Nicholai

We had been walking for so long it didn’t just feel like hours—it felt like years. My legs ached, my muscles burned, and my sense of direction had completely abandoned me. I was pretty sure we were going in circles, trapped in some cruel loop that refused to end.

All we did was walk through another wall of bones and push ourselves through another narrow passage that led nowhere. The sound of our footsteps echoed strangely, as if the maze was mocking us. The air was suffocating and untouchable; it felt like this place didn’t know what fresh air was, like it had never existed here at all.

I was tired of walking. Exhausted. But if we stopped, who knew what would come at us from the dark again.

After a while, I stopped. My chest rose and fell unevenly as frustration finally boiled over.

“There’s really no way out of this place, is there?”

I turned to Tara, who looked like she’d been trying so hard not to pass out. Her face was pale, her steps unsteady, but she forced herself to

KaimaKyle looked frustrated as he kept looking around the endless stretch of darkness like just his stare would produce a magical door out of here.He ran a hand through his hair as if he wanted to rip it out of his skull. “No… no… this shouldn’t be happening. The portal was supposed to take us straight into the underworld. The portal shouldn’t link here unless—” he stopped.Nathan frowned. “Unless what?”Kyle looked at us as if contemplating what to say.“Unless what, Kyle?” Nathan snapped.“Nathan, take a look around. I’m very sure I’m not the only one feeling the energy this place radiates. In case it’s not clear to you, we are in one of the worst realms in all of existence. The labyrinth doesn’t just appear by accident. Someone diverted us into it on purpose.”My throat went dry.Who would do something like that, and why?Kyle continued pacing. “Only a powerful being could reroute a portal this way. Whoever did it wanted us lost—not just lost, but separated.”But then everything

NicholaiI woke up in suffocating darkness that pressed down on me like a living thing. My eyes strained but I didn’t see even a faint glimmer of light. My breath came in quiet bursts, my heart pounding against my chest.“Kaima,” I called her name, but no response. “Kaima,” I tried again, louder this time, still nothing. “Kaima, where are you?”I looked around. There was no single trace of her.“Kaima!” I yelled again, but still nothing.“Where… where the hell is everyone?” I whispered, looking around in plain darkness. Then I heard it, a soft pained cry somewhere to my right. It was Tara.“Tara… Tara?” I called out.Her weak trembling voice replied, “Nicholai…”I ran—or rather, I moved fast—towards her, my senses guiding me through the darkness. The air smelled of dust and decayed bones buried under centuries of sand. Then I saw her, half slumped on the ground, coughing, her chest heaving.“Tara,” I knelt down beside her. She was shaking, eyes wide with fear. When I helped her up, I

KaimaMy fingers were trembling, and it felt like the guardian was staring straight into me, like I already knew the memory I feared losing the most.Nathan moved forward, almost shielding me with his body, but the thing didn't stop looking at me. It kept staring at me with those red eyes. And then it spoke."Especially you, celestial child. Your price must be higher."I didn't even get a chance to react when Nicholai moved, like he was about to fight with the guardian, but was stopped by Kyle."No," Nicholai growled, "she's not giving you anything."The guardian snapped his neck so fast toward Nicholai I thought it was about to fall off. Then he said, his voice low, "None shall pass, not even the dying wolf."Nathan stiffened beside me.The dying wolf—hearing it out loud made it feel realer than it already was.Nathan's voice was strained, like he hated the words that left his mouth. "Kaima... we don't have a choice."My throat felt so dry."But why me? Why do I have to give more tha

KaimaThe desert wind was dry, cold, and sharp. It brushed against my face as the camel moved slowly. I wasn't sure where the hell we were heading, but all I was seeing was sand, and it was endless. It was dark, but the moon was shining, lighting our path. We’d been riding for more than two hours now, and the silence just made everything worse.I pulled my shawl closer, shivering even though the air wasn't really that cold. Maybe it was fear. Who am I kidding? I knew it was fear, and it was eating deep inside of me.I looked up at the moon. I was wondering if Mother was watching over me. Since I came to New York she hadn't appeared to me, and right now I just wished she could give me my real strength. I hated being a weak omega, especially now.Kyle was ahead of me, and Nathan was right next to me, while Tara rode next to Nicholai. I was confused where exactly we were going because every direction looked the same—just an endless field of sand. Finally, the silence became too heavy, an

OliverI was tired. Not the kind of tired a good night’s rest fixed, no—this one sat inside of me, draining me inch by inch. At this point, I was more than exhausted.Nathan had been gone for days.Days, and I wasn't sure how long I could keep up with this. Everything fell into my hands, meetings, reports, patrol, pack disputes, and his damn company. I always knew being an alpha came with lots of responsibility, but watching Nathan, made it feel like anyone could do it; he made it so effortless. Now that I was sitting in his seat…I wondered how in hell he did it without losing his goddamn mind. But even with how much I tried to concentrate on the piles and piles of work, I just couldn't get her out of my mind. She'd barely spoken to anyone since Nathan left to God knows where. It was annoying how he just traveled without telling anyone where the hell he was going. And Elizabeth… she had become a shadow of herself, and that scared me.I got out of the office and headed to her room. I
