ADELINA'S POV
I was completely blown out of my mind when I heard him. Mikhail Romanov was a mystery to me. A seasoned businessman who suddenly popped out of nowhere and stormed the entire business world. There was very little about him online but there were rumours of how ruthless he was when taking out his competition and how much underground connection he has. When I said I was ready to do anything in my mind, the most degrading thing that crossed my mind was to be his servant at his mercy, but it never crossed my mind he would tell me to strip in a public event. I bit my lower lip in between my teeth, not only because of how nervous I felt in his presence but also thanks to the Bullet wound in my arm. "You must be joking, that can't be a request." I blurted. Thinking he would laugh out, saying it was a joke, but he didn't budge one bit. He stood tall with his hand in his pocket and his eyes keenly observing me. His lips parted, and my heartbeat dropped at his next statement. "Do I look like I am joking?" He arched his brow at me. "Big words and I thought you were ready to do whatever it takes." He scoffed at me then his eyes trailed away. My hands clenched until my fist turned white instigated by his words. "The request is absurd. I can't strip in public." I gritted my teeth at him. He didn't seem bothered by my reasoning; without a doubt, we were the centre of attention. A bloody bride and the biggest business tycoon. My veil was still attached to my hair. "It is a simple request or will you prefer if I say kill someone here." He suggested then beckoned on someone I think was part of his security. The tall guy approached us and pulled out a slick pistol. I stared at the gun, stunned at the nerves he had to request I murder in the open air. "You have two options: either you strip, or you use this gun and shoot that lady in the head." He pointed out a particular lady I recognized to be a social elite. "If you can't choose either then get the hell out my way." His eyes darkened, annoyed by my presence. He was, as they said, a devil. How could he ask me to strip in a public place? I was out of options. It was either I lost my pride as a woman, or I got convicted of murder. He was not scared of openly saying things like this because he was so rich that even the government didn't have a hold on him; instead, it was the other way around. "Fine, I will do it." I barely whispered but I think he heard me. My throat went dry and I nervously gulped down. His eyes didn't leave me even for a second. I slowly reached for the threads at the back of my dress because it was a corset dress fastened with thread. I slowly loosened the knot and started to undo the lace. Viktor might be a devil but Mikhail was a sadist. He had an evil grin amused at my actions. I started to doubt if approaching him was the right choice. It was not too late to turn back, Viktor was probably raking through the streets looking for me now. I knew the type of person he was; Viktor was never going to leave a single member of the Marino family to roam free. A potential threat that could come after him. What did I do to be in this situation? All I wanted was to get married to the man I loved. After I was done with the thread, my eyes locked with Mikhail's eyes. His Adam's apple gobbled. My hands reached out for the shoulder of the dress to pull it down. My eyes pressed together as this would be the most embarrassing and degrading moment of my life. The doors burst open, and everyone's eyes were drawn to the entrance, saving me at the nick of time. A bunch of men dressed in black tailored suits trailed in and then he walked in. I could recognize that raven black hair and blue eyes anywhere. It was not hard for Viktor's eyes to find me since I stood out in the room in my bloody wedding dress. Viktor's eyes darkened when he spotted Mikhail, and for a slight moment, Mikhail's expression changed with a fleeting emotion running through his eyes. It happened so fast that it seemed like I was seeing things. Viktor looked away from him, and an evil lopsided grin graced his face that scared the shit out of me. Every step Viktor took towards me seemed like death was walking towards me. My entire body trembled. "It seems your husband is here to take you on your honeymoon." Mikhail nonchalantly chimed. Everyone in the room knew Viktor. He was the king of the underworld and was equally shaken except for one person who seemed amused by Viktor's entrance. "Honeymoon my ass, he was to take my neck to the guillotine." I sneered, which was not too far-fetched; chopping my head off was not a hassle for Viktor to do, he would probably be grinning while watching. Viktor stopped a few steps away with his eyes locked on us. " Adele, why did you run away from the wedding and end up ruining your dress? We are yet to attend our reception." He chimed with a tender gaze acting oblivious to the fact he just unalived my entire family. He even called me by a nickname how sweet of him. I have never been more disgusted. "I am not going anywhere with you, Viktor," I said through my gritted teeth, backing away from Viktor. Viktor still maintained his facade, putting on a hurt gaze. "What do you mean by that? If anything is the problem we can sort it out together." He said, still maintaining his tender gaze, walking towards me. "The only way we can sort out differences is if you kill yourself." I spat back at him, still backing away. Viktor got enraged with his facade falling apart. He briskly stormed forward. "You know it is rude to storm into someone's party without sparing a minute to greet them. Our parents taught you better dear little brother." Mikhail whispered just loud enough for the three of us to hear. He blocked Viktor from moving forward with his arm. Viktor's face turned ugly with his sharp gaze glaring at Mikhail. It was at that moment I realized something that was right in front of me the whole time; they both had the same raven-black hair and deep blue eyes. They could pass out to biological siblings. "I am here for my runaway wife's brother. Sorry for rudely interrupting your party." Viktor said with a forced smile. What the hell was happening? Was it possible they were brothers? One ruled the underground world while the other controlled the business world.**** trigger warning skip if you can't handle dark scenes**** ADELINA'S POV My stomach grumbled and I stirred uncomfortably in my sleep. Rolling from one point to another on the bed. My brows furrowed, ' What am I doing on a bed?' I wondered. I clearly remember collapsing in the living room and the driver followed me in. How did I get to the bed? The room felt weird. My eyes slowly opened, and the room was dark. The feeling didn't go away, the strange feeling that made my stomach churn. I sat up, my eyes darted around the room until they fell on my study desk. For a moment I could not breathe with my heart hammering loudly.. "Mikhail," I called out, my voice shaking. A mix of fear and disbelief filled me. He didn't reply, "Who are you?" I asked, almost barking at the man who sat across the room, with a calm expression and his deep blue eyes staring at me like everything else was dust.. His gaze didn't flatter, the room was dimly lit by the night light from the window th
ADELINA'S POV The club pulsed like a living thing loud, hot, and wild. The air was thick with the strong stench of alcohol, cigarettes and that feeling that makes you feel alive. The bass throbbed under my feet, deep and steady, shaking through the floor and up into my chest. Lights flashed in every direction, reds, blues, purples making everything feel like a dream I wasn’t fully inside yet. Jonathan's thick perfume wafted towards me as we danced too close. I could taste the sweetness of my drink still on my tongue and feel the heat clinging to my skin. I didn’t care. I was free. When was the last time I let loose like this? A laugh escaped my lips. "It's my favourite song." I chimed holding onto Jonathan "You love Olivia and heartbreak songs." He commented. What could I say my love life was a complete mess. Jonathan spun me once, and I laughed, loud and real. My hair stuck to my neck, my dress clung to my hips, and my feet barely touched the ground as I moved to the music
ADELINA'S POV As a reward for securing the deal, the entire team was hosted by Mikhail at one of the best clubhouses in the city. "I can't wait to loosen up after all this tension." Sophia giggled, her eyes sparkling with excitement after hearing the news. "I am not sure I can go, my fiancé already made plans for tonight." Lydia sighed disheartened. It was past closing hours, so we had to work late today in case we were called upon during the signing. "Come on, I can't be the only one going," Sophia whined, then slumped in her seat like her life was over. "Why are you doing this to me?" She continued. Lydia rolled her eyes, then grabbed her bag, ready to leave. Her phone buzzed with a text notification she quickly read. "Jayden is already waiting for me downstairs. Stop being dramatic, Kim and Adel are also going." Lydia said, double-checking if she forgot anything.. I was also getting ready to go home, and I had to call Asher to ask him about the meeting
ADELINA'S POV Whispers started to fly around. Kimberly was clearly the one who ruined my outfit, but I was the bad guy for stopping her from making the stain worse. "I wasn't harsh," I argued. Lydia shot me a sharp glare, then Sophia came to console Kimberly, still crying. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to walk into you." She repeated rubbing her eyes. Her act was compelling, without a doubt, but I even got sick of it. "Sorry, Adel didn't mean to be harsh." Sophia chimed. I was sick of watching their drama and stormed away to the restroom. I slammed the door behind me then screamed my guts out. God, I felt like pulling my hair. Kimberly was truly out for me. She knew my appearance was important and ruined my blouse. It was too late to get something else. . "I am sick and tired of this." I groaned. I quickly pulled off the blouse to assess the damage and check if there was any hope of salvaging the situation The stain was pretty large and hard to ignore o
ADELINA'S POV There was a knock on the door drawing my attention from some notes I was going through. "The door is open," I chimed, dropping the note on the desk. The door was pushed half open, Casper was holding the handle, his eyes darted around the room before they landed on me. "Do you need anything, Casper?" I asked him. My brow was arched at him, waiting for him to say why the hell he was here "Sorry to bother you but I am heading to the office and was wondering if you will need a ride." He asked. It was truly generous of him to offer me a ride. I glanced at my phone screen to check the time. It was already 1 pm. "No, it's fine. Can you give me some time to let me quickly get ready?" I requested. He nodded understanding my request. "Fine, I will be waiting for you in the car then." He politely replied then left. A few minutes later, I walked down the stairs, heading for the door. "I am going to work now," I informed Petra who was still watching h
ADELINA'S POV The car stopped in front of my home on Ava Street. I could already spot the car Casper left last night and knew he was in. "Thank you for the ride." I chimed at the driver as I got out. I adjust my bag on my shoulders then rush towards the door. It clicked open and I stepped. "Petra," I called out loudly. My eyes were immediately drawn to the living area where the TV was left on. Petra was sitting on the floor watching a movie while munching on some snacks. She didn't hear me at first so I had to call her again. "Petra," I called. My feet quickly made their way towards her. Petra heard this time around and glanced in my direction. "Adelina, you are back. " She chimed with a smile. My eyes darted around her body, noticing just a bandage wrapped around her forehead; aside from that, she looked fine. Petra didn't look like she had just survived a life-threatening accident I got a bit emotional, relief rushed through me and I rushed to pull her
