MATEO

The problem was that Elara never made mistakes.

At least not obvious ones.

That was why I was standing inside my office staring at Sofia.

She looked nervous.

Very nervous.

Her hands were clasped tightly in front of her and her shoulders were stiff. Sunlight streamed through the large windows behind me, lighting half of the room while leaving the rest in shadow.

Sofia swallowed hard.

"Don Navarro... I don't understand."

I leaned back in my chair.

"You don't need to understand everything."

  • Under His Roof, Her Game    The lie

MATEOI had spent weeks waiting for something to happen.Weeks watching Elara.Weeks questioning myself.Weeks telling myself that I was imagining things.Every strange look.Every coincidence.Every story that didn't quite fit.Every time my instincts told me something was wrong.I kept looking for proof because I wanted answers. What I never expected was for those answers to come walking into my office with tears in their eyes. The afternoon had been quiet. Rain tapped softly against the windows while I sat behind my desk reviewing contracts. The sound was almost relaxing. For the first time in days, my mind felt clear. Then someone knocked on the door."Come in."The door opened slowly.Sofia stepped inside. The moment I saw her face, I knew something was wrong. Her eyes were red.Her breathing looked uneven. She stood near the doorway like she wasn't sure whether she should enter or run away.I immediately put the documents aside."Sofia."My voice came out sharper than I intended

  • Under His Roof, Her Game    The warning

ELARAThe morning sun was spilling through the tall dining room windows, painting pale gold across the marble floor. The house looked peaceful. Beautiful. Quiet. Anyone walking through those halls would have thought everything was normal.I knew better.I sat at the dining table with a cup of coffee in my hands while Mateo read through documents beside me. The sound of paper turning filled the silence between us. It was a comfortable silence. The kind that had become strangely familiar over the past few weeks.Sofia entered carrying a tray.My eyes followed her immediately. Not because I wanted to.Because I couldn't stop noticing her anymore. She wore the same neat uniform as every other maid in the mansion, but she somehow always managed to stand out. Maybe it was because she was young. Maybe because she was beautiful. Or maybe because Mateo himself had brought her into this house.Whatever the reason was, she had become impossible to ignore."Good morning, Don Navarro," she said so

  • Under His Roof, Her Game    The new maid

ELARAThe morning started like every other morning.Quiet.Controlled.Predictable.The dining room smelled faintly of coffee and fresh bread. Sunlight poured through the tall windows and painted golden lines across the polished floor. The maids moved around silently, setting plates and refilling cups while the guards remained stationed near the doors like statues.Everything looked normal. But I had learned a long time ago that normal things rarely stayed normal for very long.I sat across from Mateo, slowly stirring my tea while he looked through a stack of documents. His expression was unreadable as always. Cold. Focused. Dangerous.A few months ago, sitting across from him like this would have made me nervous. Now it didn't.That realization was strange.Sometimes I wondered when exactly that fear had disappeared.Or if it had simply changed into something else.I was reaching for my cup when one of the house managers suddenly appeared beside the dining table."Don Navarro," he sa

MATEOI continued reading."Three months ago, I watched Giulia intentionally upset Elara until the poor girl started crying.I thought she would comfort her.Instead she smiled. Like she really smiled while the poor girl cried. Then she sat quietly and watched. As if she was studying her."I looked away from the page.Just for a second. My stomach twisted.I thought about Elara. The way she rarely reacted. The way she hid her emotions so well. The way she seemed to observe everyone around her.Had she learned that because of them?Or had she always been that way?I didn't know anymore.I lowered my eyes back to the letter."I asked Giulia why she enjoyed provoking her.I wish I had never asked. She laughed.Actually laughed. Then she told me something I will never forget. She said:'Pressure reveals the truth.'When I asked her what truth she was talking about, she simply looked toward Elara's bedroom and said:'The truth about what she really is.'”My chest tightened. The words seeme

  • Under His Roof, Her Game    Guilia

MATEOThe abandoned house sat at the end of a narrow road surrounded by dead grass and twisted trees. The sky above was gray, and the cold wind made the branches scrape against one another like old bones. I stood beside my car for a moment, staring at the house Elara had grown up in. It looked smaller than I expected. Older too. The paint was peeling from the walls, and several windows were cracked. Nothing about it looked dangerous, yet a strange feeling settled heavily in my chest. It felt like the house was watching me. I told myself that was ridiculous. It was just an old building. Just wood and stone and dust. But after everything I had learned during the past few weeks, nothing felt simple anymore. Every answer I found about Elara only created more questions. The investigator's report was sitting on the passenger seat of my car. Giulia Romano. Former wife of Alessandro Romano. Official cause of death: suicide. Unofficially? Nobody seemed to understand what had happened. Every pe
