Kara’s POV.

I couldn’t sleep.

It was somewhere between five and six in the morning, and I had given up sleeping after spending the night waking up from nightmare after nightmare. Every time I closed my eyes and slipped into sleep, the various demons of my life came to torment me. Unknown strangers ransacking my home, Jade threatening me, Derrick obsessing over me, stalking me and making my life hell…all of them were in my nightmares.

It took me a while to get used to waking up in a strange room every single time. I’ve never stayed over at Axel’s house before, although I had been there multiple times. Axel’s place was classy, but homy too.

Like, it could look like it just materialized out of a Interior Design magazine if not for all the personal touches Axel has added, like his luxurious red leather couch, all the weird ornaments, collectibles and whimsical gadgets he’s got hung up on walls and placed orderly on shelves as well as all the other things that added a special Axel touch to

  • Two Months Before Leaving You   Chapter-66

    Kara’s POV.I woke up with a pain in the back of my head, and panic overtook my mind, because it felt a lot like the time when I woke up in a hospital after surviving a house fire.Fortunately, though, this time, I didn’t have any vision problems, or at least, I didn’t think so. It was hard to be certain thanks to the possible painful concussion I had, and since I was in a dark room.But when I finally calmed down, I realized that I couldn’t move.Even though I wasn’t much of an outdoors kind of girl, I knew how a rope felt. I was seated on a chair, which explained the pain in my neck and spine, and I was tied to it.Oh, God. Even before the memories finally came, I knew what was happening.“Where am I?!” I cried out. “W-who are you? What’s going on?! Help!”“Boss lady, she’s awake,” a voice said before I could work myself into a full panic. It filled the silence of the dark room. It was a male voice with some sort of regional accent, and the voice echoed. “What do you want to do?”“T

  • Two Months Before Leaving You   Chapter-65

    Kara’s POV. My realization made it harder to live with Axel, but at the same time, I didn’t want to leave him.It was just so fun living with him, even when my heart was constantly yearning for him. He did his level best to take my mind off everything that was happening to me, and took it upon himself to educate me on all the movies that he thought I needed to be educated on(because I wasn’t that much of a movie fan and being in the orphanage was not conducive to keeping up with all the best releases of the decade).I found out that while he was many things, a good cook he was not, so I took it upon myself to teach him. That led us to cooking dinner together whenever we weren’t too tired and ordering takeout.Being with him was comfortable. I didn’t have to think twice about my thoughts with him; I didn’t have to worry about being mocked or called stupid when I said that I didn’t understand something. I didn’t have to watch my every move so as not to offend him.And more than anythin

  • Two Months Before Leaving You   Chapter-63

    Axel’s POV.I basically raced to Kara’s apartment when I got the call.My heart was racing the whole way, and I couldn’t believe it. Everything had been so normal when she left, and because she left with her neighbors, I hadn’t even been worried about her security. When I got her call, I thought she’d dropped her keys or something.But no. Her home had been broken into.I hated the fact that Kara’s happiness had been destroyed just like that. She was barely holding back tears when she called. I’ve never heard her so scared, not even when she’d been accosted by her ex. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact she was still not fully sober, but still!As if it wasn’t enough for her to have gone through so much trauma before coming to Newport city, life had to be cruel to her yet again.When I arrived at her apartment complex, I made my way to her neighbor’s home, where she was staying. It wasn’t the same ones who joined us to celebrate but a kind old lady who always invited us to te

    Kara’s POV.The door was open.When I inspected the lock, I realized that it had been broken.My lock was broken, and my door was open. Someone had broken into my home while I was away.I scrambled away from the door and rushed to find the security guard in charge of my building, Malcolm.“Malcolm!” I cried out as soon as I found him, pacing the length of the ground floor. As soon as he heard my voice, he turned, ready to greet me. But then he saw the expression on my face.“Miss. Brady, what’s wrong?!”“You need to come with me right now; someone broke into my apartment!”Malcolm was quick to follow through as soon as he heard this. He got his gun and called upon the other security guard, Grady, and the three of us went upstairs to my apartment. Throughout the trip, they swore that they were watching CCTV footage the whole time they were in the security room, and no one saw anything suspicious. My building had pretty good security, so I was inclined to believe them.As soon as they s

    Kara’s POV.“To Jesse!”The whole room cried after Axel, an entire bar room filled with people I didn’t know from Adam, half of them dancing just a few feet away from us and sloshed to their cores.I didn’t even know if any of them were aware of who they were toasting for, or what they were cheering for! But still, they gave it their best, and hearing so many people chanting my name, even if it was the fake one, made me laugh with happiness.I didn’t know I could feel so much joy.There was a whopping fifteen grand sitting in my bank account, transferred just that morning. As per our agreement, Sean’s gallery took about 30% of the revenue generated per painting. Normally, galleries would take about 50% but not Sean Hammon, who cared more about giving budding artists a platform than filling his own pockets.Amateur paintings like mine normally went for less than $ 3,000, but somehow Sean had managed to sell mine for $ 8,300, which was mind-blowing. I had no idea how the man managed it;
