ADELINA'S POV
I was completely blown out of my mind when I heard him. Mikhail Romanov was a mystery to me. A seasoned businessman who suddenly popped out of nowhere and stormed the entire business world. There was very little about him online but there were rumours of how ruthless he was when taking out his competition and how much underground connection he has. When I said I was ready to do anything in my mind, the most degrading thing that crossed my mind was to be his servant at his mercy, but it never crossed my mind he would tell me to strip in a public event. I bit my lower lip in between my teeth, not only because of how nervous I felt in his presence but also thanks to the Bullet wound in my arm. "You must be joking, that can't be a request." I blurted. Thinking he would laugh out, saying it was a joke, but he didn't budge one bit. He stood tall with his hand in his pocket and his eyes keenly observing me. His lips parted, and my heartbeat dropped at his next statement. "Do I look like I am joking?" He arched his brow at me. "Big words and I thought you were ready to do whatever it takes." He scoffed at me then his eyes trailed away. My hands clenched until my fist turned white instigated by his words. "The request is absurd. I can't strip in public." I gritted my teeth at him. He didn't seem bothered by my reasoning; without a doubt, we were the centre of attention. A bloody bride and the biggest business tycoon. My veil was still attached to my hair. "It is a simple request or will you prefer if I say kill someone here." He suggested then beckoned on someone I think was part of his security. The tall guy approached us and pulled out a slick pistol. I stared at the gun, stunned at the nerves he had to request I murder in the open air. "You have two options: either you strip, or you use this gun and shoot that lady in the head." He pointed out a particular lady I recognized to be a social elite. "If you can't choose either then get the hell out my way." His eyes darkened, annoyed by my presence. He was, as they said, a devil. How could he ask me to strip in a public place? I was out of options. It was either I lost my pride as a woman, or I got convicted of murder. He was not scared of openly saying things like this because he was so rich that even the government didn't have a hold on him; instead, it was the other way around. "Fine, I will do it." I barely whispered but I think he heard me. My throat went dry and I nervously gulped down. His eyes didn't leave me even for a second. I slowly reached for the threads at the back of my dress because it was a corset dress fastened with thread. I slowly loosened the knot and started to undo the lace. Viktor might be a devil but Mikhail was a sadist. He had an evil grin amused at my actions. I started to doubt if approaching him was the right choice. It was not too late to turn back, Viktor was probably raking through the streets looking for me now. I knew the type of person he was; Viktor was never going to leave a single member of the Marino family to roam free. A potential threat that could come after him. What did I do to be in this situation? All I wanted was to get married to the man I loved. After I was done with the thread, my eyes locked with Mikhail's eyes. His Adam's apple gobbled. My hands reached out for the shoulder of the dress to pull it down. My eyes pressed together as this would be the most embarrassing and degrading moment of my life. The doors burst open, and everyone's eyes were drawn to the entrance, saving me at the nick of time. A bunch of men dressed in black tailored suits trailed in and then he walked in. I could recognize that raven black hair and blue eyes anywhere. It was not hard for Viktor's eyes to find me since I stood out in the room in my bloody wedding dress. Viktor's eyes darkened when he spotted Mikhail, and for a slight moment, Mikhail's expression changed with a fleeting emotion running through his eyes. It happened so fast that it seemed like I was seeing things. Viktor looked away from him, and an evil lopsided grin graced his face that scared the shit out of me. Every step Viktor took towards me seemed like death was walking towards me. My entire body trembled. "It seems your husband is here to take you on your honeymoon." Mikhail nonchalantly chimed. Everyone in the room knew Viktor. He was the king of the underworld and was equally shaken except for one person who seemed amused by Viktor's entrance. "Honeymoon my ass, he was to take my neck to the guillotine." I sneered, which was not too far-fetched; chopping my head off was not a hassle for Viktor to do, he would probably be grinning while watching. Viktor stopped a few steps away with his eyes locked on us. " Adele, why did you run away from the wedding and end up ruining your dress? We are yet to attend our reception." He chimed with a tender gaze acting oblivious to the fact he just unalived my entire family. He even called me by a nickname how sweet of him. I have never been more disgusted. "I am not going anywhere with you, Viktor," I said through my gritted teeth, backing away from Viktor. Viktor still maintained his facade, putting on a hurt gaze. "What do you mean by that? If anything is the problem we can sort it out together." He said, still maintaining his tender gaze, walking towards me. "The only way we can sort out differences is if you kill yourself." I spat back at him, still backing away. Viktor got enraged with his facade falling apart. He briskly stormed forward. "You know it is rude to storm into someone's party without sparing a minute to greet them. Our parents taught you better dear little brother." Mikhail whispered just loud enough for the three of us to hear. He blocked Viktor from moving forward with his arm. Viktor's face turned ugly with his sharp gaze glaring at Mikhail. It was at that moment I realized something that was right in front of me the whole time; they both had the same raven-black hair and deep blue eyes. They could pass out to biological siblings. "I am here for my runaway wife's brother. Sorry for rudely interrupting your party." Viktor said with a forced smile. What the hell was happening? Was it possible they were brothers? One ruled the underground world while the other controlled the business world.ADELINA'S POV They were brothers, it took me a few seconds for it to sink in. Why didn't I ever realize the uncanny resemblance between Viktor and Mikhail? Although there was very little information or pictures related to Mikhail online I had seen him in person before. It was a public event I attended due to my family's influence; that was the first time I saw the infamous Mikhail Romanov from a distance. It was a fleeting view but his face left an impact that day. That was the reason I could easily recognize him today. Seeing Viktor and Mikhail face to face together made me question my intelligence. For crying out loud they had the same surname. I felt like screaming my head out because it seemed like I was doomed. ' Calm down, Adel, it is too early to rush to conclusions.' I drew in a breath to calm myself. I wasn't leaving this place with Viktor. Over my dead body. "Your wife," Mikhail's voice broke the stalemate; his brow was arched at Viktor's disdain, o
ADELINA'S POV I had lost it; never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine myself having a gun to my head and threatening to kill myself. My family might have been deeply rooted in the Mafia but I was the princess that was covered and protected from it. I was taught basic survival skills and given everything I wanted but never was I put in danger of any sort until today Viktor took it all from me. "If you are that desperate, pull the trigger." My breath hitched, as my eyes snapped to the source of the voice. Standing nonchalantly while twirling a glass of wine in between his fingers Mikhail watched me like a source of amusement. His eyes were taunting. "Do you think I am joking?" I sneered at him, his taunting gaze pushing me to the edge. If I had an inhibition for pulling the trigger it was gone now. His lips curled up to a smirk, "what do you think?" My hand tightened against the gun, it was clear I was lost of hope. "Fine, I hope you join me in hell soon." I
ADELINA'S POV A gentle tap on my shoulders jolted me from my slumber. My eyes popped out to meet a set of strange dark eyes. "We have arrived," he said, then gave me his hand, which I accepted. My head was spinning a bit. I was able to recognize him as the man Mikhail handed me over to. He led me out of the car, we were in an estate of a sort. An enormous mansion that screamed wealth stood in the background. It was already evening; the sun was already crossing the horizon, spreading its orange hue around the sky. "Is this Mikhail's place?" I asked as my eyes darted around to admire the spacious environs. The estate was close to the mountains, far from the busy city, with the property spreading over a large expanse of forest. Mikhail must either be very introverted or love nature to enjoy staying in such a place. "It is Mr Romanov for you and we need to get you into something presentable." His eyes darted around my iconic bloody wedding dress that was torn. My heart
ADELINA'S POV The dining room was lavish with the table filled with several delicacies. Mikhail sat at the head of the table with the lady sitting by his right. Mikhail's attention was on his food. He could care less about my presence, and the same could not be said for his lady friend. Her sharp dark eyes were on me as soon as I stepped into the room. "Who is she?" she demanded; Mikhail sighed and then glanced at me before turning back to cut his food on his plate. "She is a guest. Try to accommodate her for now." He answered smoothly. I was still stuck close to the door, I didn't like the way things were heading. "A guest, you didn't tell me you had someone at your house." She sneered at him, his face scrunching up into a scowl. "I am glad you know it is my house, Jessica." Mikhail sneered, not sparing the lady whose name turns out to be Jessica a single glance. "Mikhail," she drawled displeased, from the way she was reacting. My best guess was that she w
ADELINA'S POV I hated to see what I had become; I hated to beg at the mercy of someone, but it seemed I didn't have much of a choice either. Fear and desperation had eaten deep into me. It wasn't just a matter of revenge but of survival. Viktor was going to come after me and this was the only sanctuary I could get. He stared back at me, his gaze dead and unwavering at my desperate cries. "You are ready to give anything." He asked me, his cold gaze fixated on me. My throat suddenly went dry because it felt like the gaze of a predator and not a human. I slowly nodded and a smirk graced his lips His slender fingers slowly reached out and fell on my lips, causing my breath to hitch at the sudden strange sparks, something I hadn't felt before. My throat was going dry. His finger rolled over my lips, and I felt my heartbeat slow down as his eyes slowly went down to my cleavage. He leaned forward, and for a split second, I saw Viktor and a scene I wanted to forget. I
MIKHAIL'S POV She is dangerous, more dangerous than I expected. Today turned out with surprises I could not appreciate; finding out I am mated to a human is the worst thing I could imagine. It was a bond that could not be broken since it was mainly one-sided, and there was no way I was going to take the risk of exposing the existence of the other side hidden from humans to her. The plan was simple to entertain her long enough until I could figure out what to do about the entire situation. I know Viktor was not going to give up that easily but I could not take the risk of her being in the same building with me for long. My wolf was already clawing inside, wanting to come out, wanting to claim her, but he, of all people, knew why that couldn't happen. He knows the catastrophe that would cause if news leaks of the Lycan King having a human mate, having a weakness. She might be feisty and a bit crazy but it will take more than that to survive in my world. She had
ADELINA'S POV The entire night I was wide awake, not even a wink of sleep. How could I sleep when I knew by day break I was leaving the little security I felt here. That aside whenever I closed my eyes images after images of the wedding appeared in my mind. Their blank stares haunted me in my dreams. It was my fault, all my fault. I caused their deaths. My eyes shot open, my chest heaving as I struggled to breath. My entire body was drenched with sweat with large dark circles under my eyes. Testament of my sleepless nights. "Hsssss," a sharp hiss left my lips as I struggled to sit up with my back against the head board. The bright sun rays were peaking through the window. The curtains flutter slightly. The sun was already high from my guess it was close to mid day. My eyes darted around the room until it fell on the side drawer at the other side of the bed where there was a set of cleanly folded clothes and a note. I rolled over to the other side. My hand r
ADELINA'S POV It was a threat, and from the way her eyes burned, something in my guts told me she was more than capable of doing that. I nervously gulped, my fist balling. "I don't know where you got that idea from, because my surname is Marino doesn't mean I am associated with the Mafia syndicate. Marino is a popular surname, and besides, I haven't done anything to warrant such threats." I defended myself not letting myself be pushed down by her. She might be powerful but she had no right to push me around. Jessica scoffed, "Do you have any idea who you are talking to? My brother is the present governor, and I don't want to brag about my family connections, but I am more than capable of making one girl disappear. After al, you have no one." My eyes dilated, she was related to the Slade family. Talk about trouble, that explains why she quickly associated me with the Marino family. My family has had some deals with the Slade family in the past and has rigged a cou
ADELINA'S POV The cloud rumbled and started to pour wetting the soil. The air smelled like mud, and the pit-pat sounds of the rain echoed. I didn't know what came over me to stand in between Viktor and Vivianna; if I hadn't, blood might have poured today. I was tired of the bloodshed. "Please let's stop. We can just talk like adults." I repeated, my eyes pleading with Vivianna to let go. She sighed, then resigned to my pleading. "Fine, just a simple conversation." She replied. I smiled, grateful she was standing down. Someone grabbed my hand, making me snap my head in Viktor's direction. If looks could kill he would be dead now. "Let go of my hand," I barked at him, trying to pull my arm from his grasp, but his hold only tightened. Vivianna tried to intervene, but before she moved, she was already surrounded by Viktor's men, who dragged her away. "Let go of me you bastards," she barked as she was being pulled away. I tried to fight Viktor, trying to snatch my hand but I
ADELINA'S POV Days passed and I didn't step out of the mansion. I stayed indoors, grieving and ordering takeout with my pocket money. I was scared of stepping out because of the car; from the street cameras, they were still there watching. My guts told me it was Viktor. That aside, after emailing the divorce documents to Viktor, there hasn't been any news from him. I don't know how long I will be able to live alone in this Mansion under these conditions; it was too suffocating. Today, the mansion was lively, and the car finally left. I had guests today. Honestly, it was surprising that many people showed up for the funeral. I Only hoped nothing out of the ordinary happened and I could put my family to rest. My parents and brother were to be buried at the family cemetery within our properties not too far from the mansion. Some of our old business partners and well-wishers showed up. "Lina the priest is here," I heard a soft feminine voice call me. My atten
ADELINA'S POV Exhaustion washed over me as I stepped out of the government building. The sun was blazing and hot. I had to shield myself from its rays with the envelope I had in my hand. Even the sun wasn't on my side today. I quickly spotted the silver car Casper drove me in and approached it. He actually waited all this while in the car. Casper sensed me approaching the car from a distance away and glanced in my direction. He was on a call which he hung up on as soon as I opened the door. "Thank you for waiting. I am sorry I took a long time." I chimed while buckling my seat belt. Casper didn't reply or ask what I was doing and just started the car. I had a feeling he didn't like me, not that I cared. Casper quickly changed directions to the direction of the Marino mansion. He didn't even ask me for the way he already knew. The drive was quiet and a bit long, but soon, we approached the familiar gates of my family mansion. The gates were closed so Casper had
ADELINA'S POV I stared at the court for a while, my heart felt heavy. A mix of anger and bitterness. Beep, the honking sounds of the car beside me drew me out of my thoughts. I gave Casper a weak smile, he was a bit impatient. "Here we go," I drew in a breath then marched into the large government building. My steps felt heavy as I climbed up the stairs then finally entered through the revolving doors. As soon as I got in, the loud news report from the TV in the reception area caught my attention. It was not surprising to know my family affair was making headlines. Oddly enough, nothing was mentioned about the bride. It felt like the media was deliberately hiding my identity, or rather, they had no idea I existed. Either way, it was a win for me. I walked up to the receptionist, it was the same lady that assisted when I came with Viktor. She was surprised to see me so soon. "Good morning, I wasn't expecting to see you on this lovely Saturday morning. I hope th
