Aurora's POV
"Omega?" He scoffed, his tone hinting disbelief. I bet detecting an omega was easy peasy to him since he was a Lycan. They had so many abilities making them almost supernatural.
With his back turned on me, I watched as he tapped his left foot gently against the wooden floor.
“Are you that desperate?" He asked. I could barely complete my breathing cycle when he appeared right in front of me causing my breath to hitch against my throat.
With his fingers drawing the outline of my jaw, he had his hot gaze on me as he took in my features while I counted my heartbeat which was erratic.
"You're scared.” He mouthed.
Veering backwards, I wiped the spot his fingers had made contact with.
Locking gaze with him, I huffed, "Let me go already, okay. I have no business here, I belong to the slave institution and not the exalted position of a Queen” I said in a breath, my full gaze on him.
"You claim to be an omega but you don't act like one.” He chuckled.
Instantly, I broke eye contact and then began to fiddle with my fingers.
“You're mine and I'm the only one who has the authority to determine where you will stay." Leaning in, he whispered, “You’ll stay by my side, I won't let you wander off."
Taking a deep breath, I pushed a hand into my hair only to start chewing on my fingers.
Parting his lips, he wanted to speak but I beat him to it.
“You got it wrong." I spat at him. The fierceness in my eyes must have made him conclude on my identity as an Alpha female.
I could see it in his eyes and demeanour but I shoved it aside.
Who knows if it was my imagination and not what I thought it was?
“I make decisions for myself. Even though I’m an omega, I won't be looked down on." With a voice barely above a whisper, I added, "I refuse to be treated like I’m weak."
“Then stay." He snapped, crossing his hands on his chest.
Against my wish, I went mute for a while as I contemplated my next move. I can't afford to be rejected the third time.
“On one condition." I finally said.
“Yes, my lady. Whatever your condition is, I will do my best to abide by it." His words were followed with a scoff and another lengthy silence but he was patient with me.
“I will stay if only you teach me how to be strong."
“Is that all?"
“Yes."
Amused, he laughed aloud.
“All the while I was thinking you were going to ask me to promise not to leave your side but it turns out you want to be strong.” He chuckled.
“Is it funny?" I huffed, clenching my fists by my side. “As an omega, I need to be fiercely strong so I can survive here…”
"Stop lying to yourself. You aren't an omega, you know that.”
Flashing a smile at me, he turned around and with Silva by his side, they headed straight for the door, the intensity of my gaze burning through his skin.
"You didn't give your response.” I yelled after them but he didn't bother responding to me.
Furious, I found myself hurrying after him only to halt when a lady accosted him. She looked imposing so at once I knew it was best if I stayed away.
“Why?" She snarled.
“Why have you decided to desecrate the seat of the Queen by having an omega sit on it?" She yelled, stomping angrily.
“She is my mate." His tone was calm but at the same time firm and possessive.
“I can't sit back and watch the seat of the Luna desecrated. An omega has no place in the palace of an Alpha, not to mention the Lycan King."
With a determined voice, she added, "This is not going to happen, I’m going to see to that.”
She sounded like a threat; my wolf wasn't going to accept that so it growled in anger.
Folding my hands behind my back, I soothed it, while controlling myself at the same time not to flare up.
“You should choose your words carefully," Silva said to the fuming lady.
“Don't tell me you support his decision."
“Miller, enough. Return to your quarters this instant." He snarled at her, steering her in the opposite direction but she was adamant.
“I'm not leaving yet."
Shifting her focus back to Asher, she smirked, "You know the elders will never allow this."
"Why?”
"A slave can't be the Queen of this pack. We will rather go on not having a Queen than to allow a slave brought in for auction to rule over us.”
I clenched my jaw but said no words.
"The elders don’t get to decide who the moon goddess mates to the King. Only the moon goddess do, and she had chosen the perfect mate for our King." Silva's words slided smoothly from his tongue like he had planned it beforehand.
"The elders don't have the authority to choose a destined mate for the King but they do have a say when it comes to the strength of our clan.” Miller countered.
“Who knows if she is sent to the Kingdom to strip off everything we have worked for?" She huffed, stamping her foot against the wooden floor.
I was tempted to counter her words but Gem held me back. I was right when I said I needed to be strong to be able to survive.
“You aren't acting this way because she came into the pack as a slave." Asher said, placing his hand on her shoulder only for her to wince in pain.
“Don't get ahead of yourself, so you won't get into trouble."
With that said, she quickly scurried in the opposite direction.
Moments later, he cleared his throat and immediately, I snapped my head in his direction, wondering what it was this time around.
"Tell me, what did you hear?" He asked, eyes locked on Silva.
"The council is going to accept her.” He mouthed and immediately, my heart fell into my stomach with a thud.
Why?
They shouldn't have rejected me right away?
Why are they making things difficult for me?
"With no condition?” Asher sounded amused and this piqued my attention again.
"She has to pass the background check. We need to be clear on her identity before anything else."
Ugh!
This is getting more serious than I thought.
Biting my lower lips, I moved away from my hiding place, my heart slamming furiously against my chest.
"I bet you have something to hide, Omega.” He said and the moment I raised my head, he was standing right in front of me, a mocking smile on his face.
"I bet this is the chance you have been waiting for.”
Grabbing my arm, he leaned forward, locking eyes with me, "If it turns out your presence here is suspicious, I will kill you myself.”
My blood turned to ice at once but I didn't flinch.
“Otherwise, you will remain by my side."
Even after he left, I couldn't stop glaring at the spot he was standing a while ago, my whole body covered with cold sweat.
Aurora’s POVBackground check? What have I gotten myself into? I should have just remained unconscious until after the auction, that way, we wouldn't have crossed paths and I wouldn't be in this mess. Digging my fingers into my palms, I began to pace about in circles, my head running haywire with different thoughts. My father's birthday party must be ongoing now. My presence is not needed so there was no point putting a hold to it.Exhaling, I placed my back against the cold wall, practicing breathing exercises to calm my raging nerves. What in heaven's name is the moon goddess up to? She gave me two mates who rejected me without having a second thought only to hand me over to the third one who had refused to reject me. From what I heard, he is the Lycan King. Why will the Lycan King accept an Omega when what he needs is a female Alpha to rule by his side.Wait! Pushing my hand forward with my head tilted to the side, I tried to speak but I couldn't piece together the puzzle
Reader's POV At the end of the meeting, Miller stormed out of the palace and went straight home, kicking everything on her path ignoring anyone who tried to speak to her. “You have to calm down." Stefan, the ex beta and her father said, arranging the glasses that perched his nostrils. “Calm down?" She huffed, turning around in his direction as slowly as she could. “Asher was already getting things finalized for our wedding and then that wench came along. You think I will let this slide.Arranging his glasses, Stefan tossed the paper he was reading on the table before locking eyes with his daughter. Studying her carefully, he said no word. "Aren't you going to say anything?” "Calm down.” "It hurts, I understand that fully. You were almost getting conferred as the Queen but then the gracious moon goddess brought his mate to him…” "Don't make me laugh.” She huffed, hands crossed on her chest. "Even if everyone believes the tale, not you, father.” "All these while, he had been p
Aurora's POV Since I heard about the South Faction, I haven't been in my right frame of mind. I had overheard the maids talking about it, else, I had no idea what Asher was up to.Pacing about my chambers, I felt my heart shredding into pieces. Life was literally seeping from me with each passing second. Plopping on the couch, I buried my head into my hand, brainstorming on the possible reasons why Asher decided to shove me into the wolf lair. “Tell me, have the rumors been confirmed by the council?" I asked Mira, my maid. “Yes, my Lady. The announcement was made this evening in the council hall.” She affirmed. Grabbing the arm of the couch, I tried all I could not to yell my lungs out. My eyes were burning with tears and my heart beat was becoming erratic. Since it came to my notice, I had been waiting for Asher to come to my chambers. From what I heard, the south faction was the second largest faction and most powerful in the pack. They were responsible for the pack’s wealth
Aurora's POV Two weeks had gone by, yet I still wasn't used to my new position as the Queen. The mating ceremony and rites were completed a few days ago and now, I had been mandated to assume my position as the head of the south faction. My responsibilities were staring in my face and I had nowhere to turn to; I had to face them head-on. Putting the last clip to hold my hair in place, I swirled around, locking eyes with Asher who was resting against the door. Startled, I grabbed my chest. “What are you doing here?" “I was admiring you." He mouthed, walking further into the room with a brown envelope in hand. “Where is your maid, isn't she supposed to help you get dressed?" Rolling my eyes, I said nothing to him. The last time I checked, I was not handicapped, also, I wasn't comfortable having maids around me. It restricts me from doing a lot of things. Back home, I didn't have the luxury of having a maid, maybe that explains why. “I’m not okay watching you do everything yo
Aurora's POVFor a moment, Palmer couldn't say a word. No doubt, he clearly wasn't expecting my reaction. “Are you being serious right now?" He finally broke the silence. “Yes." I affirmed. “I need your books, I should start with yours." Fuming, he stormed out of my office, slamming the door shut as Elder Garrick waddled to my side, fear evident in his eyes. “You just got yourself into a deep mess." He ratted out. “Apart from the council, no one else recognizes you as the Queen." He added, his tone shaky. "What do you suggest I do?”"Be the leader but don't do anything. That way, you will be safe, you won't have any reason to be worried.” With my hands resting on my waist, I began to pace about in circles. Indeed, the news I heard about the South faction was true. "He says if I manage to handle this duty efficiently, then I’m as strong as he is.” I mumbled, tilting my head to the side. "I won't do that.” I announced, watching his eyes widen. Aurora's POVThe world paused for a moment. The air was thick with the scent of blood which kept seeping from the deep gash Asher had withdrawn his dagger from. Since arrival at the pack, I had seen a lot of things, but nothing had prepared me for this. It came as a rude awakening I was still trying to understand . Asher had his back on me, his broad shoulders were squared, and the dagger which was still dripping with the man’s blood was dangling in the air. “I was going to apologize publicly." The dying man spoke with difficulty only to spit out blood the next second. Grabbing his bleeding side with both hands, he slid through the wall to the floor, choking on his last breath with his eyes widened with disbelief. He is dead. — The realization hit me, causing my breath to hitch against my throat. Slowly, I took my eyes from the man, shifting my gaze to Asher who was still staring at the corpse at his feet. This wasn't the same Asher I had grown accustomed to, he wasn't the one w
Asher’s POVBefore now, I had already predicted Aurora's reaction. I had refused to relay the message to her when her father first informed me because I wasn't sure I would be able to handle her.Her position as the next Alpha had never been a threat to me like she had insinuated. I had no reason to feel intimidated by it because she was in the same position just like I was.As for the cookies Scarlet had sent through a maid, I already knew she was going to refuse it with the excuse it was poisoned. It was the typical Aurora, my own Aurora that I could read through like she was a book.Doubling over while clutching my stomach, just like I had expected, she began to panic. At first, it was mild but when I won't stop coughing while clutching my stomach firmly, she grabbed my shoulder.“A-Asher?! What’s wrong?!” She ratted out, trying to make me sit upright. “I think I have been poisoned." I managed to say without bursting into laughter. She had been rigid since we returned, I just wan
Aurora's POVSeated next to Asher in the car, I had my gaze out of the window, my head was running with different thoughts that I felt it was going to blow up the next second. Pressing my lips into a thin line, I tried not to think too much about what had happened back there but I couldn't."I already pledged my support to you, why are you still bothered?” Asher asked only to intertwine his fingers with mine the next second."It's sudden…" “What do you think about it? I want you to be sincere with me." I cut in, locking eyes with him. “Nothing." He shrugged but I didn't believe him a bit. One of the major reasons I had delayed telling him about being an Alpha breed was this. I was scared that he would feel intimidated but that was settled. And now, I was the heir to the throne, even if he had been suppressing his feelings, I doubt if he will be able to keep up with it now. “Aren't you intimidated?" I ratted out. Before he could respond, I leaned forward, folding my hands on my t
Reader's POVClenching her fists by her side, Scarlet let out an ear splitting scream only to start pacing about as she seethed in anger. It was at this moment that Emma rushed into Aurora’s room and then pulled her out to stop Scarlet from creating a scene.“Mom, are we going to sit back and do nothing?" She yelled, pushing her hand into her hair only to start tugging on it. Placing her back on the wall, she let out a low sigh, “Father called her here to inform her of his decision of making her the next Alpha. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" “All the while he was feigning to be siding with us but he has a sinister plan. He was trying to protect her instead while grooming her to become the next ruler. No wonder he went out of his way to save her back at the Lycan Kingdom and now…” "You should get married to Jake quickly.” Emma suggested. "Why should I?” Scarlet huffed, searching her mother's face for a response but it was unreadable. "I have to be certain I will take over th
Aurora's POVIt was awkward as this was the first time Scarlet was offering to take a walk with me.Unsure of how to react, I kept staring at both of them until Scarlet walked up to me and then intertwined her hand with mine.“Come on, let's get going." She chirped. “The chef will be able to prepare her favorite food, right?" She asked Emma who nodded. "Grilled chicken and French fries, right?” She asked but I shook my head in the negative, she got it wrong. She never knew my best food as I haven't said it to her and Jake wouldn't be so bored to tell her the little things he knew about me. “Steak and mashed potatoes." I muttered and almost immediately, Emma disappeared through the door, leaving me with Scarlet. Tugging my arm, she kept pulling me towards the door. We walked through the long corridor in silence.I was uncomfortable and wanted to wriggle away but I felt she was going to misinterpret my intentions, that which I don't want. When we got to the library which was my hid
073Aurora’s POVFixing my last piece of jewelry on my neck, I took one last look at my reflection in the mirror before shifting my gaze to Asher who had been staring. “How do I look?" I asked, a bright smile plastered on my lips. “Beautiful, as always." He commented, pulling me to himself with a hand and caressing my cheek with the other. “I want you to keep looking this way every single day." He added, eliciting a little laugh from me. Leaning in, he planted a soft kiss on my forehead and the next minute, a low knock came through.“I think my new Beta is here." He announced, pulling away from me. “New Beta?" I was surprised as it was barely twenty four hours since Miller was appointed. “Uhm… I can't put up with Miller, so I have to make a random choice.” He shrugged. "You know Talen, right?” "Yeah.” I nodded, straightening the edges of my gown. "He is my new Beta.” Nodding, a little smile spread across my lips. I was glad that Miller wouldn't be anywhere near him. He must h
Reader’s POVTossing her cutlery on the table, Scarlet leaned backwards, chewing on her beef angrily. She had just received the most heartbreaking news from one of the maids when she asked why her father hadn't joined them on the table. The maid had informed her that Alpha Simone was expecting Aurora in the pack house that day and so she was livid.Tossing another beef in her mouth, she began to chew on it again, biting her tongue in the process. In anger, she tossed her plate across the table only to start pacing about while Jake and Emma looked on.The moment Jake was informed he had to be somewhere else, he didn't wait to finish his breakfast, he rushed out.Dramas from Scarlet were always draining and so he tried all he could to avoid them. While Scarlet paced the length o
Aurora’s POVStanding behind Asher's study door, I was fiddling with my finger, trying to come up with the perfect words to say to him.Just this morning, a message had come through Mira, informing me my father had requested for my presence. It sounded urgent that I wanted to go see him right away but I couldn't. I didn't want to do anything without speaking to Asher first.Taking a deep breath, I connected my fist to the door. “Come in.” Asher said, his voice deep and commanding as ever.Once again, I exhaled and then pushed open the door, stepping inside and immediately I froze.Miller was there and as if that was not enough, she was standing a little too close to Asher and he wasn't pushing her away either. A strange, sharp feeling stabbed into my chest as a wave of emotion hit me.Jealousy, insecurity? I had no idea. I didn't move further into the room, I just stood there, my heart twisting painfully as I tried to act neutral. "Am I interrupting?" I asked lightly, unable to hi
Aurora’s POVClosing the door gently behind him, he made his way into my room, halting right next to the window, his gaze on me but he said no words. Pulling my legs together, I sat stiffly on the edge of my bed, arms folded across my chest as I stared at the wall like it had offended me. “Aurora.” He called, startling me a bit but I didn't show. “Talk to me.” He pressed on.Instead of responding, I began to sulk, refusing to meet his gaze.Closing the distance between us, he said, “Ignoring me won’t fix whatever’s brewing in that head of yours.”I clenched my jaw at his words, still refusing to meet his eyes. Now crouching in front of me, he lowered himself until he locked eyes with me.“What happened?” He asked, his tone softer than before. “Is it about Miller?”Against my wish, I let out a shaky breath.I hated that he could read me so easily, I hated how exposed it made me feel. It was like he could peel away every layer I tried to wrap around myself.“I’m sorry.” He muttered ,
Reader’s POVIn excitement, Stefan forgot about the purpose of his meeting with Asher so he returned home, beaming with excitement.Suspicious, Miller couldn't help but ask the reason for his mood and when he did tell her, she was all over the moon with excitement. She could barely sit still as her father's words replayed in her ears. “The moon goddess is definitely on our side. Just when it seems I wouldn't be able to have Asher to myself, another opportunity pops up." Miller exclaimed while her father looked on, beaming with a smile. “You can say that again but still… I'm a bit skeptical.” He muttered, hands crossed on his chest. Pulling close to her father, Miller leaned forward, her hands grabbing the edge of her seat. "Why? Did he say something else?” She asked, her gaze fixated on him."Not really but… he acted like the idea didn't sit well with him. Soon, he is going to find a replacement for you, I could see it in his eyes and the way he acted."For a moment, Miller didn'
