Prologue

 North dove Hospital

The hospital was bustling with activity just like any other ordinary day with doctor, nurses, patients and visitors all minding their own business and fulfilling whatever purpose they were there for. But for one girl visitor this was the day she was made to make a life changing decision in her life.

It had all started with her beloved grandpa now 85 years old, getting sick and being admitted into the hospital. Then came the tragic news of him having cancer and soon to die in the following weeks to come. To everyone in the family this was not unexpected news as after all he was too old now and could die any day.

But for the girl named Purity, this was devastating news as her grandad George had always been an important person in her life. He was after all the only grandparent she had left as all the other ones had died and gone to be with the Lord.

Who was going to tell her interesting stories of the good old days? Spoil her with gifts and sweets or call her my favorite beloved granddaughter? She felt as if part of her world was ending and did not know how to stop it. She felt helpless as she now stood in the hospital room seeing her grandpa looking weak and frail while lying on the sick bed no longer that vibrant old man who was always making her laugh with funny jokes.  

“My dear purity please don’t waste those beautiful tears and sorrow on an old man such as me whose time has come after living a long wonderful life for 85 years. Be happy as I’m finally going be with your grandma my beloved wife.” George then said in a small voice to his granddaughter had tears flowing endlessly for him. He was also trying to be strong and not show any pain so as to not worry her even though his whole body was aching and pain everywhere as if something was feasting on his flesh on the inside. “It’s just that I’m going to surely miss you.” She then replied him while taking tissues to wipe away her tears.

She was the only visitor in there to comfort him as everyone was busy from her dad busy talking to the doctor at the doctor`s office to her mother who went out to go buy some food for them to eat.

He then motioned for her to come sit closer there on the bed with him as he could not talk loud with his voice now weak. She moved from her chair and sat on the bed next to him. “Whenever you miss me just remind yourself that your grandpa will be up there in heaven watching over you.” He then said giving her a small hug. After sitting in some silence, George then decided this was the right time to tell his granddaughter what had been weighing on his mind with regards to her.

“My granddaughter i have always loved your beautiful name Purity and after all im the one who suggested it to your father Walter, my son.” He then and stopped to cough and drink some water.

“I realized that all the females in my legacy from my daughter, your aunty Martha to my other granddaughters were all ruining their lives and not living the life i meant for them to live. They could have first successfully finished their educations, gotten good jobs but instead they dated too early, had pregnancies and depended on the baby fathers for money.” George then said remembering the hurt he had felt because of his daughter Martha.

 In the past, 65 years ago, he had once been poor but wanted a better life for all his kids. So he had worked double shifts as a park ranger to pay school fees for his first born child Martha to get an education, so she could get a good job and uplift the family. While they struggled at home sometimes sleeping without eating supper to pay for her fees teenager Martha had been busy giving the school fees money to her boyfriend to make him love her.

She pretended to be going to class to study but would instead change direction the boyfriend`s house and eat the money with him. One day George became suspicious and decided to go the school about her progress and got the devastating news that his daughter had not been attending the course and had outstanding debt of fees.
