Chapter 0002

DOMINIC

I loosened my tie slightly as I took my seat beside Nana at the back of the car.

"Well done," Nana smiled satisfactorily as she eased the marriage certificate away from my hand, and she read through it with her smile deepening on her face. It was obvious that she was happy and why won't she? She had gotten her desires, she had made me marry the girl she picked for me.

"Where's your wife?" she asked and if it was someone else, I'd have chuckled at the reference to her as my wife. She was my wife quite alright but I didn't need the reminder.

"I have more important things to get back to work so I made her leave already, I gave her the house keys and I told her where I live..."

Nana suddenly smacked my head, cutting my words off.

"Can you be more considerate? She's your wife now."

I groaned, "I know." Of course, I knew that even though it was something I didn't want to come to terms with.

"And you have to treat her like one."

I groaned again, "Yes, Nana."

Silence filled the car as Nana pored over the documents before she looked up at me with a knowing smirk on her face, "so how's she?"

My face contorted into a frown, "what are you talking about?"

"Is she pretty?" Nana asked further with a suggestive smirk not leaving her face.

Aaaah, of course, she was. I didn't want to pay attention to her physical features but she made that near impossible with a body and face that looked like that but regardless of how pretty she was, it wasn't enough to make me go back on my words.

"She's okay," I sounded as dismissive as possible with the hope that Nana would drop the topic but I should have known better.

"So, did you feel anything when you saw her?"

"Nana," I groaned, instantly knowing what she was referring to, "this is the 21st century, things like fated mate and bond already stopped existing."

Nana grumbled under her breath as she handed the document back to me, "Regardless of what you say, she's a good girl and I know she'll make a better wife once you guys settle into your married life. You know, there are not that many girls that'd run into the middle of the road to save a woman they didn't know, and to think she's wolfless, her type is really rare to come across."

Of course, Nana already repeated the story of how she met Katie a million times now. Nana had been completely impressed by her when she ran into the middle of the road to save her and she had been captivated by her manners during their coffee dates and that was why she suggested that I marry her.

It was crazy, I know that agreeing to marry a girl based on Nana's recommendations alone but I didn't have an option and I trusted that Nana wouldn't recommend a girl that'd ruin the reputation of my family but despite knowing that, I still couldn't take chances with her.

I had to be completely sure she was the one before letting her in completely.

"I'm still not going against my decision," I reminded Nana and she nodded.

"Of course, I know and I support you on that. Despite knowing that Katie is a good girl, we still need to be completely sure before giving her that much power."

Good! At least we agree on that.

I was the eldest son of Alpha Jimson of Emperor Pack and

became alpha several months ago, making me by default the CEO of Emperor Group and subsequently, the richest man in the city. Because of my social status and power, a lot of women wanted to date and even set up a marriage with me on both the human and werewolf side. They never bothered to know me, they just wanted the power and prestige of being married to me will give them.

I've been dealing with that since I came of age and now that I was almost 30, I've gotten tired of the whole back and forth and that was why I had to give in to my Nana's advice which was to get married to the girl she found.

I agreed but on only one condition.

The girl wasn't going to know my real identity as the Alpha of the most powerful pack in the country and also the richest man. I wanted to see if she was the right one if she was different from other girls if she was the one I could love and make the future Luna of Emperor pack before revealing my real identity to her.

And now, I still wasn't sure what to make of Katie, my wife, and the woman I was put to the test.

A couple of hours later I was in a meeting at the company after dropping Nana off at her house when my phone rang, disrupting my speech to Alex. I apologized to everyone present before fishing my phone out of my pocket and I rejected it when I saw that it was from a new number.

I excused myself and cussed slightly before rising to my feet and turning my back to the conference table.

"Who's this?" I asked in a gruff and tired voice as soon as I picked up.

"It's me, Katie," my new wife's voice sounded and I sighed.

Less than 24 hours of being married and she was already annoying me.

"What do you want?"

She paused for a while, obviously speechless by my rude tone just like she had been earlier today at the court but I was in no mood to care about how I was speaking to her.

"Where do you live? Like your apartment number? You only told me your house was in Grey Yard and not the exact building. I'm stuck outside right now because I don't know which one is yours." She said everything in a single breath as if she didn't want to spend a second more than necessary with me.

Her reason for calling and disrupting my meeting tipped me off and I was about to tell her that she should have mind linked with me instead of calling me when I remembered that she was human and not a wolf.

Just what kind of thing was I getting myself into by getting married to a human being?

"Unit number 47," I replied to her and without waiting for her to reply, I clicked the red icon.

God! I sighed as I rubbed my face.

Humans are really trouble.
