Adam's POV

I was raised in a decent family. I was adopted as a baby so I never knew who my biological parents were, not that it mattered. My mom and dad never made me want to reach out. It didn't matter that I wasn't theirs by blood.

I have been going a bit crazy lately. I've been hearing this voice. I can't tell anyone about it because I don't want to be looked at weird. I am hoping it's just a phase. It says it's name is Ethan. It doesn't talk a lot, but usually when I'm upset or stressed, it starts. It keeps telling me stuff about 'the change', whatever that means.

I turned 18 today. My parents threw me a pretty big party with music, dancing, even a dj. Surprisingly, the cops never interrupted. There were probably 20 kids that were here.

Currently, it's 9pm and only a few of my closest friends are still here. Although there was no alcohol or drugs, I felt like I had a lot of energy. Which felt good. Scary, but good.

I was in the kitchen when my mom walked in. I was standing in front of the refrigerator.

"Hey mom. I am having so much fun!"

"I'm glad sweety. Um, how are you feeling?"

"Oh. I'm feeling pretty good. Energetic actually. It feels a bit weird. I'm usually tired at this time of night, you know?" I laugh. I see a strange expression on her face. Her eyes sort of glaze over, which I've seen happen before but thought she was tired. Just then, my dad walks in and suggests I ask my friends to go home. Confused, I ask them to call me in the morning but I'm pretty tired. My friends jokingly tease me, but agree.

It's one hour later and I'm sitting in the living room. My mom and dad are talking quietly in the other room and I hear bits and pieces of their conversation.

"Walt, do you think it will happen tonight? That's the same feeling you said you got when you first..." I heard my mom whisper, but I didn't hear the last words. I heard my dad mumbling but I couldn't make out what he said.

"We should probably tell him before it happens. He told me he's already been hearing his voice so I know it's going to happen. We need to prepare him for the pain it can be the first time," my dad suggested.

They both walked into the room and mom sat next to me while dad sat on the chair next to the sofa I was sitting on.

"Adam, sweety, we need to tell you something that will sound really crazy. But it's true. Um.." My mom rubbed her hands together nervously. "Your dad and I aren't who you think we are. We are your parents, of course. But... we aren't... human," she finally said in a rush.

I quirked an eyebrow up at her.

"We don't know how to explain this, son," my dad chimed in. "It might be best if we showed you," with that, my dad left the room. I looked at my mom. She gave me a nervous smile. "Now, son, when you see me, please don't freak out. I'm still your old dad, ok?"

I start to feel nervous because I sense something major is happening. The next second, my eyes almost bug out of my head. I see what looks like a dog walk in. Only it's big and grey. It's fur also has bits of brown in it. The big dog walks over and licks my mom's hand. It's eyes are a pale green with specks of white. She smiles and pets it.

"Adam, meet Chris. Your dad's wolf," she smiles down at it.

"Hello Adam," a rough voice comes from the wolf.

"Adam? Baby, please wake up!" I open my eyes slowly when I feel a tongue licking my hand. I widen when I realize it wasn't a dream. I stumbled back against the couch.

"Baby, you passed out," my mom was caressing my hair. "You must have a lot of questions. We can answer whichever ones we can."

Finally finding my voice. "D...da...dad? You're a dog?"

"No, son. I'm a werewolf. Actually we all are. Even you," The wolf answers me. A werewolf?

See,that's what I've been trying to tell you. My name is Ethan. I'm your wolf.

"Ethan. That's the voice I've been hearing. He's my wolf?" My parents nod. I can't believe this. It's all a dream. Werewolves don't exist. It's fantasy, right?

Nope, not fantasy.

"One moment son," my dad's wolf leaves the room and returns normal 2 minutes. "You don't want to see your old man naked do you?" he giggles.

"What?"

"When we change, we do so with no clothes on. Once we go back to human form, we are naked," he answered like it was nothing.

"On that note, I will be back," my mom walked into the kitchen. A minute later, another dog...er, wolf, walks in. This one was a pretty brown wolf with pale blue eyes. "Mom?" I ask.

"Well, Penny. But yes. I am your mom's wolf," she walks to me and snuggles against my leg.

"Is this a dream?" I asked, bewildered.

"No, honey, it's real," mom answered.

"Do you have any questions, son?"

"Plenty. First..." I'm cut off by a sudden and fierce pain shooting through my body. Crying out, I fell over. "AHH!" My whole body feels like it's on fire.

"Oh no! Son, you're ok. This pain is normal. Your wolf is changing for the first time. Your body is accommodating. It hurts like hell, but you will be fine!" My mom's wolf comes to my aid. I can feel her licking my face as she whimpers.

I hear myself growl for the first time as my bones begin breaking.

Just breathe through it. It will be over soon.

Ethan reassures me. After what feels like 10 minutes, but really is about 3 or 4, I stop and slowly open my eyes. Everything is so clear. I've never had vision problems, but there is still a difference. My senses are heightened immediately.

I look at my parents who are both smiling, tears in my mom's wolf's eyes.

"Your wolf is beautiful!" Penny, my mom's wolf, says. I look over and see that my dad switched already.

"How do you feel Ethan?"

"A..Amazing. I feel so... strong," my wolf answers.

"Would you like to go for a run?" my dad's wolf asks. I nod and we all leave the house. Our house backs up to some woods so we don't have to worry about people seeing.

I run faster than I've ever run, feeling the cool air against my fur. I don't even run out of breath. I feel stronger, more powerful.

Soon, I see my parents slow down, so I did too. We stop by some rocks and sit to rest. I felt exhilarated.

"So, tell me about being a werewolf. Aren't werewolves supposed to be in a pack or something?"

My father's wolf sighed. "We were. You were born into a pack but we ended up leaving when you were still a baby," he answered.

Mom added, "Yes. It was called the White River pack. But the leader, called alpha Michael, retired and his son took over a few years before you were born. His name is Eli. He was mean and we didn't agree with many of his new policies. We stayed for a few years, but Alpha Eli got too violent through the years. So we left. We turned rogue," my mom's wolf explained.
