Rose’s POV I didn’t wait to find out if they saw me. The second I heard, “Who’s there?” in Luther’s voice, I slipped behind the waste bin and vanished into the alley’s shadows. My heart was pounding in my ears as I bolted down the narrow path, lungs burning, panic rising. Luther, Vicenzo. They weren’t supposed to be in the same room, let alone shaking hands in the shadows like allies. And if Luther didn’t know Vicenzo was my ex, the man who once pointed a gun at my face then I was carrying a secret that could destroy everything between us. I barely made it home before the breakdown hit. I kicked off my heels, locked the door, and slid to the floor. My stomach was twisted in knots. My thoughts were everywhere. Luther had made me feel safe. Desired. Seen. But what if it was all part of a game? What if I was just a pawn between two monsters? He showed up later that night, One knock on the door, and I already knew it was him. I opened it, breath tight in my chest. Luther stood there, calm, collected, but his eyes were colder than usual. His jaw was tense. "Are you okay?" he asked softly. “Do I look okay?” I stepped aside to let him in. My voice was sharper than I meant it to be, but I didn’t care. He walked in slowly, like he was studying me. “You weren’t answering your phone.” “I’ve been busy,” I muttered. “Thinking.” He paused. “About what?” “You tell me.” I turned to face him. “What kind of business makes a man disappear from a date without a word?” “Business I didn’t plan to explain to you.” He said with an attitude I didn’t seem to understand. “Because you didn’t expect me to follow you.” His eyes narrowed. “You did?” “You left me on our first date , the first you should have done would have been to apologize but instead you are acting like you did nothing” I said as I pressed further. “I saw you,” I said coldly. “At the club. Talking to him.” He raised an eyebrow, curious. “Who?” “The man in the blue mask.” Luther tensed just slightly but he hid it well. “That’s not something you needed to see.” “No? Then what did you want me to see, Luther? The way you kissed me like I meant something, only to meet with a man I—” I stopped myself. Almost slipped. “Go on,” he said slowly. I shook my head. “Forget it.” He stepped closer. “Rose, what aren’t you telling me?” I swallowed hard. “I could ask you the same thing.” “You first.” I smiled bitterly. “No. I’m tired of being the open book. Your turn.” We stood there in silence, tension thick in the air. Then he said, “He’s not a friend. That’s all you need to know.” “But you were smiling. Shaking hands.” “Sometimes, the devil wears a smile to keep his enemies close.” “Then what does he wear around me?” Luther’s expression darkened. “You’re not my enemy.” “Then stop treating me like one.” He didn’t reply. Instead, he walked to the window, stared out for a long second, and then said, “I have enemies, Rose. People you can’t even imagine. You’re safer knowing less.” “I’m not afraid of danger.” “No,” he said, turning toward me. “But I’m afraid of losing control when it comes to you.” My breath caught. His hands were on me before I could blink—gripping my waist, lips crashing against mine, wild and raw. There was no space between us, only heat and tension and the ache of too many words left unsaid. He seemed to be kissing my anger away, I had to stop him I said as I tried my best to fight the urge against him but instead my knees weakened, I gathered up the courage as I stopped him immediately. Stop!!!!!!!! I said as he came to a halt immediately, I really do not understand you are keeping things to yourself but I think I understand, besides we haven’t been together for long. “Vicenzo conti the man who you shook hands with is my ex !”,I blurted out as Luther Lombardi eyes grew wide open. “Wait what !” He said looking at me confused, and just immediately his eyes got a bit cold. “What happened between the both of you?” He asked dryly. “We broke up, he cheated on me” I said purposely omitting his mother’s part as I was warned earlier. “Mmmhhh” he said “but that in the past now “, why do you seem to get all so worked up, he added. Then I looked at him unsure of what to say. “Nothing, was just so annoying seeing the two of you shaking hands” I said while he saw his eye boring into me from my head to toe. “Rose” he said while coming closer towards me, you seemed so vent up right now , what happened, he asked as my head was turning and churning right now. “Should I tell him, should I not tell him” I thought about it as my head swayed and swayed unsure of what to do. “He wants me back!!” I blurted out, perhaps I could tell him about the threats. “And he is threatening me to have me back, he was at my apartment the other day with a gun” I said out to him as he looked at me calmly. “Rose “ he said calmly as he took his steps closer landing towards me his eyes meeting mine not looking away. “Do you know who Vicenzo conti is “ he said while I looked at him startled wondering why won’t I know who he is. “He is a known business man” I said as he smirked, that evil smirk people usually had on their faces. “You know nothing about Vicenzo “ he said as his voice remained calm, “What do you mea…….” And before I could finish the statement he cut me in. “Do you know who I am?????” He asked again.

  • Torn between mafias    Information

David’s POVThe sound of his footsteps announced him before the door creaked open. My older brother—Vicenzo—stood there, shoulders squared, jaw tight, eyes carrying that restless fire that never seemed to die.“I’m ready,” he said. The words dropped like lead between us.I leaned back in my chair, crossing one leg over the other as if he hadn’t just come demanding truths. My room smelled faintly of tobacco and leather-bound books, my haven, my retreat from his chaos. I let the silence stretch, watching his impatience grow like smoke choking a fire.“Ready?” I echoed at last, a soft smile tugging at my lips. “Ready for what, brother?”He stepped closer, the veins in his neck straining. “I’m ready to know who has the shipment.”Ah. So that was it. His pride had finally bent far enough to seek my help. I folded my hands over my knee, enjoying the moment.“And if I tell you?” I asked lazily. “What then? You’ll rush out there, guns blazing, and end up bleeding for cargo that might already

  • Torn between mafias    Ready

Vicenzo’s POVThe man trembled on his knees, blood still dripping from the half-bandaged wound on his side. His breathing was ragged, but his eyes held a kind of loyalty I hadn’t seen in a while—not the empty loyalty bought with fear, but the kind born of desperation and belonging.“Get him cleaned up,” I said after a long silence, my voice sharp enough that the guards jumped at the order. “He was one of our best men before all this. I don’t want him rotting away like trash. See that he eats. He’ll talk better with strength in his body.”The man looked up at me, surprise flashing across his battered face. “Thank you, Boss,” he whispered, as though those words cost him his last breath.I gave him a curt nod, then added, “And when he’s patched up, bring him to me. Alone. I’ll hear everything.”He was dragged out, and I stood in the silence again, my chest rising and falling with the rage that burned steadily. My mother watched me, swirling the wine in her glass.“You’re being merciful,”

  • Torn between mafias    Confusion

Vicenzo’s POVAfter David left, silence stretched in the room. I leaned back against the desk, my arms folded, and my mother stood across from me, her glass of wine in hand. For a long moment, we just stared at each other. She was the first to break it.“Why is he back?” Alessia’s tone was flat, but beneath it lay the cold steel I knew too well.I rubbed at my jaw. “He claims he has information to exchange for money.”Her laugh was sharp, dry. “Information? And here I thought he wanted nothing to do with our world. He despised our money.”“He said it wasn’t the dirty money he wanted,” I replied, repeating David’s exact words with a bitter taste in my mouth. “He says he only has something to sell. Not to take.”I could see the twist of her mouth, the way her expression soured as though even David’s name was rot. Truth be told, I didn’t like him either. He opposed everything we did, always standing higher than us in his self-righteousness. And somewhere deep down, I knew he secretly enj

  • Torn between mafias    Stubborn son

Alessia’s POVThe murmur of voices drifted faintly down the hallway, threading its way through the heavy silence of the house. I had been pouring myself a glass of wine in the sitting room, but the sound made me pause. Vicenzo’s tone was distinct—deep, controlled, carrying that casual arrogance that came so naturally to him. Yet there was another voice, one that stirred something sharper inside me.I moved quietly, my heels clicking against the marble with deliberate precision. As I drew closer to the study, the voices grew clearer. And then, as if fate itself had turned the knife deeper, I recognized it.David.My eldest. The son who had turned his back on me, on this family, on everything that bound us together. The son who thought himself above the dirt that fed us, above the blood that kept us alive. My lips pressed into a thin line as an old ache, half-buried beneath years of bitterness, surfaced.I opened the door. There he was. My long-lost boy. Not bent to my will the way Vice

  • Torn between mafias    Price of blood

Vicenzo’s POVThe air in the study was heavy with the scent of Cuban cigars and aged leather, the kind of atmosphere that spoke of power, secrets, and men who never slept peacefully. I leaned back in my chair, fingers tapping against the polished mahogany desk as my eyes bored into David, my younger brother, who stood opposite me like a restless shadow. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his eyes refusing to meet mine, and already I knew what he was here for. David had never learned to look me in the eye when he wanted something. He was ashamed of needing me, but not enough to stay away.“So,” I said, my voice cutting through the silence, low and laced with disdain, “you finally come to me after months of pretending you want nothing to do with my business, my life, my empire. Yet here you are… standing in front of me, hands itching for the very thing you claim you despise. Money.”David’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t answer immediately. I almost laughed at the irony. He

  • Torn between mafias    Surprise surprise

Vicenzo POVI paced across the marble floor of my office, the sound of my shoes ricocheting against the silence. The air was thick with smoke from the half-burnt cigarette between my fingers, but it did nothing to calm me. My chest felt tight, like invisible hands were squeezing me.“Where the hell is my shipment?” I muttered under my breath, slamming my palm against the edge of the desk. This wasn’t just a box of weapons or a container of product. This shipment was supposed to seal a deal with the Russians—a deal that bought me leverage, bought me time, bought me my reputation. Without it, I looked weak. And weakness in this business? It’s a death sentence.I’d already sent my men combing through the ports, calling every contact, squeezing every informant. Nothing. Silence. Like the sea had swallowed it whole. My mind raced. Could Luther have intercepted it? That bastard Lombardi always lurked in the shadows, waiting for a chance to humiliate me. Or maybe it was one of the cartel s
