Chapter 9

Author: Lance
"But you did well this time. Jessica, I believe that no matter what path you choose in the future, you will do great."

I brushed his hand away and wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes.

I pouted my lips said, "I don't care. I want to meet the two maniacs face to face."

The man looked at me, then sighed and nodded.

……

When I saw Mr. and Mrs. Chester, they had lost their former brilliance.

Since the day they were taken away by the police, everything they had done was reported by the media.

Jack didn't seem surprised at my arrival.

He looked at me with self-deprecation and smiled. "I should have guessed. You're just as stubborn as he is. You even look quite alike. It seems you're here to avenge him, right?"

I nodded.

"So your goal was never Megan."

After saying this, he lowered his head, holding it with both hands.

Then he laughed loudly, lifting his tear-filled gaze to look at me.

I curved my lips into a smile, but my eyes were filled with coldness.

I shook my head. "No. Someone as sick as me isn't suitable. I might end up hurting someone the next moment. My dad's friend is right. I have a long life ahead of me. I want to live a better life, so my dad won't worry on the other side." I touched the tip of my nose, which felt slightly sour. I looked into the distance. Perhaps I really should look forward. Under the sunset, my shadow and James's were stretched long. After a while, I smiled. I'm only just turned 18 and my life had only begun.. ‘Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll definitely live a superb life.’ Extra:This was probably the umpteenth time I had argued with my dad this month. Since he became a police officer, he would often forget to pick me up from school. Several times, I almost fell asleep at school waiting for him. One day, which was supposed to be my birthday, I waited all night, but instead of my dad, I saw him holding another girl's hand as they walked toward me. "Sorry, Jessica. I was delayed." "Here

James supported my arm, looking at me in surprise. I patted his hand and checked the camera tucked behind my ear. Nodding at him. When we were about to leave when Jack suddenly blocked our way. "Do you think you can still get away? Jessica, I gave you a chance, but you refused to accept my offer." He picked up a stick from the ground and swung it at us. His mouth was full of frenzied mutterings. "This is my only choice. It's the only way she can be safe. I was the one who wronged her first. You can all die!" Due to being injected with an unknown substance, I felt completely powerless. Just as the stick was about to hit me, James suddenly stepped in front of me, and the stick struck the back of his head. Jack was then kicked aside by James. "James!" I screamed, clutching his swaying body, trying to stop the blood from his head. But nothing I did was of any help. James tugged at the corner of his mouth and smiled weakly. "Don't worry... I'm fine..." "Megan's b

"I can also give you both a huge sum of money and transfer all my properties to you. As long as you let her go, I will give you anything you want," Jack said humbly as he looked at me. James stared directly at me, seemingly trying to see what choice I would make. I glanced at Lauren, bloodied and pinned to the table by him, and laughed loudly. "Anything I want?" I looked at Jack, who was kneeling in front of me. He quickly nodded, fearing I might change my mind immediately. "Alright, then I want your life!" Saying this, I grabbed his collar and dragged him to Megan's corpse. James didn't expect me to be this crazy, and a hint of shock flashed in his eyes. At that moment, Lauren tried to struggle, but James pressed her down forcefully. "What do you want?" "James is doing this for Megan. What about you? If it weren't for the Chester family, you would have been killed by those children from affluent families a long time ago. Jessica, do you not have any gratitude?"

After that, Jack was filled with guilt towards Lauren. Lauren became even more difficult to deal with. She would even warn those girls during Jack's social gatherings. Over time, Lauren felt that it was her disfigurement that caused Jack to change. That was why she became determined to find their daughter, having heard of a remedy somewhere. They talked about skin grafting. Since Lauren insisted, Jack stood by her side.Lauren cried and her face was full of tears, recounting her grievances. I glanced at the scar that hadn't been soaked with tears, curving my lips slightly. I mocked, "You must have told this story to those missing girls too." Lauren's hand froze as she wiped her tears. She smiled and said, "I just wanted to vent my emotions, is that wrong?" I shook my head, "Of course there’s nothing wrong with that, but he's awake now. He should know this too, right?" Sure enough, when Lauren looked at Jack, her eyes were full of disdain. “Shouldn’t men who aren’t loyal just die?

Seeing the shock in her eyes, I slowly got up.Only then did I see that the person surrounded by mist was none other than Megan from the video at the charity dinner.Only her face was scarred."Scared?" Lauren came to my ear at some point and murmured softly.I laughed. "Are you going to turn me into that as well?"After saying that, Lauren looked at me almost obsessively and said, "Of course not, this face of yours, although annoying, is really beautiful. So, I want the skin on your face..."I shuddered.Could this be what she was ultimately after, but what did she want the skin for?Just as I was lost in thought.Lauren had already torn the skin off the right side of her face, revealing a hideous and horrible scar."After all these years, I thought I wouldn't be able to find the right person. I didn't expect you to just take the initiative to come to my door. I would have wanted you to continue to enjoy the life of being the daughter of an affluent family for a while. But you were to
