I worried if dad was lucid from all these years of being alone and in the wild and through the trauma but the truly horrifying part was… he did not look lucid. He appeared to be completely sane.

“Come with me.” he grabbed my hand, practically dragging me with himself, “now that you are finally here, I can finish the damn ritual. It has been so many years. I had to sacrifice so much for it.”

“What ritual?” I asked blankly. My mind was not even processing what was happening.

“Well, you know your mom and I were very happy together, right?” he turned his head, a soft smile gracing his lips. “I loved her and I loved you too. But it was not enough. I was the alpha of just a small pack. I was powerful, but not powerful enough. I kept telling your mother that I needed to breach other territories, fight wars to win others but your mother was a big softie. Didn’t want people to die. So I had to find something else for help.”
