Roman’s eyes were deep and unfathomable as he approached Rose.“Breathe, little butterfly,” he let out, as he brought forward a paper bag to her face, which she took gladly. “Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.”Rose did as she was told, desperately attempting to calm down. And with his help, his ever soothing presence, and his branding touch on her back, she somehow managed to stop hyperventilating.“That’s it. Good girl.”His praise had the knack to make her feel somewhat cherished. Usually, her father was the only one who helped her through her panic attacks. Her mother never bothered, eying her with something akin to disdain. And heavens knew that she only developed such severe anxiety because of her. As a teenager, she had once found her passed out on the couch, her nose bleeding without any sign of struggle in the house… She hadn’t understood then. She only realized the enormity of what had almost happened a few years after. Her mother had become a junkie, and had almost overdosed.W
“Did you hear?” Daniel asked in a bewildered tone of voice, from where he was sitting next to Rose, in the changing rooms, as they finally caught their breaths after a tumultuous shift. She had already changed into her day clothes. Daniel, on the other hand, was of those nurses who didn’t bother and actually went home in scrubs.“Hear what?” She raised an eyebrow at him.“There was a short-circuit at La Duchesse, and it caught fire. It was all over the news. Damages are estimated at over 500.000$,” he told her, eyes wide, sounding totally baffled.“Say what?” Rose was flabbergasted to say the least… though not for the same reason as Daniel.“I only went to that place once,” he nodded in earnest. “It was damn expensive but the experience was worth it.”Rose’s breath caught in her throat. She, too, had gone to La Duchesse once, and it was only a few days ago.Coincidence? Absolutely not!She couldn’t think straight. And while she didn’t want to think the worst of Roman, this felt like a
“I didn’t know you had an allergy to cats,” Rose let out softly, the moment she and Roman got back to the car.“I am a dog person,” he replied without any moment’s hesitation. She couldn’t help but giggle.“I can totally see you with a lab,” she soon commented.“I actually once had a German shepherd,” he retorted easily. “He was my companion for the longest time.”“I see,” she offered him a small smile. There was something disturbingly painful about the way he said that. As if merely thinking about his dog made him uncomfortable… And yet, he hadn’t thought twice about telling her. He had opened up to her without question.Rose could almost taste the progress they were making on her tongue. It was sweet and refreshing at the same time. Trust was building slowly but surely between them, and their chemistry seemed to no longer be the only thing binding them together.Heavens, it was also even scarier than anything she had ever experienced. She was a nurse, and helping people was her call
Breakfast was pleasant. Roman barely talked, but he listened to Rose. It showed in the narrowing of his eyes at times, but also in his not too frequent hums.“What’s your plan after breakfast?” He asked in his usual deep sensual voice.“I need to drop by the vet clinic,” she smiled at him. “I miss my little Mey.”“I see,” he nodded at her.Rose was partly surprised by the fact that he actually kept his hands to himself, even though he had booked La Duchesse for them. She ended up blurting out her concerns awkwardly, “Don’t you like the dress?”“I picked it myself,” his faint frown was the only indication of his confusion.“Then how come…” she trailed off, blushing to her utter and complete mortification. Why was she asking him this? Was she even ready for his answer?“I am not taking you against this table?” He finished for her, a smirk playing on his lips. She blushed even more furiously if that was even possible.“I… that’s not…” she stammered, at a lost for words, refusing to admit
Roman had trouble clearing his mind of Rose’s innocent and yet expectant look, as she asked him how she looked, how she smelled, even as he looked out the window of the car.He didn’t hesitate to tell her that he might just ravage her at La Duchesse, even though he ached to take her in the car again. He had promised her breakfast, and he was going to honor his promise. He was then mildly taken aback as she asked him why he called her butterfly.“Can’t I?” He retorted, a smirk stretching his lips, as he turned to look at her.“That was not the question,” she pouted at him. Those plump red lips were inviting him, and making it harder and harder to keep a cool head on his shoulders.“You’re too smart for your own good,” he chuckled.“And you’re deflecting, Roman,” she quipped, her lips pursed, as she squinted her eyes a little.“Touche,” he agreed with a nod. Then, looking her square in the eyes, he let out, “the first time I met you, I thought you were like a bee. The busiest bee in tha
Rose realized that they actually hadn’t stopped at La Duchesse. They were at a spa — a very exclusive spa she had only ever dreamt of — and Roman tilted his head, silently telling her to go in.She knew she didn’t look like she could afford the spa either, and she worried her bottom lip for a brief moment there.“I… I don’t think…” she began to protest, only for her concerns to be dismissed.Roman walked ahead of her, and she found herself following him in haste, as if afraid to be left behind… Admittedly, she had yet to get a taste of his temper. And as she limped forward, she refused to let this day be the day she did.Entering the luxurious place, the first thing that came to her attention was that there was no one around, save for the staff. Rose frowned ever so slightly, wondering for a split-second if she had read wrong. But then again, there was only one spa called La Beauté around here, and this was it.“Welcome, Mr Bianchi,” one of the women let out, a soft smile on her face.
