Chapter Four

“So remember that yesterday i told you i went on a date with Jack.” Lauren then said to Purity as she was putting blue nail polish on her feet. Purity nodded to indicate that she remembered. Jack was some guy that Luaren had been trying to get to notice her, he was handsome with green eyes and red hair. Lauren was also pretty with her brunette hair and greenish eyes. She was head over heels for him and had been so ecstatic when he had finally asked her out. They had been dating for a month now.

“Well he broke up with me yesterday saying he needed a break. And to think he was my first and i lost my virginity to him.” Lauren then continued and Purity could see the sorrow on her face and how heartbroken she was.

“Im truly sorry,” Purity then said hugging her as the tears started flowing freely on Lauren`s face. She then stopped and cleaned her face.

“But you know what i will get over him quickly just as he did me.” Lauren then said back to being her happy self.

“So can you tell me, how was it your first time?” Purity then said asking her curiously.

“it is not even remotely like the movies. It was very bad at first as all i felt was pain and as for the rest, all Jack cared about was pleasing himself only and not pleasing me too. He was rough too and not gentle. But i put up with it since i really liked him.” Lauren then answered purity in reply. And then they changed to other topics like what universities had accepted them were they were going next years as they were about to graduate high school. Purity was still undecided about what she wanted to do

Since she loved computers and a tech whiz, she finally decided to study computer science. And so she started applying to universities while thinking 3 years more to go and she could finally be free of her Grandpa`s wish and start dating. By then she would be about 23 years old.

College Years

Mom! I just got accepted to study at Auckland University,” Purity then shouted in joy to her mom who was in the kitchen cooking supper. The was exactly the university she wanted to go as it was far enough from home for her to have her freedom but also nearby that she could travel home to see her family any time. She had successfully graduated high school with high grades and said her goodbyes to her high school friends while promising to keep in contact.

And this was after a long holiday where she had gone to visit their relatives in America for thanksgiving holiday. After arriving in America, there were thrown a party and met with all their relatives. Her Dad Walter had boasted to her uncles about how his first born daughter never had a boyfriend. Oh how happy he was that Purity had no dating history as that was the only thing that always worried him about having daughters. He made sure to tell her he was proud of her and how she should continue like that and how as soon as she graduates college she can bring any boy she likes and introduce to him.

But Aunt Martha overhearing this had told Purity that it was unhealthy to not have a boyfriend at her age, how she should start dating now or she would become some single old aged lady living with cats. But Purity saw nothing wrong with that as she did love cats after all.

But she helped lessen her aunties concerns by reminding her how right now as a 50 year old woman she had found love and was about to get married. “So if you aunty Martha just found a husband at 50 years old, why can’t i too find him at 23 years old when I’m ready and have finished my studies.” Purity had said to her and the story ended.

Purity was also saddened as she saw her cousin, Uncle Steven’s daughter who almost studied to become a doctor but got pregnant named Ruth. She now looked skinny with bags under her eyes and had two more babies she was handling while her husband walked around busy flirting with other women at the party. 

“You know when we started dating; he convinced me that he would pay all my study fees for me and that i did not need that scholarship. I trusted him and now look where i am at, a house wife that he just casts aside while he goes around cheating on me. And when i confront him about the messages on his phone, he beats me. And then the next morning expects me to tend to the kids with bruises everywhere. Sometimes we sleep with no food in the house because he does not want to give me money and finishes it all spending it on other women.” Her cousin then said confiding in Purity.

“I hate it being treated like im worthless. If only i had my own money i would have packed my bags and gone with my kids to live by ourselves. But alas i have no source of income and depend on him while dealing with being treated like a punching bag. So as advise if a guy tells you he will pay for your fees, never believe him and instead make him wait. If he is serious about you then he will wait for you.” She then continued and then went to change one of the kiddies nappies.  After hearing that Purity was now more determined to fulfill her grandpa`s promise. She never wanted to end up like Ruth with no money to look after herself and being forced to be someone`s slave.

After she graduated she would have a successful job and money. If any guy treated her like trash then she would dump his ass and go to some overseas trip booking hotels enjoying her money and even buy her own apartment. She was a gril who knew what shee wanted.
