A bolt from the blue

Liberty’s POV

Something moving quickly draws my eye to the left and that is when I see her, stumbling in the mud, the drenched ground eating away at her progress. She is so close to us I can feel her panic, but the wolves behind her are gaining fast.

I stand motionless and watch, with my heart pulsating rapidly in my throat, as Gerald and half of the men I brought with me unbuckle their armour and let it fall to the ground before racing towards her on all fours. A blur of grey, sable, black and tan, rushes past with lightning speed. I know they can easily eliminate the threat that Kendrick’s men would pose to us, but can they reach Melissa in time to save her.

The clouds above part, casting a silver glow from the moon onto the scene playing out before me. The rain and wind almost stop, and everything seems to move in slow motion. It’s like the Goddess swept the storm aside to see events unfold for herself.
