ADELINA'S POV
The happiest day of a woman's life was meant to be the day she gets married to the love of her life and I thought it was true. I had never felt this genuinely happy in my life before, despite all the resistance of us being from rival mobs. Finally, I was getting married to Viktor, the Mafia boss of a rival Russian mob today. Although my marriage was not purely based on love, the main goal was to join two of the biggest Mafia underground associations. My fiance, Viktor, owned one of the richest and most dangerous Russian mobs; my father agreed to this marriage to seek his protection as our group, despite its large size, is nothing compared to Viktor's association. The soft organ melody echoed through the large sculptured walls of the old cathedral to the outside, it was loud enough to reach the environs. Stepping down from the car I made my way towards the large doors of the ancient cathedral. The doors swung open, and everyone's eyes were drawn to me, the beautiful bride. "May I?" Father approached me at the door to take me to the altar. "Of course father." I chimed at him with the brightest smile ever. Dad took his time to look at me, his eyes welling with tears that his little princess was finally getting married. "You look beautiful, Adelina." He said with a heavy voice, trying to hold back his tears. I hooked my hand with his arm and then took a deep breath. "Thank you, Papa." 'It's finally time, Adelina; you can do this.' I chanted encouraging words in my mind to control my nervousness. I gripped the bouquet of tulips and lilacs, which were my favourite flowers, and cold sweats formed around my fist. Dad's presence was reassuring. Everyone got on their feet to watch me proceed down the aisle, smiles brimming on their faces. Finally, my eyes gazed towards the altar, and there he was, standing tall and handsome as always. Our eyes met, and my heart skipped a beat. I clutched Father's arm, and Father gave an encouraging smile, sensing my nervousness. The bridal procession started as I made my way towards the altar; Viktor's eyes were on me the entire time, smiling brightly; his charming smile blurred away every other person I walked past towards the altar. The song changed, and every step I took forward felt heavy, telling me that this was a journey that would change my life for good. Finally, we arrived at the front; Dad released my arm and placed a soft kiss on my forehead before he made his way to Mother's side, who was crying her eyes out. Lorenzo, my elder brother and the family heir, was also with them; he gave me an encouraging smile. My heartfelt fluffy, seeing how my entire family was here for me. I inhaled a sharp breath, then turned towards Viktor, my groom, entranced by his sapphire eyes. "You look gorgeous," Viktor whispered into my ear immediately after I accepted his hand. A faint red blush made its way to my face. "Thank you. You are also handsome." I said my voice barely above a whisper. "I hope you are ready," Viktor whispered sensing my trembling hands. With the brightest smile I could pull off, my voice chirped. "I was born ready." Hand to hand we climbed the cathedral altar to meet the priest. The priest gave us a soft smile; then the music stopped; everyone got down on their seats except us. I turn to face Viktor face to face stretching my neck a bit because of his towering height and large frame. He was very handsome; my cheeks burned more, knowing he was mine. "Dear blessed beloved, we are here to witness the holy matrimony of our daughter Marino Adelina and our son Romanov Viktor...." The priest started the solemnization, the words faded in my ears, and all my attention was drawn to the smile on Viktor's face. My lips curved into a more beautiful smile. "Is there anyone here who has a reason why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony? Speak now or forever hold your peace." The priest asks. Viktor's blue eyes scanned the crowd that turned pin-drop silent; even if there was anyone who had something against my marriage, they would dare not speak, knowing how dangerous Viktor was. A breath of relief left my lips, seeing no one was crazy enough to ruin the wedding. Not only was it important to me but also to all the loyal members of Marino's mob. "Romanov Viktor, do you take Marino Adelina as your wife before God and man to forever join together for better or worse till your last days?" The priest asks Viktor, and for a slight second, complex emotions run across his blue eyes like he is hesitant. My heart started to beat fast, and my gut tightened, scared he would say no. Viktor slowly opened his mouth, and my anxiety took over, but the look disappeared, and he said two words more beautiful than I Love you. "I do." My smile widened with every fear that tortured me earlier being thrown out of the window. Viktor was also madly in love with me. That was the reason he did his best for this marriage to happen. The priest then turned towards my direction and repeated the same words. "Marino Adelina, do you take Romanov Viktor as your husband before God and man, for better or worse, until death do you part?" Grinning ear to ear I answered, "I do." Then a beautiful smile graced Viktor's lips with the crowd cheering us. We were finally married, and after that, we exchanged rings. The deal was done. “You may now kiss the bride.” Viktor's arm wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me closer; our lips met, sending sparks through my spine. Ignoring the crowd that was staring at us, he hungrily devoured my lips; desire coursed through my veins, making me crave more. When he parted away, my doe eyes looked at him hungrily because I wanted more, but this was not the place. God this was so embarrassing that I boldly kissed him like a starved beast in front of a crowd like this. My eyes went back to the audience, and my face turned scarlet. My family was now under Viktor's mob and I was his wife. Everyone got on their feet to clap and cheer for us. Viktor leaned towards me and whispered in a very low tone. "It is beautiful. Isn't it? This is just like the wedding you envision." His deep baritone drawled. My brows furrowed, wondering what he was talking about. I whipped my head to look back at him, and my smile fell when I saw his cold eyes, making it seem like the smile he had on his face earlier was just an illusion. "What do you mean Viktor? We finally got married and our groups are united." My voice shook with my grip on the flowers tightening till my knuckles turned white. My gut was telling me something about this was off; the wedding happened so smoothly that it felt like an illusion. "Yes, we are married, and the deal is done, meaning there is no need to keep up the act my goal has been achieved. You have no use for me anymore." All the blood from my face drained as a fright I had never felt before wrecked my gut. What does he mean? Dad sensed something was off with the way we were communicating and he had deep frown lines on his forehead. From the corners of my eyes, I could see his confused look as he jolted towards us. As if answering my question, everything happened so fast that it felt like a nightmare I could not keep up with. Viktor pulled out a gun and fired a bullet, silencing the entire hall. A scream echoed from my side. My eyes were drawn to the chaos, my knees immediately went weak. I fell to the ground when the image of my father's limp body on the floor came into my sight with my mother screaming and crying. Everything around me was grey, with every colour draining from my face. "Papa!!!!!" The most heartbreaking scream left my lips as my entire body trembled.ADELINA'S POV How was that possible? What was going on? My brain couldn't process everything properly; a part of me didn't want to believe it, but I watched it; every single detail was exactly how I remembered. "Isn't that your presentation?" Petra gasped, her face twisting up in anger. She had helped me work on it so she had an idea what it was about. I didn't answer her but she quickly got a gist of it. Petra jolted on her feet, "that scheming bitch." She cursed, her hands clutched into a tight fist. I didn't need a genius to know that Kimberly had deliberately embarrassed me in front of everyone including Mikhail. I understood why. She did it because of Asher. I was so tired and frustrated about everything. There was no way I could get back at her, she came from an elite family and must have used her connections to tamper with my project. "Are you going to just sit here and let that bitch steal your show?" Petra asked me, her voice was tired and frustrated. Her eyes g
ADELINA'S POV The spotlight shone on me, "You can do this!!" I heard Petra scream from the exit, cheering me; Asher stood there also watching. The auditorium was packed to the brim, just like how Venessa described. They were right I can do this, "THE NEXT PARTICIPANT FROM THE FINAL YEAR, ADELINA MARINO." The officiator announced, from the sound system. There was a soft round of applause welcoming me on stage. "Come on Adelina, blow their minds." I heard Mr Simon urge me from the earbuds I had in my ear. I adjusted the mic pinned on my collar then my mouth parted "Good morning, distinguished guests and honourable...." My voice trailed as I started the address; I felt the tension oozing off as I spoke with confidence. After introducing myself and greeting the audience, I moved on to introduce my topic, but the words got lost from my mouth for a bit; a group that seemed pretty important was entering the auditorium unceremoniously. It was someone pretty powerf
ADELINA'S POV Asher had insisted on reporting to the police; I rejected the idea, knowing it would only reveal my ties with Grand Ale's nightclub. I didn't want that to ever resurface; it was a memory that I rather forget. I kept on tossing in my sleep, I could not sleep because of the feeling of being watched. Someone was watching me, it was part of my anxiety for a while now. It felt like someone was close and was about to touch me. My eyes shot open, sweat dripping off my skin; I quickly sat up, my eyes darting around the dark room. The bed lamp clicked on, its dim lights illuminating the room. Some corners were dark, and there didn't seem to be anyone there, but I still asked. "Is anyone there?" My voice was barely a whisper. My heart thudded against my chest so hard that every other sound faded. Including fast breathing, I placed my arm on my chest, which was rising rapidly. "Relax, Adel, there is no one here," I told myself but the words were not even
ADELINA'S POV Mikhail left me in a mess as I could not understand why my body reacted the way it did. After leaving the company building, I took a short walk to the nearest bus stop to save on transportation costs. The entire ride, a soft smile hung on my lips and my cheeks as I ran the entire situation in my mind. I didn't know when a giggle left my lips. Something was definitely wrong with my head and it was his fault. I should not be acting like a love-struck teenager when I had a lot going on in my life, but it wasn't that easy to forget how gentle his touch felt. I wondered if we ever did it, would he be gentle or rip me apart? For crying out loud, why were my thoughts straying? There was something about him I could not understand from the day I saw him after running from the party. He was dangerous, he was arrogant, and he never hid that part, yet there was something around him that made me feel safe. I didn't understand why, but his cologne and signatur
ADELINA'S POV Why! Why! Why! I almost screamed out. Why do I always find myself in the most embarrassing situations with Mikhail? My brain froze for a moment; I could feel him right under my panties; why didn't I wear trousers today? "Shit!! I am sorry. I didn't mean any of this, " I shrieked, jumping off him and then grabbing my phone that was still on the floor. What just happened now?! In a state of panic, I pressed the elevator button to exit immediately, unable to face the embarrassment. My mind just wanted to flee. The doors immediately slid open on a random floor; before I could sprint off, a large arm circled my waist, pulling me backwards. Mikhail reached out for the elevator button to close the door immediately. I could catch a glimpse of others on the floor, in absolute shock and confusion. I was slammed against the elevator wall, Mikhail's height towering above me as he caged me in between his arms. "Why do you love to run ginger?" He asked me. Ther
ADELINA'S POV Genesis, I could not believe my eyes as I stared at the company building. How was Petra able to get connections into Genesis? It was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, companies. To get an internship here was everyone's dream, yet Petra could pull strings with just some calls. It must be great having connections. I clutched my bag as I made my way into the company building. The inside was more breathtaking than the outside. It was beyond words to describe. "Welcome to Genesis, how can I help you today?" The receptionist welcomed me with a bright smile as soon as I approached the counter. She has a friendly demeanour to match her professionalism. "I am Adelina Marino and I am meant to have an interview by 12 for an internship position," I informed her; she narrowed her eyes at me, taking a moment to gauge my appearance before turning her attention to her desktop. I take back my earlier statement about her being professional. Her fingers rapid
ADELINA'S POV After giving it some thought I decided to go with the flow as Petra suggested. It won't take much effort to get the recommendation for the scholarship grant to apply. The weekend went by quickly and it was Monday. The second week of the semester and the day Adelina Marino was going to make her grand appearance at the faculty to remind everyone that I was still alive. I stood in front of the mirror admiring my outfit, and girl! Petra had better taste than I ever did. It was a dress which was just perfect, it was blue in colour, my favourite colour that was a perfect fit. It was not too revealing, nor was it too boring; it was just perfect. There was a light knock on the door followed by Petra's voice. "Aren't you done? I am about to leave. Is either you coming out now or you might have to walk down to the bus stop." She reminded me. "Coming. I am already done." I raised my voice a bit for her to hear me. There was no way I was going to walk d
MIKHAIL'S POV As expected Nathan eventually found a flimsy excuse to leave on the pretense of an important call to ditch me and Jessica. He was really intent on setting us up. Jessica must have complained about me giving her cold shoulders. "Your people are really doing a great job here," Nathan mentioned before his phone rang. He faked being distressed, his brows pulling together but I could read through his poor acting skills. He checked his phone and then glanced at us. "I have to pick this. It's important; how about you and Jessica hang out while I handle this." He said, before I could mention a thing he was gone, probably scared I would refuse. He has to be kidding me if he thinks that this would work on me. "So it was a date with your girlfriend all along." Casper just had to chirp his annoying voice in my mind. He had a straight face with his hand tucked in his pocket while acting busy like he didn't care what was going on around him. No one could guess
MIKHAIL'S POV This morning, the air felt a bit more refreshing than usual. This was why I loved staying at the mountainside, far from the chaos in the city. It also grants me enough privacy from prying eyes. "I thought you had someone keeping an eye on her while I was gone," I asked Casper, my gaze locked on the window, watching the pedestrians as we drove by, trying to get my mind to relax a bit. The anger was yet to reside and my wolf was ignoring me now. He was angrier. "We did but our focus was on Viktor as you instructed. No one expected her aunt to sell her for her selfish reasons." Casper replied, his eyes on the road, trying his best to concentrate. He was oddly too observant today afraid of how I handling the fact my mate spent close to two weeks among sex traffickers "Viktor has been quiet lately. The ignorant girl is just unlucky." I clicked my tongue glancing away from the window. "I will increase the level of security. Do you want me to report dai
