(Emilie's POV)

When I woke up, nothing was right.

The sky wasn't the sky. It hung above like broken glass, shimmering between night and day without ever committing to either. Rivers flowed backward, water running upward into clouds of silver mist. The ground beneath me pulsed like it had a heartbeat. Every breath I took tasted like iron and rain mixed together.

I wasn't in the mortal world anymore.

I was somewhere else. Somewhere that didn't follow the normal rules.

The Shadowlands.

We were riding through them on horses that made no sound. Lysander's guards surrounded me, their armor so black it seemed to absorb light. Their movements were silent, their faces hidden behind dark visors. Even their horses left no prints on the silver sand beneath us.

My wrists glowed faintly, the twin moon marks shimmering. Chains of shadow hung loosely around my arms. They didn't hurt. They didn't even feel tight. But they were there, a constant reminder that I wasn't free anymore.

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 10: THE BINDING RITUAL - ESCAPE AND CAPTURE

(Emilie's POV)The ceremonial hall smelled of smoke and burning silver.Torchlight flickered across the stone walls, casting long shadows. Every seat was filled. Elders, warriors, even people I'd never seen before crowded into the space. They'd all come to watch me get bound to Silvercrest forever.Magnus stood at the altar in black and silver robes, his voice rolling through the chamber like thunder. "Tonight, we unite the child of twilight with our pack. We bring balance. We bring protection."The crowd murmured their approval. My stomach twisted.I stood in the center of a circle carved with runes, wearing a ceremonial gown so heavy I could barely breathe. Silver charms hung from the fabric, jingling softly with every movement. My wrists glowed faintly where the moon marks had started to appear.Storm watched from the edge of the circle, her

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 9: CONSEQUENCES AND COMPLICATIONS

(Emilie's POV)The silence after the attack was suffocating. For three days, Silvercrest held its breath. The halls reeked of medicine and ash. Everywhere I walked, eyes followed me like I was poison. The whispers started almost immediately."She's the reason they came.""The shadows were looking for her.""Maybe Magnus should turn her over before more people die."I heard them all. I pretended not to care, but each word carved itself into my chest.By the fourth morning, Magnus called a council. The great hall filled with pack leaders and warriors, their faces hard and suspicious. Magnus stood at the center, towering and calm, his silver-gray eyes cold as winter. Everyone fell silent when he spoke."The attack was coordinated," he announced. "Our wards were breached from the Shadowlands. But I want to be clear

(Emilie's POV)Storm's words were still hanging in the air when it happened."They're coming," she'd whispered, and I'd felt the weight of it settle over me like a funeral shroud. But I didn't understand. Not really, not until the ground itself started to shake. The tremor began small, barely noticeable. But then it grew. Harder, deeper. Like something massive was waking up far beneath the earth and pushing upward. The moonflowers in the garden began to wither, their light dimming. The fountains stuttered and went still."What's happening?" I asked, but Storm was already moving. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from the garden. "We need to get back to the palace. Now."Ryker and Asher were already gone, fading back into the shadows like they'd known this was coming all along. The garden itself seemed to collapse around us, the beautiful silver light fading to gray. We ran through the archway just as it sealed shut behind us.We made it back to my chamber, but we weren't there l

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 7: FIRST BLOOD - TRAINING BEGINS

(Emilie's POV)I couldn't sleep at night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the shadows from Kai's warning creeping across my walls. The darkness whispered things I didn't want to hear, and when I finally gave up and opened my eyes, dawn was already breaking over Silvercrest. That's when I saw her standing by the window.Storm. The woman with the white blonde hair and those pale, strange eyes that seemed to see right through you. The one who'd whispered about marks appearing when my power fully awakened. I hadn't seen her since that night, and part of me had hoped I wouldn't have to again. But here she was, watching the forest like she could read its secrets."You're awake," she said without turning around. Her voice was quiet but it made my heart jump anyway. "Good. We don't have much time.""What do you want?" I asked, still half tangled in my blankets. She finally looked at me, and those pale eyes seemed to glow in the early morning light. "The marks, Emilie. They're starting to s

  • Unleashing the lunar within   Chapter six

EMILIEThey gave me a room that was bigger than my entire house had been. Huge bed, private bathroom, windows overlooking the forest. It should have felt safe.It felt like a cage.Aurora and Ethan tried to talk to me, but I couldn't. Every time I looked at them, all I could think about was Mrs. Hawthorne's broken body on the floor. The woman who actually raised me, who actually loved me, who died protecting me from the consequences of their choices."We'll let you rest," Aurora finally said, tears in her eyes. "But Emilie... we really did think we were doing the right thing.""Maybe you did," I said quietly. "But that doesn't make it hurt less."The words came out flat, empty. I wanted to scream at them. I wanted to ask them how they could sleep at night knowing they'd left me with a target on my back and lied for a foundation. But I was too tired, too broken. The anger would come later, I was sure of it. Right now, I just need them gone. They left, and I was alone for the first time
