“What?!”
I jolted down from the bed, staring down at the moon goddess with widened eyes as if she had just grown two horns.
“You have to be joking, Mother.”
The moon goddess sat gracefully at the edge of my bed, her legs crossed and her hands clasped together, her silver glow casting a calm radiance across the room. “Princess Kaima, do I look like I'm joking?”
I blinked, staring at the moon goddess for a second and saw that indeed she wasn't joking.
My brow furrowed, a deep scowl tugging on my face. “Mother, I don't understand why you're sending me to the Nightbane pack to watch after an Alpha. An Alpha should be capable of taking care of himself. In fact, if he can't protect himself, then how will he be able to protect his pack?!”
The moon goddess took a deep breath, her eyes filled with both patience and mystery. “Princess Kaima,” she called softly with a tender voice, “you're going to find out why, when you get to his pack. I'm telling you, he's nothing like the Alphas you know.”
I placed my hands on my hips, meeting the Moon goddess’ gaze. “And what's so different about him? Besides, I'm a lady, the Alpha might even end up saving me.”
The moon goddess chuckled, her voice a soft melody to the ear. “I doubt that Kaima, in fact you're already showing me that I made the right choice by picking you for this mission.”
I tilted her head, my lips parting slightly. “How so?” I asked, raising a brow.
The moon goddess pulled me gently to sit beside her. Her touch was warm, comforting, and it softened my resistance just a little. “You ask lots of questions Kaima. I already told you that you'll find out when you get to his pack.”
I turned my face away stubbornly, folding my arms like a child refusing to listen. “I don't want to go, Mother. Why don't you send any of my sisters?” After all, I'm not your only descendant.”
“Thats the problem, Kaima,” the Moon goddess pressed, “yes, you're not my only descendant but all your sisters are mated. They can't leave their mates and head off to another man's pack.”
“Exactly why I don't want to go! I want to stay here and find my mate.” I replied.
“Have you considered the fact that your mate might not be here?” The moon goddess asked.
My gaze snapped towards her. “Why not?” I asked suspiciously. “All my sisters found their mate here. Why should my own be any different?”
“Everyone's destiny isn't the same, my princess.” The moon goddess said softly.
“I don't want to be different,” I cut in. “I don't want to leave this pack. My life is here and my mate needs to come from here too.”
The moon goddess sighed, “Okay.”
“Okay? Just okay?” I asked.
“What else do you want me to say?”
“Can't you tell me who my mate is? If anybody should know, it's you.”
“Don't even go there Kaima. You know that's something I won't do.”
“Won't. Not can't. Please mother," I pleaded.
“Kaima, everyone needs to feel the thrill of finding their mate. It's like finally finding a lost treasure. You won't want to miss out on those feelings don't you?”
I pouted. “At this point, I don't even care. Even my younger sisters have all found their mates. I'm the only one left.”
Silence fell upon the room, then I turned, unable to bear the silence anymore.
“What's so special about him, mother?” I asked in a low voice, “...for you to come yourself, this must be very important.” I raised my eyes, locking gaze with the moon goddess, “Who's he truly?”
The moon goddess’ expression changed, a series of emotions flashing through them, and as soon as they came, they varnish.
“It's good you know this is very important to me. I will let you know everything in due time, but as for now, you need to get going.”
“What? So fast?” my eyes widened again in shock. “I'm not prepared. Nyx and I need to train and get ourselves ready at least. If we're going to be saving an Alpha, that means whatever we're saving him from must be very powerful.”
The moon goddess bit back a chuckle, amused. “ My dear princess, trust me you won't be needing that kind of training for this mission.”
“Then what do I need?”
“Hmm, let's see…” the moon goddess stood up and ran her divine eyes over me. “I think you will need some kind of disguise.”
“A disguise?”
The moon goddess nodded, placing a hand on her chin. “You will be going there as an Omega.”
“What?!” I exclaimed, almost falling off the bed.
“That's what is needed for your mission Kaima.”
“But…but what about Nyx? What's going to happen to her?” my voice trembled with concern.
“Nothing. She will still be with you. I'm only reducing her strength.”
What kind of mission is this? I wondered in my heart.
‘As long as we're still together, there's nothing to be afraid of.’ Nyx whispered soothingly in my mind. ‘Besides, mother won't send us to anything dangerous without making sure we're prepared.’
I nodded my head in agreement. That's true.
‘Who knows? What if the Alpha turns out to be our mate?” Nyx teased in excitement.
My eyes widened at that possibility.
Why haven't I thought of it? But then again… mother won't need to turn me into an Omega just to meet my mate. There's definitely more to this.
‘Yes, but she's currently not saying anything. Typical of her. We need to find out on our own.’
“If you do this right Kaima,” the moon goddess' voice rang out, drawing me back from my dialogue with Nyx, “...maybe…just maybe, you might finally find your mate.”
“Really?” my heart skipped, my eyes sparkling in excitement. “Oh thank you mother. I definitely won't fail this mission.” I was grinning now, stubbornness momentarily forgotten.
The moon goddess placed a warm hand on my shoulder. “I know,” she smiled. Then her tone shifted, stronger and commanding. “Now get up and get moving!”
I jolted awake from my bed.
“God damnit!” I raked my hands through her hair.
Wait a minute.
Why do I feel…
“Nyx are you there?” I asked quickly.
“Uh-huh,” Nyx answered.
I heaved a sigh of relief, my lips curving into a small smile. So this is what it feels like to be an Omega.
My eyes glimmered with determination. “Let's see what the moon goddess has planned out for us. This is definitely going to be an adventurous mission.
I scooted off my bed, my small feet hitting the floor. “Let's get ready.”
“I wonder who this Alpha is.” I whispered to myself, my heart thrumming with curiosity as I packed a few belongings. “I've never heard of him.”
My eyes narrowed slightly, a mix of unease and excitement swirling inside of me.
And I wonder what he needs saving from.
KaimaThe castle didn’t look like anything I’d ever seen before. It looked like something built to intimidate. It was massive, towering over us, with pillars that looked like they were made from gold. Not dull gold—bright, polished, almost glowing. I wasn’t sure the word beautiful would even start to describe this place. It was magnificent in a way that made your chest tighten, the kind of beauty that reminded you just how small you were.As I slowly looked around, taking everything in, a strange feeling crept over me. A weird sense of déjà vu settled deep in my bones, like I had been here before. The feeling was so strong it made my head ache—but that made no sense. I had never been here. I would remember a place like this.If anyone had told me just a couple of days back that I would be standing in the underworld, staring at a castle like this, I would have laughed in their face. The man who had approached us earlier led the way, his steps calm and measured, not speaking a single wo
KaimaThe ground started moving, and at first I thought it was all in my head. The feeling was subtle, almost like a vibration under my feet. I tightened my hold on Nicholai instinctively, pressing closer to him, my heart racing. But it wasn’t only me who felt it.“Can you guys feel that?” Tara asked, her voice tight.“Tara… Tara,” I said, lifting my head from Nicholai’s chest, fear rising sharply. “Behind you.” I pointed, my finger shaking, to a portal forming behind her.Wind slammed into us like a tidal wave, so sudden it stole my breath. The ground shook violently, like a volcano was about to erupt beneath us. Pebbles lifted off the floor, spinning in the air as the pull intensified, dragging everything toward the swirling darkness.“What the hell is going on?” I yelled, my voice almost swallowed by the roaring wind.We all turned to Kyle, and for once, he looked just as shocked as we were. His brows furrowed deeply.“I don’t know. I’ve never heard of a portal opening in the labyr
NathanI hated this place so much. The deeper we went, the worse it became. The more we kept going, the weaker I felt, like something unseen was slowly draining me from the inside. It wasn’t physical exhaustion alone—it was heavier than that, sinking into my bones, into my head. It was like this place was subconsciously draining me, feeding on whatever strength I had left. And right now, all I wanted was to stop. To sit down. To breathe. But I couldn’t. We needed to find her. That thought alone forced my legs to keep moving, forced my breathing to stay even, even when my chest felt tight. Kyle walked a few steps ahead of me, completely unbothered. It was like this place had no single effect on him.“Hey,” Kyle said suddenly, glancing over his shoulder. “How are you holding up?”“I’m fine,” I answered quickly, too quickly. He gave me an amused look that annoyed the shit out of me. “Nathan, are you sure?”“Yeah,” I muttered, jaw tight. “Totally fine.”We kept walking, twisting into anot
NicholaiWe had been walking for so long it didn’t just feel like hours—it felt like years. My legs ached, my muscles burned, and my sense of direction had completely abandoned me. I was pretty sure we were going in circles, trapped in some cruel loop that refused to end.All we did was walk through another wall of bones and push ourselves through another narrow passage that led nowhere. The sound of our footsteps echoed strangely, as if the maze was mocking us. The air was suffocating and untouchable; it felt like this place didn’t know what fresh air was, like it had never existed here at all. I was tired of walking. Exhausted. But if we stopped, who knew what would come at us from the dark again. After a while, I stopped. My chest rose and fell unevenly as frustration finally boiled over.“There’s really no way out of this place, is there?”I turned to Tara, who looked like she’d been trying so hard not to pass out. Her face was pale, her steps unsteady, but she forced herself to
KaimaKyle looked frustrated as he kept looking around the endless stretch of darkness like just his stare would produce a magical door out of here.He ran a hand through his hair as if he wanted to rip it out of his skull. “No… no… this shouldn’t be happening. The portal was supposed to take us straight into the underworld. The portal shouldn’t link here unless—” he stopped.Nathan frowned. “Unless what?”Kyle looked at us as if contemplating what to say.“Unless what, Kyle?” Nathan snapped.“Nathan, take a look around. I’m very sure I’m not the only one feeling the energy this place radiates. In case it’s not clear to you, we are in one of the worst realms in all of existence. The labyrinth doesn’t just appear by accident. Someone diverted us into it on purpose.”My throat went dry.Who would do something like that, and why?Kyle continued pacing. “Only a powerful being could reroute a portal this way. Whoever did it wanted us lost—not just lost, but separated.”But then everything
NicholaiI woke up in suffocating darkness that pressed down on me like a living thing. My eyes strained but I didn’t see even a faint glimmer of light. My breath came in quiet bursts, my heart pounding against my chest.“Kaima,” I called her name, but no response. “Kaima,” I tried again, louder this time, still nothing. “Kaima, where are you?”I looked around. There was no single trace of her.“Kaima!” I yelled again, but still nothing.“Where… where the hell is everyone?” I whispered, looking around in plain darkness. Then I heard it, a soft pained cry somewhere to my right. It was Tara.“Tara… Tara?” I called out.Her weak trembling voice replied, “Nicholai…”I ran—or rather, I moved fast—towards her, my senses guiding me through the darkness. The air smelled of dust and decayed bones buried under centuries of sand. Then I saw her, half slumped on the ground, coughing, her chest heaving.“Tara,” I knelt down beside her. She was shaking, eyes wide with fear. When I helped her up, I
