We were very close to Vortex. I could feel it in my heart that something was amiss in that pack but I didn’t want to let my emotions control me.

Instead, I looked for a path in the forest, and while Aidan went forward and entered the pack’s entrance. Many might argue that Aidan has lost his mind ever since the day we pulled Alpha Drey away from his consciousness, but beneath that confused personality was the boy I grew up loving and admiring.

He was still there and he only showed his true self to me. Even now, he was proving me right and was already handling things so well. If he was truly deranged like everyone else said, I doubt he would’ve been able to make it this far.

I stopped, watching him as he went forward and approached a strange-looking man at the entrance to Vortex. The man had a distinct eye color – it was purple, but something about it made me feel uneasy. He had a smile constantly on his face that only went away when he wasn’t talking to someone.
