FIFTY-TWO

Sweat tickled down Clarissa’s hair and face. Her body jerked from left to right as her hands clutched at the thin mattress. Her eyes were shut tight and she could barely see what was in front of her. All she knew was that there was so much intensity and darkness that was around.

The windows flapped and the lights had gone out, leaving just darkness to reign. Her lips formed an o, but no words were uttered. It was simply a relentless turning and jerking of the body.

Suddenly, her hands went to her necklace, and then, went back to clenching the sheets. In minutes, the light glowed, illuminating the whole room in so many colors.

Clarissa sat up in bed with a start, and the light died immediately. Her fluttered to the necklace, as her heart pounded erratically.

What was that?
