"You? My mate? The moon goddess must be kidding me," Leon’s voice was sharp, his eyes narrowing on me with nothing but disgust.
The words cut into me like a blade. My lips trembled as whispers filled the room.
My knees felt weak, and I could barely breathe. Tears gathered in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall in front of everyone.
I had been his maid since I was a little girl. I knew his scent, his laugh, his smile. I had loved him silently for so long. But now, he looked at me like I was filth.
“Leon…” I whispered, my voice shaking. “I…”
“Shut up!” he barked, his voice echoing. “I will not have a low omega like you as my mate. From today onward, you are banished from this pack. Leave. And don’t ever show your face in front of me again.”
The words hit me harder than any physical blow could. Banished. Just like that.
I tried to swallow the lump in my throat, but my hands shook as the tray of dishes I was holding slipped from my fingers. The plates crashed to the ground, breaking loudly. Shards cut across my palm, and warm blood dripped down my hand. Gasps and laughter broke out across the hall.
Maya stepped forward, her lips curling into a cruel smirk. She looped her hand through Leon’s arm like she owned him. “She doesn’t belong here anyway,” she said sweetly, loud enough for everyone to hear. “Don’t waste your anger on trash.”
Leon’s face softened instantly at her touch. He smiled at her. He actually smiled. My chest burned as if my heart had been ripped out.
The crowd began to laugh, mocking me.
“She’s just a maid.”
“An omega as the Alpha’s mate? Impossible.”
“She should be grateful he didn’t kill her.”
Their words stabbed into me, each one heavier than the last. My vision blurred with tears as I clumsily tried to gather myself. My injured hand throbbed as blood stained my dress. I had never felt so humiliated in my life.
I turned and stumbled out of the pack house, my eyes burning, my breath shaky. I didn’t even know where I was going. I just wanted to get away from their mocking stares, their laughter, his cold eyes.
“Elena.”
I froze at the sound of my name. I turned and saw Ethan, Leon’s Beta, rushing toward me. His eyes darted around, making sure no one else was watching. He carried a small bag and pressed it into my hands.
“Here,” he whispered urgently. “Food, water, gold…some money. It’s not much, but it should help you survive. I'll find you Elena.”
My lips parted in shock. “Why… Why are you doing this? Why are you so nice to me?”
His jaw clenched, and his eyes softened as they met mine. For a second, it looked like he wanted to say something. Instead, he gently brushed a strand of hair away from my face, his touch was careful.
“Just… go, Elena. Go quickly, before anyone sees you. Be safe. I’m sorry I can’t do more.”
I bit my lip to stop myself from crying again. I wanted to thank him, but my throat was too tight. I nodded and turned away, clutching the bag to my chest. The forest loomed ahead, dark and unforgiving, but it was better than staying here another second.
My feet carried me past the borders of the pack. My chest ached, and my injured hand throbbed. I walked and walked, tears slipping down my cheeks as the weight of rejection pressed on me. I was tired, weak, and alone.
That was when I heard it—the snapping of branches. My stomach twisted.
“Well, what do we have here?” a rough voice sneered. Shadows moved between the trees, and soon I was surrounded. Rogues. Their eyes gleamed with hunger. My heart pounded as I clutched the bag tighter.
“Please,” I whispered. “I don’t want trouble. Just let me go.”
They laughed. One of them yanked the bag from my hands and tossed it to another. “Looks like she’s got some goodies. Food and cash. Thanks, sweetheart.”
“No…please! That’s all I have!” I cried, my voice cracking.
The tallest one stepped closer, his eyes raking over me in a way that made my skin crawl. “We can’t just take her things and leave. She’s very pretty. We can have a little more fun with her.”
My chest tightened in terror. “No… please, don’t…”
“Shut up.” He grabbed my wrist harshly, pulling me toward him. His free hand tugged at my torn sleeve, exposing my shoulder. I struggled, but he was too strong. My heart raced as panic surged through me.
“Let me go!” I screamed, thrashing wildly, but my voice echoed into the empty forest where no one would hear.
He pressed me against a tree, his breath foul against my face.
“Stop fighting. You’ll like it soon enough.”
His hand moved lower, and I felt bile rise in my throat. Desperation filled me as tears streamed down my cheeks. I clawed at his arm, but he only laughed.
And then… he stopped.
His eyes widened in shock as blood bubbled from his mouth. He collapsed at my feet, lifeless.
The other rogues froze, their faces turning pale. Their leader was dead in an instant.
“Alpha Kael,” one of them whispered, his voice trembling. “He’s here…”
“Run!” another shouted, and they scattered into the night, their fear overwhelming.
My entire body shook as I slowly turned. My breath caught in my throat.
A man stood in the shadows, tall, broad-shouldered, his eyes glowing faintly in the moonlight. His presence was overwhelming. He walked toward me with calm steps, his gaze never leaving mine.
My chest rose and fell rapidly. My lips parted on instinct, and before I could stop myself, a single word slipped out in a shaky whisper.
“Mate?”
Elena’s POVI woke up with my hands tied above my head. My heart slammed hard. My legs were tied too. I struggled against the ropes.“Where am I?” I shouted. “Who tied me up? Let me go!”The room was too quiet. I could hear my own breathing echoing. Then the door creaked open.A tall man stepped inside. He looked calm but dangerous. His eyes scanned me slowly.“Don’t be afraid,” he said quietly. “You’re safe here.”“Safe?” I hissed. “I’m tied up like a prisoner! Untie me right now.”He walked closer and placed a glass of water on the table near me. “You must be thirsty. Drink.”I glared. “I’m not drinking anything from you. Just tell me why I’m here.”He sighed. “Still stubborn. You haven’t changed.”My jaw tightened. “Changed? I don’t even know you. Who are you? Why did you abduct me? Are you Cassian? The murderer?”His eyes softened in a way I didn’t understand. He came closer, knelt beside me, and reached for my bound hands.“Look how grown my little sister has become,” he whispere
I sat on my bed, hugging my knees to my chest. The silence in the room was too loud. My mind replayed everything, over and over.“Leon and Kael finally decided to unite their packs after the letter,” I whispered to myself. The thought still didn’t feel real. The memory of Leon’s lips on mine made my stomach twist. My heart skipped. My wolf snickered. Does he really mean it? That kiss wasn’t just an accident, Elena. He still wants you.“Shut up,” I muttered. “I don’t want to think about it.”But then the fight slammed into my mind again. Their fists. The growls. The blood. The way they almost shifted into wolves right in front of me. I closed my eyes tight.“No…” I breathed. “I can’t.”Boots shuffled outside my door. Guards. Both Leon and Kael had ordered them after the threatening letter. It was supposed to make me feel safe. Instead, it felt like prison bars. The door opened. Kael walked in.“Elena.” His voice was low and calm.I looked up sharply. He came closer, his eyes locking on
Elena’s POV“Leon…”I gasped and pushed him away, my lips still burning from the sudden kiss. My heart pounded. Before I could even speak, a loud voice cut through the air.“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”Kael was already there. His eyes were blazing. He grabbed Leon by the collar and slammed him backward.Leon didn’t flinch. He smirked. “What does it look like?”Kael growled. His fist flew and crashed into Leon’s jaw.Leon staggered but came right back with a punch to Kael’s face.“Stop it!” I shouted. “Please stop!”Neither of them listened.Kael threw another punch. Leon blocked it and shoved him hard against the wall. The sound of the impact made me flinch.“Don’t you ever touch her again!” Kael roared.“She’s mine!” Leon roared back, slamming his fist into Kael’s stomach.Kael doubled over, but only for a second. He came back with a brutal uppercut that snapped Leon’s head back.Blood sprayed from Leon’s lip. He wiped it and grinned. “Is that all you’ve got?”They char
Elena’s POV“Leon…” my voice cracked, my chest aching. His eyes locked onto mine, and my wolf whimpered.“Elena…” he whispered, pain written all over his face.Tears welled in my eyes, my heart breaking all over again.Kael’s hand tightened into a fist. His jaw ticked.Leon took a step forward.I quickly broke eye contact, swallowing hard.Kael’s arm suddenly wrapped around my waist.“What…Kael?” I whispered, startled.“Stay close,” he muttered sharply. Before Leon could reach me, Kael pulled me firmly toward the stage.“Wait…where are you taking me?” I asked, confused.“Where you belong,” Kael replied in a low tone.We stood on the stage, all eyes on us.The hall grew silent.Kael’s deep voice boomed.“Welcome, alphas and betas. Tonight, we are gathered to discuss the danger of Cassian and the possible alliances among our packs.”Murmurs rose among the crowd.“Who is she?”“She’s so beautiful.”“Could she be his mate?”Kael’s lips curved. He pulled me closer, holding me intimately.“
Elena’s POV“Ethan?” My voice cracked in shock. I could not believe my eyes. The guard dragged him in roughly, but I knew that face anywhere.“Ethan, what are you doing here?”Kael looked between us, his eyes narrowing. “So. You know this man.”Ethan straightened, even with guards gripping his arms. His eyes were fixed only on me.“Yes. I know her.”Kael’s jaw tightened. His voice dropped lower. “You come into my territory uninvited. You dare stand here in front of me. Do you know what that means, Beta?”“I don’t care what you do to me,” Ethan said firmly. “Just don’t hurt her. That’s all I ask. It is a personal request.”Kael’s eyes burned as he stepped closer. “You think you can protect her from me?”“Kael, please,” I said softly, giving him a look that begged him not to hurt Ethan. My heart raced. I had never expected to see Ethan here.Kael stopped, staring at me for a moment. His jaw was still tight, but he let out a slow breath and raised his hand. “Release him.”The guards loo
Leon’s POV“You are both banished from this pack!” I roared. My chest was burning with anger.“Never return. Not tomorrow. Not ever. If you dare set foot here again, you will be killed on sight.”“Leon, please!” Maya dropped to her knees and grabbed my hand. “It’s not what you think. I still love you. Please…Please don’t do this to me. I beg you!”“Love?” I pulled my hand away and pushed her to the ground. “Don’t ever say that word to me again. I gave you everything. I trusted you. And you were in bed with my Gamma.”“Alpha, please…” Jaxon tried to step forward.“Shut up!” I snapped. “You were my brother, Jaxon. My right hand. And you betrayed me in the worst way. Both of you disgust me. Get out before I kill you with my bare hands.”Maya cried, shaking her head. “I was weak… it was a mistake… Please, Leon, don’t send me away. I can’t survive without you.”“Then die out there,” I said coldly. “Because you’re nothing to me now.”“Alpha, I swear it was her…” Jaxon tried to defend himse
