the house brought back the memory of her being there, and the knowledge that she was really gone was sinking deeper with each minute. He bent his head, his elbows on his knees, and rubbed his face wearily."What have I done..." he muttered under his breath. The image re-enacted itself in his head. Ava cries, her voice trembling as she attempts to justify herself, and his own vituperation does not cut her like a knife.Leave.It was something he had not meant. And now the word rang round in his head.Marcus rose to his feet and walked towards the kitchen, hoping that he would lose his thoughts in distraction, but as he opened the refrigerator he stoppe

  • Too Young To Want Him   Nowhere to Belong

That taxi arrived at the door of the house of Daniel at an early morning light was just coming up. Ava sat back and gazed through the window without saying a word; it seemed to her she no longer knew where she was. Her eyes were red with crying, which now did not produce any tears, as she was quite empty inside.Daniel was out as fast as he could see the car."Ava!" he called, and ran hastily up to her with all the signs of a concerned face. I have been calling you all night. What happened?"The driver unlocked the trunk, and Daniel snatched her suitcase before she managed to do it at all.Slowly, Ava drew out her steps, weak and fatigued.I am all right, I said in a low voice, but I did not sound all right.Daniel frowned immediately. "You don't look fine. Did Marcus do something? Did you two fight again?"Ava made a little smile that did not reach her eyes. "It's over, Daniel."He froze. "What do you mean... over?"He told me to go away, she answered. The face of Daniel flushed with

  • Too Young To Want Him   A Dangerous Appointment

The following morning, Ava woke up with a tight feeling in her chest. Nothing was going on in the house, and sunlight peered through the curtains as though it did not wish to disturb her thoughts. A long time, the stillness of her position made her believe she was dead; and then one hand fell upon h

  • Too Young To Want Him   Unasked Questions

It was some time after the house had become still that Ava sat on the edge of the bed. Marcus had long ago gone to sleep, or at least she believed he had. She was alone, the hall was dark, yet her thoughts could not repose. She was slowly opening her laptop, as if the noise would wake someone. The

  • Too Young To Want Him   Kept at a Distance

The voice of Elena was smooth and calm, except that something sharp underlined it, and Ava paused to walk."No," Elena said firmly. "You are not going to see Lydia."Ava stood paralysed in the hospital room hall. She had been practising what she had to say all morning and had been holding the words

  • Too Young To Want Him   Words She Wasn’t Meant to Hear

Lydia had been in her stay with Elena for three days, and Marcus had not called upon her once. Yeah, she lied that she was with her friend. Elena was watching her daughter as she walked softly about the guest room, her face pale, and her eyes deep, and it was breaking her heart in such a way that s
