Never live it down

Seana

Vortex was just as I expected. It had large buildings everywhere, the streets were busy, the food was nothing I'd tried before, and even the way they dressed was different. It was so different from the other packs under my father, everything was much smaller, more humble, and a lot quieter.

Seeing Vortex's development made me feel bad for my parents. They did good to Vortex only for Vortex to use it to enrich themselves. I'll never know how they took my father's powers and used them for their progress but… I have to admit what they've done with this place is impressive.

“ Okay kiddo, this is your school. It's late, so you'll just have to get signed in and go to bed - no explorations of any kind!” Dave said to me while I nodded enthusiastically.

I got out of the car and stared at the large blue and cream building before me. The name of the school was inscribed beautifully on the front and even the flowers were pruned to form the name of the school.

As I started towards the entrance, I recalled everything Dad told me and exhaled before I entered the school and went to speak to who I believed was the receptionist.

“ Hello, I'm Shona McCall. I have just resumed, and I was hoping I could access my accommodation tonight,” I said while the plump lady gave me a lazy look and flipped through the pages of her note. Suddenly she looked at me, this time with surprise evident on her face.

“ Your eyes…they're gold. That's a pretty color. Where are you from?” She asked.

“ Bloom pack ma'am,” I said while she nodded.

“ That…surprising. Anyway, your room is 7B on the third floor. Get settled in and make sure you put your phone in this bag before going up there,” she said, and I did exactly as she directed.

When I got to room 7b, I slotted my card and entered the room. No one was inside. For some reason, that made me uncomfortable, but I closed the door, had my bath again, and tried to force myself to sleep because it would be a long day ahead of me tomorrow, and even I don't think I was ready for it.

*******

“ Who the hell is that?” I heard someone say just as I started to wake up.

“ Noelle! I thought you said you didn't have a roommate!” The person said again.

“ She wasn't here when I came two days ago, that's not my fault!” The one that must've been Noelle said.

“ Well, that's ridiculous. I was going to move in.”

“ Well, all we have to do is convince her to bunk with that annoying girl instead. So, you can still be my roommate.”

“ Of course, I'm still going to be your roommate. You're not getting rid of me so easily,”

Before I could think about my next move, one of them rudely pulled away my blanket and gave me a fake smile. But her smile slowly began to fade when she saw my face.

“ What the fu…who are you? I don't think I've seen you here before.” The one who pulled my blanket away asked, she had green eyes and long, blonde hair. The other one was also blond, but she had blue eyes.

“ It says here that her name is Seana… I think,” the shorter one said.

“ You think? Can't you read? Give me that!” She said, grabbing my school ID and throwing the blanket on my face.

Who are those girls, even? They're so rude? Please tell me I didn't get paired up with the school bitches!

“ It does say, Seana. That's…well forget it. Now, Seana, listen you're going to have to leave this…” the green-eyed one started to say, but I could not focus on what she was saying because I could see that my name tag actually had Seana McCall instead of Shona McCall and that just made me afraid. I was supposed to write Shona! What was I thinking? Or did the receptionist mess up my name?!

“ Are you even listening to me right now?”

“ I think she's not Sara.”

So that was her name, Sara. Well, I'm not exactly the type to take bullshit from anyone, but seeing as I don't have much strength as a wolf or even in controlling my powers, I should play it safe.

“ I said you have to leave this room!” She barked at me but I didn't flinch.

“ Sure… I'll leave when I'm leaving for school, of course, not because some Barbie wannabe asked me to,” I said, contradicting my earlier thought to play it safe.

“ What did you call me?”

“ Please, just go. You're acting like a child right now. So what? You can't live without each other? Clingy much?” I kept going and that hit the nerve.

“ Clingy? You wish. I don't even like this musty room, good luck in here with her Noelle. And you, I'll deal with you, you just wait!” She hissed before she left the room. Noelle glared at me before she followed Sara out of the room.

With a proud smile, I hopped out of my bed and decided to get into the shower to have my bath. But as I was getting my toiletries out of my bag, I observed the room. The walls were turquoise with silver-shaped stars scattered here and there on the walls.

I didn't notice them much yesterday because I was tired and stressed out, but now that I did, I kind of found the room cozy. The curtains were white though. I wasn't sure about that, but I planned on making my side of the room more like me.

After having my bath, I looked in the mirror beside my bed and I went over my outfit one more time. I put on a simple, short, black gown and red sneakers. I also let my waves be for today. They gave my hair a certain volume that I liked and, honestly, I had so much hair that straightening it was too much of a task.

My makeup was pretty natural and my accessories, as always, were over the top. That to me was a perfect way to dress for class, so with an enthusiastic nod, I grabbed my handbag and made sure my notes were intact before doing a last-minute cologne party all over my body.

The second I stepped out of my room and entered the hall of girls and boys who had also just left their rooms, all eyes were on me.

“ Damn, who is she?”

“ I heard she transferred from Bloom pack, she's hot.”

“ She's hotter than the Bitchy sisters. That's actually insane.”

I smirked as I heard all these comments about me. I haven't lost my touch. I'll always be talked about wherever I go.

“ Hello beautiful,” a tall guy with brown hair and blue eyes said to me. Since he was handsome, I shot him a faint smile. He was standing with another guy, who had the same features as him, but he just wasn't as tall.

“ I'm Nick and he's Terry.”

“ Cool,” I said.

“ You seem new here, and your eyes are…so damn beautiful, they're gold - I've never seen gold eyes before,”

“ Damn you started great dude, now you're just rambling. Look, sweetheart, what he means to say is, if you need anything, we're your guys,” Terry said to me.

“ Sure. I don't think I need anything though,” I said, while Terry smiled. He was a lot more handsome than his taller friend.

“ So what pack did you transfer from? Everyone's been coming to Vortex Pack for a taste of special abilities.” Nick asked.

“ I'm from Myst- I mean Bloom pack,” I said, then I bit my lips to scold myself for being too comfortable with these guys. If I hadn't stopped myself on time, I'd have been dead meat.

“ Bloom pack, they're so peaceful. Good thing I like Bloom girls,” Terry said while I just rolled my eyes at his flirting antics.

“ Yeah, Mystik girls are the worst,” Nick said, startling me.

“ I bet they're not that bad, none of us have actually seen one. Anyway, what's your name?”

“ I'm Shona,” I said simply, and they both looked at me from head to toe before smiling like idiots.

“ Well, Shona, I hope you have a good time at Vortex. Everyone does,” Terry said, still smiling at me. But his smile started to fade when he saw someone behind me.

“ Really Nick and Terry? You're already flirting with the newbie just because Ray-khan is away?” I heard Noelle say before she walked up to us. But it wasn't Noelle that made Terry's smile fade. It was the other one, Sara.

“ Where is he?” She demanded, brushing me aside with her shoulders so that she could face Terry. I scoffed and started to walk away, but Terry held me back.

“ Whoa, whoa chill. Don't go away,” he said to me.

“ Look, we're not Ray-khan's bodyguards,” Nick said.

“ Oh, but you are. You two are always with him, so tell me where is he?”

“ You act like he's your boyfriend. He won't even look your way.”

“ I don't care. Tell me where he went!”

“ Fine! Since you want to know so badly, he went to Mystik pack.”

“ What? To do what? Why would he go there?”

“ Oh, you see, he had this vision about his mate, and it seems she's from there. So, Sara, I think it's time for you to move on and go find your mate,” Terry said before he held me by my wrist and took me to class with him.

A lot of people tried to talk to me when I got to class and I genuinely wanted to vibe with them, but I couldn't. I couldn't get over the fact that Ray-khan, whom I'd been so excited about seeing, had gone to see his mate who happened to be from my pack! Who could his mate be?

I couldn't believe I was acting this way for a guy I'd only heard of and never seen. By the time the first three classes ended, I packed my things as quickly as I could so that Nick and Terry would stop following me, and then as I started to head out of the class, I slammed into something so hard, but I managed to still be on my feet.

“ Be careful Shona!” I heard Nick say. I was so annoyed with whoever it was that didn't even say a simple sorry, and I was going to say my mind, but the person I saw before me left me stunned.

He was tall, had purple eyes like purple hibiscus and his ebony hair was thick and lustrous, and his scent… I've never liked someone's scent this much. I was so intrigued by his chiseled jawline and his physique that I didn't even realize that I had almost touched him until he glared at me and said,“ What the fuck? Were you just trying to touch me?” and then he brushed past me, almost taking me down as he did so.

I didn't know who I had just met until Terry smiled at him and said,“ Ray-khan! Welcome back, my bro.”

I shut my eyes in embarrassment because I couldn't believe I drooled over him so shamelessly in front of everyone. I'll never live this down.
