EMILIE

The Silvercrest palace looked like a fortress.

And I mean that literally it was carved into the mountainside, all dark stone and thick walls and guard towers with people holding actual weapons. This wasn't a home. This was a military base pretending to be a palace.

"This is where you live?" I asked as massive iron gates closed behind us with an ominous clang.

"This is where the pack lives. About three hundred of us." Kai's hand was warm on my lower back, guiding me forward. "We need the security."

Three hundred werewolves… I was surrounded by three hundred werewolves.

My brain still couldn't process that werewolves were real. that magic was real. that I'd just healed someone with a touch.

People stopped to stare as we crossed a courtyard. and I mean really stare, like I was the most fascinating and terrifying thing they'd ever seen.

"Why is everyone looking at me like that?" I whispered.

"You smell human to them, but you're clearly not. It's confusing" Kai glanced down at me. "Confusing to me too."

We entered through doors that had to weigh a ton. Inside was all dark wood and stone, with tapestries showing battles between wolves and other creatures I didn't recognize. It smelled like pine and something wild.

More people in the hallways. All of them impossibly attractive and moving with inhuman grace, all of them stopping to stare at me with expressions ranging from curious to hostile.

I stayed close to Kai's side.

We climbed stairs and walked down the longest hallway I'd ever seen. At the end were doors guarded by two men who made Kai look small.

"She's with me," Kai said simply.

The taller guard dark skin, shaved head, wicked scar across his jaw didn't budge. "Alpha said no visitors, Kai."

"I'm not a visitor," I said before I could stop myself. "I'm someone being hunted by shadow creatures who just healed your future Alpha from a fatal wound. So either let us through or explain to your Alpha why you turned away someone he probably really wants to meet."

The guard’s eyes flickered gold, then he smiled slightly. "I like her. She's got spine." He stepped aside. "Go ahead."

The throne room was massive. at the far end, on a raised platform, sat a man who could only be Kai's father. Same dark hair, same features, but older and infinitely more dangerous.

His eyes were yellow; full wolf eyes.

And they pinned me in place like a predator spotting prey.

"Father," Kai said formally. "I've brought someone you need to meet."

"What have you brought into my home, son?" The Alpha's voice was deep and controlled, but I heard the anger underneath.

"Her name is Emilie: She saved my life. Shadow creatures attacked me on the southern border fatal dark magic wound. She healed it with a touch."

Murmurs rippled through the room. I finally noticed other people standing in the shadows along the walls, watching.

The Alpha descended from his throne slowly. "Is this true?"

"I didn't mean to," I said, finding my voice. "It just happened."

He stopped a few feet away, and I felt his power like a physical weight. "You carry old magic..

Very old." His head tilted. "Who are your parents?"

"I don't know.. Mrs. Hawthorne raised me. She never told me about my real parents. And now she's dead because.."

"Mrs. Hawthorne?" A woman's voice, sharp with shock.

I turned. A woman stepped from the shadows, hand pressed to her mouth. Long auburn hair,

Green eyes exactly like mine.

Exactly like mine.

"Emilie?" she whispered.. "It can't be. You're supposed to be dead."

The world tilted. Kai caught me.

"Who are you?" I managed.

Tears streamed down her face. "I'm your mother. Aurora, and you're alive. After twenty-two years, you're alive."

A man joined her tall, dark hair with silver at the temples. When he looked at me, I saw my own eyes staring back.

"We gave you to Hawthorne to protect you," he said quietly. "To hide you from the prophecy;to give you a normal life."

"You gave me away." The words felt like glass in my throat. "You abandoned me."

"To save you!" Aurora cried. "There are forces that want to use you. The prophecy said you'd either save us all or destroy us. We couldn't take that risk."

"So you just threw me away?" My voice rose. "Let me grow up thinking I was crazy? Thinking I was alone?"

"We thought we were protecting you," my father Ethan said.

"You were protecting yourselves." The words came out cold. "Mrs. Hawthorne is dead. the woman who actually raised me, who actually loved me, died tonight because of your prophecy and your choices."

The Alpha had been watching this with calculating eyes. "The prophecy child, born under two moons. The bridge between worlds."

A small woman with white blonde hair stepped forward. Her eyes were pale and strange. "The marks will appear when your power fully awakens soon."

"What prophecy?" I demanded. "What marks? What am I?"

The Alpha smiled, and it wasn't friendly. "Sit down, Emilie. Let me tell you about the day you were born and the destiny that came with you."

(Emilie's POV)When I woke up, nothing was right. The sky wasn't the sky. It hung above like broken glass, shimmering between night and day without ever committing to either. Rivers flowed backward, water running upward into clouds of silver mist. The ground beneath me pulsed like it had a heartbeat. Every breath I took tasted like iron and rain mixed together.I wasn't in the mortal world anymore.I was somewhere else. Somewhere that didn't follow the normal rules. The Shadowlands. We were riding through them on horses that made no sound. Lysander's guards surrounded me, their armor so black it seemed to absorb light. Their movements were silent, their faces hidden behind dark visors. Even their horses left no prints on the silver sand beneath us.My wrists glowed faintly, the twin moon marks shimmering. Chains of shadow hung loosely around my arms. They didn't hurt. They didn't even feel tight. But they were there, a constant reminder that I wasn't free anymore."Where are you taking

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 10: THE BINDING RITUAL - ESCAPE AND CAPTURE

(Emilie's POV)The ceremonial hall smelled of smoke and burning silver.Torchlight flickered across the stone walls, casting long shadows. Every seat was filled. Elders, warriors, even people I'd never seen before crowded into the space. They'd all come to watch me get bound to Silvercrest forever.Magnus stood at the altar in black and silver robes, his voice rolling through the chamber like thunder. "Tonight, we unite the child of twilight with our pack. We bring balance. We bring protection."The crowd murmured their approval. My stomach twisted.I stood in the center of a circle carved with runes, wearing a ceremonial gown so heavy I could barely breathe. Silver charms hung from the fabric, jingling softly with every movement. My wrists glowed faintly where the moon marks had started to appear.Storm watched from the edge of the circle, her

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 9: CONSEQUENCES AND COMPLICATIONS

(Emilie's POV)The silence after the attack was suffocating. For three days, Silvercrest held its breath. The halls reeked of medicine and ash. Everywhere I walked, eyes followed me like I was poison. The whispers started almost immediately."She's the reason they came.""The shadows were looking for her.""Maybe Magnus should turn her over before more people die."I heard them all. I pretended not to care, but each word carved itself into my chest.By the fourth morning, Magnus called a council. The great hall filled with pack leaders and warriors, their faces hard and suspicious. Magnus stood at the center, towering and calm, his silver-gray eyes cold as winter. Everyone fell silent when he spoke."The attack was coordinated," he announced. "Our wards were breached from the Shadowlands. But I want to be clear

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 8: THE SHADOW ATTACK: FIRST COMBAT

(Emilie's POV)Storm's words were still hanging in the air when it happened."They're coming," she'd whispered, and I'd felt the weight of it settle over me like a funeral shroud. But I didn't understand. Not really, not until the ground itself started to shake. The tremor began small, barely noticeable. But then it grew. Harder, deeper. Like something massive was waking up far beneath the earth and pushing upward. The moonflowers in the garden began to wither, their light dimming. The fountains stuttered and went still."What's happening?" I asked, but Storm was already moving. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from the garden. "We need to get back to the palace. Now."Ryker and Asher were already gone, fading back into the shadows like they'd known this was coming all along. The garden itself seemed to collapse around us, the beautiful silver light fading to gray. We ran through the archway just as it sealed shut behind us.We made it back to my chamber, but we weren't there l

  • Unleashing the lunar within   CHAPTER 7: FIRST BLOOD - TRAINING BEGINS

(Emilie's POV)I couldn't sleep at night. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the shadows from Kai's warning creeping across my walls. The darkness whispered things I didn't want to hear, and when I finally gave up and opened my eyes, dawn was already breaking over Silvercrest. That's when I saw her standing by the window.Storm. The woman with the white blonde hair and those pale, strange eyes that seemed to see right through you. The one who'd whispered about marks appearing when my power fully awakened. I hadn't seen her since that night, and part of me had hoped I wouldn't have to again. But here she was, watching the forest like she could read its secrets."You're awake," she said without turning around. Her voice was quiet but it made my heart jump anyway. "Good. We don't have much time.""What do you want?" I asked, still half tangled in my blankets. She finally looked at me, and those pale eyes seemed to glow in the early morning light. "The marks, Emilie. • Unleashing the lunar within   Chapter six

EMILIEThey gave me a room that was bigger than my entire house had been. Huge bed, private bathroom, windows overlooking the forest. It should have felt safe.It felt like a cage.Aurora and Ethan tried to talk to me, but I couldn't. Every time I looked at them, all I could think about was Mrs. Hawthorne's broken body on the floor. The woman who actually raised me, who actually loved me, who died protecting me from the consequences of their choices."We'll let you rest," Aurora finally said, tears in her eyes. "But Emilie... we really did think we were doing the right thing.""Maybe you did," I said quietly. "But that doesn't make it hurt less."The words came out flat, empty. I wanted to scream at them. I wanted to ask them how they could sleep at night knowing they'd left me with a target on my back and lied for a foundation. But I was too tired, too broken. The anger would come later, I was sure of it. Right now, I just need them gone. They left, and I was alone for the first time
