View More"You? My mate? The moon goddess must be kidding me," Leon’s voice was sharp, his eyes narrowing on me with nothing but disgust.
The words cut into me like a blade. My lips trembled as whispers filled the room.
My knees felt weak, and I could barely breathe. Tears gathered in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall in front of everyone.
I had been his maid since I was a little girl. I knew his scent, his laugh, his smile. I had loved him silently for so long. But now, he looked at me like I was filth.
“Leon…” I whispered, my voice shaking. “I…”
“Shut up!” he barked, his voice echoing. “I will not have a low omega like you as my mate. From today onward, you are banished from this pack. Leave. And don’t ever show your face in front of me again.”
The words hit me harder than any physical blow could. Banished. Just like that.
I tried to swallow the lump in my throat, but my hands shook as the tray of dishes I was holding slipped from my fingers. The plates crashed to the ground, breaking loudly. Shards cut across my palm, and warm blood dripped down my hand. Gasps and laughter broke out across the hall.
Maya stepped forward, her lips curling into a cruel smirk. She looped her hand through Leon’s arm like she owned him. “She doesn’t belong here anyway,” she said sweetly, loud enough for everyone to hear. “Don’t waste your anger on trash.”
Leon’s face softened instantly at her touch. He smiled at her. He actually smiled. My chest burned as if my heart had been ripped out.
The crowd began to laugh, mocking me.
“She’s just a maid.”
“An omega as the Alpha’s mate? Impossible.”
“She should be grateful he didn’t kill her.”
Their words stabbed into me, each one heavier than the last. My vision blurred with tears as I clumsily tried to gather myself. My injured hand throbbed as blood stained my dress. I had never felt so humiliated in my life.
I turned and stumbled out of the pack house, my eyes burning, my breath shaky. I didn’t even know where I was going. I just wanted to get away from their mocking stares, their laughter, his cold eyes.
“Elena.”
I froze at the sound of my name. I turned and saw Ethan, Leon’s Beta, rushing toward me. His eyes darted around, making sure no one else was watching. He carried a small bag and pressed it into my hands.
“Here,” he whispered urgently. “Food, water, gold…some money. It’s not much, but it should help you survive. I'll find you Elena.”
My lips parted in shock. “Why… Why are you doing this? Why are you so nice to me?”
His jaw clenched, and his eyes softened as they met mine. For a second, it looked like he wanted to say something. Instead, he gently brushed a strand of hair away from my face, his touch was careful.
“Just… go, Elena. Go quickly, before anyone sees you. Be safe. I’m sorry I can’t do more.”
I bit my lip to stop myself from crying again. I wanted to thank him, but my throat was too tight. I nodded and turned away, clutching the bag to my chest. The forest loomed ahead, dark and unforgiving, but it was better than staying here another second.
My feet carried me past the borders of the pack. My chest ached, and my injured hand throbbed. I walked and walked, tears slipping down my cheeks as the weight of rejection pressed on me. I was tired, weak, and alone.
That was when I heard it—the snapping of branches. My stomach twisted.
“Well, what do we have here?” a rough voice sneered. Shadows moved between the trees, and soon I was surrounded. Rogues. Their eyes gleamed with hunger. My heart pounded as I clutched the bag tighter.
“Please,” I whispered. “I don’t want trouble. Just let me go.”
They laughed. One of them yanked the bag from my hands and tossed it to another. “Looks like she’s got some goodies. Food and cash. Thanks, sweetheart.”
“No…please! That’s all I have!” I cried, my voice cracking.
The tallest one stepped closer, his eyes raking over me in a way that made my skin crawl. “We can’t just take her things and leave. She’s very pretty. We can have a little more fun with her.”
My chest tightened in terror. “No… please, don’t…”
“Shut up.” He grabbed my wrist harshly, pulling me toward him. His free hand tugged at my torn sleeve, exposing my shoulder. I struggled, but he was too strong. My heart raced as panic surged through me.
“Let me go!” I screamed, thrashing wildly, but my voice echoed into the empty forest where no one would hear.
He pressed me against a tree, his breath foul against my face.
“Stop fighting. You’ll like it soon enough.”
His hand moved lower, and I felt bile rise in my throat. Desperation filled me as tears streamed down my cheeks. I clawed at his arm, but he only laughed.
And then… he stopped.
His eyes widened in shock as blood bubbled from his mouth. He collapsed at my feet, lifeless.
The other rogues froze, their faces turning pale. Their leader was dead in an instant.
“Alpha Kael,” one of them whispered, his voice trembling. “He’s here…”
“Run!” another shouted, and they scattered into the night, their fear overwhelming.
My entire body shook as I slowly turned. My breath caught in my throat.
A man stood in the shadows, tall, broad-shouldered, his eyes glowing faintly in the moonlight. His presence was overwhelming. He walked toward me with calm steps, his gaze never leaving mine.
My chest rose and fell rapidly. My lips parted on instinct, and before I could stop myself, a single word slipped out in a shaky whisper.
“Mate?”
KAEL’S POV“Elena… stay with us. Please stay…”My voice shook. I didn’t care who heard it.She lay on the infirmary bed, completely still, her skin so pale it scared me. Her lips had almost no colour. Her breathing was shallow and weak.Leon stood on the other side of the bed, hands clenched so tightly his knuckles were white. His eyes wouldn’t leave her face, not even for a second.Zane stood near the foot of the bed, silent. His eyes were glassy.Ethan stood behind him, rubbing his face over and over like he was trying not to fall apart.Darius was quiet, too quiet. Aria was beside him, shaking, tears running uncontrollably.Nyra stood further behind them, hands clasped together, her expression stiff and awkward—like she was trying to pretend she cared. The old physician looked exhausted and scared. He finally found the courage to speak.“Alpha… her blood is contaminated.”Leon stepped forward immediately. “Contaminated by what? Speak clearly.”The physician swallowed hard. “By the
Elena’s POV“I knew you were here,” Kael’s voice was calm but annoyingly amused. “You didn’t have to sneak into my library, love.”I tried to pull away, but he only tightened his hold slightly, like he was enjoying this way too much.I swallowed. “Let me go.”He chuckled. “You even wore all black? Elena. Really?”My face heated instantly. I pushed again, harder this time, and he actually loosened his grip. I slipped out of his arms, taking a step away. He was still smiling like I was the funniest thing he’d seen all year.“What am I going to do with you now?” he asked, crossing his arms as he watched me.“I’ll be leaving. So… bye, Alpha.” I turned. He caught my wrist—not hard, just enough to stop me.“Damn it, Elena… Why are you acting so distant?” His voice dropped. “We have something, don’t we?”“No,” I said immediately. For a second, he looked like someone punched him.His brows pulled together. “Are you insecure? Jealous? Or just… not interested anymore?” He stepped closer, his v
Elena’s POVKael stood there, staring at me. His face held nothing. No anger. No warmth. Nothing.“What’s going on here?” he asked.Nyra immediately burst into louder fake crying.“I was greeting her,” she said. “I was just trying to get to know her. She slapped me. Look at my face, Kael. Look how red it is.”She pointed at her cheek dramatically. The guards stared between us, confused. They also looked worried.Kael walked toward me slowly.I swallowed. I wasn’t going to look scared. Not in front of her.He stopped right in front of me.I stared back at him.“I don’t care if she’s your first mate,” I said. “I don’t regret what I did. If she disrespects me again, I’ll do it again.”Everyone went still.Even the guards shifted like they expected Kael to explode.Nyra smirked a little through her fake tears like she expected Kael to explode.Kael stepped closer, grabbed my hand, and lifted my palm. His eyes darkened immediately.“How many times have I warned you,” he said, “not to hurt
Elena’s POV“I am,” Leon said.“I don’t want company,” I replied immediately. “I want to be alone.”He stepped closer and squatted in front of me like he didn’t hear me. “It’s okay.”He reached out and patted my head.I jerked away. “Don’t do that. Just go.”The heat pushed up my throat and my eyes stung. I blinked fast, but the tears still slipped out.“Elena,” he murmured, ignoring everything I said. He leaned in and wrapped an arm around me, pulling me into a slow but firm hug. His palm rubbed my back.“Everything is okay. Kael doesn’t deserve you. I'll make you forget his name.”I stiffened. His heartbeat was loud. Too loud. He felt too warm.I pulled back. “I didn’t ask you.”I stood up quickly and took a step away, but he grabbed my wrist and dragged me right back into his space.“Elena,” he said roughly. “Kael had his chance to make you happy. He couldn’t. Now it’s my turn…”“I’m not a game,” I snapped. His jaw clenched. His eyes darkened.“You’re not a game. You’re the only t
Kael’s POVI sat in the library, the atmosphere still warm from Elena’s body, her scent, sweat, sex, and that faint vanilla she always wore, wrapped around me like a blanket. My pulse hadn’t slowed since we’d collapsed together. I could still see her eyes, wide and glassy when I thrust deep, her lips trembling as she moaned my name, “Kael… please…” Her face when she came, cheeks flushed, mouth open, trusting me completely. I love her so damn much it hurts. The way her pussy clenched around me, the way she squirted on my face, shy but begging for more. I could still feel her tits in my hands, her ass bouncing as she rode me, her beautiful needy eyes. I was already planning to sneak into her room tonight, pin her down, and fuck her until she screamed again.I ran a hand through my hair, half smiling. I hadn’t felt this alive in years. I wanted to go to her immediately. Tonight. I didn’t care what the moon or the world thought, she was mine.A knock broke through my thoughts.“Alpha,”
Elena's POV.“I have something to tell you.”Darius’s voice was serious. Too serious. For a moment, I just stood there holding the door, blinking like I didn’t hear him right.“Uh… what?” I asked, my voice shaky.“I need to talk to you, Elena,” he said again, softer this time. “Can I come in?”My instinct screamed no. The last thing I needed was to be trapped in my room with him. “Uh… maybe let’s just go outside,” I said quickly. “Take a little walk. Fresh air’s good for the brain, right?”He smirked like he knew I was trying to avoid being alone with him. “Fine. Let’s go.”We walked out together, the evening breeze brushing against my face. I couldn’t stop overthinking. What does he want to say? Why that tone?“So… how’s Aria?” I asked, breaking the silence. He stopped walking. “She’s fine,” he said, then turned to me. “Thanks to you.”Before I could even reply, his eyes softened. “I’m really grateful, Elena. You saved her. She’s the only family I have left, and for a moment, I thou
