Katie's POV
We instantly went outside the training grounds and watched as tons of blood were spilled. They look like they are looking for something or someone, but at the same time, the rogues were attacking almost any she-wolf they saw. We saw a lot of rogues today, unlike what we have seen so far. In the past, they only attacked alone, or at least three of them together. But now, it was a bunch of wolves; I estimated that around eight of them were there. I saw Alpha and Luna fighting off together as the other wolves also collectively fought. The rogue wolves that were attacking were as big as a Beta or even an Alpha. All eight of them are incredibly huge. The three of us heard a young girl yell near us when it was about to be attacked, but Khalid jumped out to bite the rogue, and Jessica picked up the girl with her mouth to safety. After doing so, she came back to help Khalid and gnawed its left leg so it would lose the strength in its leg.
"Katie! Behind you!" I heard Rose warn, but before she did, I could already sense the rogue and dodged the attack with no delay. I then tried to stab its nose and was successful in doing so, which made the wolf howl in pain. It glared at me and was about to bite me. I braced myself for the impact, letting my arm show so that it would take the bait. Only, both Rose and Percy chomped its neck from each side, and successfully, we killed the wolf.
"What on earth are you thinking about!?" Rose hissed at me, mad that I was in danger and almost got killed.
"Sparring with us is one thing, but that was plain stupid and reckless, Katie! You cannot heal like we do!" Percy furiously reminded. I know he was uterly worried about my well-being, but that was a huge slap for me. It reminded me of that day ten years ago. But I swallowed my pride and let it slide. I won't let my emotions be the best of me and blurt out some words that may hurt them.
"I'm sorry, but I had a plan. I won't let it kill me." I apologized so that they would calm down and refocus our energy on saving other young wolves that cannot defend themselves in a safe place.
"This conversation is far from over, Katie." Rose sighed, and we promptly ran to help other wolves. We killed one; Khalid and Jessica also killed one, while Alpha, Luna, and Beta also killed one each. I was deeply amazed by the three of them; they killed one huge wolf on their own. Even though they are now cruel and harsh to me, I am still happy they protected the pack. Five down, that leaves three to go; if I am right that they were eight. I saw a couple of warrior wolves kill two of them, and that leaves one. We surrounded the last one so that it wouldn't escape. It keeps on growling hungrily and is ready to chomp on us at any time. But of course it was extremely careful and hesitated to attack since it was the only one left.
"Catch him alive. We need information." Alpha Fredrick dominantly ordered. All of them growled in agreement, and I just nodded. I guessed it sensed me since it looked in my direction and snarled. It ran towards me in a swift movement as I heard Khalid shouting. With just a split second, it hovered on top of me.
"You!!!" it huffed. He was about to munch my neck with the intent to kill.
Desperately reaching for my dagger as it clattered away from me. He jumped on top. Once my hand felt it, I aimed for its eye. He backed away and groaned in pain. I may not be able to shift, but there is no way in hell I would be killed so easily! I won't back down without a fight.
The corner of my eye saw Khalid, Jessica, Percy, and Rose. They bit its legs and stomach with no remorse.
"Don't kill!!" Alpha Fredrick yelled to remind them, and the four of them immediately retreated. I felt they were proud and satisfied with what they did to the wolf who tried to kill me. I stood up with Khalid and the others following me. They were a distance away because they were scared some others might strike my back.
"Now. Let's interrogate this motherfucker." Alpha Fredrick growled, and two of the warrior wolves dragged the rogue to the interrogating room.
But one rogue suddenly leaped at the back of Alpha Fredrick. He was about to rip Alpha Fredrick's throat out. As if by reflex, I slashed its back as it groaned in pain. He leaped out and started to defend himself from me. With all my weight, I leaped on top of him, but he wouldn't fall. I ended up on his back as he was trying to get me off of him. Holding a handful of his fur in my left palm, and the free one jabs its neck. The dagger repeatedly skewered his neck, causing the blood to splatter on my face. Finally, it exhaled its last breath and tumbled to the ground. I used my arm to lift myself up and noticed that all of them froze in place. Whisking my dagger so that the blood will come off.
"Are you okay, princess!?" Khalid was most likely in shock at my appearance as he ran in my direction. Maybe he was really troubled since he instinctively called me by that nickname. But it felt nice hearing it from him again. I nodded, and he hugged me tightly. I could feel Jessica's warm body against mine, indicating that she joined in to also hug me.
"All of you worry too much." I chuckled and tapped Khalid's back.
"Khalid. Jessica. Now." Alpha Fredrick hissed at them. Wow, not even a simple 'thank you'? I basically saved his throat! Khalid patted my head. They quickly wolfed out and ran as they followed Alpha Fredrick. Since only a few are allowed in there, and obviously I am not one of them. Me, Percy, and Rose just stayed behind. I just took a quick glance at my brother and was about to go to my old cabin, but he came back and snagged my arm. I winced in pain, and he sighed, "Come with me."
Before I could even protest, he basically dragged me to the interrogating room. Alpha and Luna were already nowhere in sight. Maybe they are checking the perimeters alongside other wolves. Only me, Khalid, and the last rogue were here. He went out to grab some first-aid kits. Told me to stay here and keep an eye on the rogue.
The rogue was chained with silver cuffs and shackles. Stenching with wolf's bane was the only proof needed to signify he was forced to drink one. He lifted his head, and a disturbing smile was plastered on his face.
"You already met him, huh?"
"Who?" My brows furrowed at his sudden query.
"The Devil. The one that will end us all." The creepy grin on his face was now gone as he added, "But if you already met him, then.."
He immediately shut his mouth when my brother arrived. I glanced back at the rogue, my eyes looking for answers. Only, he didn't even spare me a glimpse as he hung down his head again.
Khalid patched up my wounds and cuts that the rogues managed to graze. Alpha Fredrick then came back together with Luna Kathrina and the other wolf guards. It was evident that he wasn't happy that I was here, but chose to deal with the rogue first. They tortured him for his confession. But they failed to extract answers. Alpha Fredrick was so pissed off that he ordered the guards to drag the rogue outside. He insisted on humiliating the rogue with a public execution. The worst possible death for a prideful bunch of beast like us.
He was hung outside like a scarecrow. Forced to shift in his human form earlier because of the wolf's bane. Pack members gathered to witness this scene, except for the young and the elderly.
A wolf guard starts to lash him with a silver whip. The rogue just froze there as if it didn't hurt him one bit. The executioner wolves were ordered to go get the two silver swords that are usually used for condemning criminals on death row. These swords are long and heavy. As it was dragged by the headsman, the rogue slowly lifted his head. His eyes were dirty white, and with a blank face, he spoke..
"A curse will befall one unwanted
As she will be what the devil wanted
For she is his omega
And his world will be in great dilemma"
The moment he breathed the last word, the blade was plunged into his heart. The other one to behead him.
Instead of celebrating, all of the pack members were confused as they all stared at me. For I was the one he peered at as he kept on saying those phrases.
The most sinister part is that even with his head on the ground, his dead eyes are still fixed on me.
Katie’s POV“How could you just leave me here all alone, master?” Fenrir groused and I leveled him a stare. Not even backing out one bit, even though he flinched as he was surprised.Because..Here he goes again. And I thought we already talked about this very issue just months ago!Wait.. Or was it merely even weeks ago?He cleared his throat and corrected his mistake, “..I mean, Katie.”I smirked and proudly nodded as I exuded my pheromones to heal this mythical beast of ours. He then added, still pouting like a child that he is, “I get that those ungrateful vampires left me here..” Vladimyr grunted in protest, but we both ignored him as he continued, “..but you? We are of the same species, Katie!”“I apologized ten minutes ago, didn’t I?” I scoffed at how silly he is right now. But I get that at this point, we are just teasing one another. Maybe an unspoken love language between us of the same kind?“There.” I patted his large paws. Comforting him as I blasted my pheromone for one
Katie’s POV The following morning...I woke to the subtle weight of an arm around my waist and the slow, deep rhythm of another's breathing against my back. For a moment, I didn’t move. I didn’t even breathe too loudly. I just let the reality of this moment sink in.Vladimyr was here. Still.Warm, solid, alive—and with me. I cannot believe it.My heart ached in the best possible way, like a wound slowly stitching itself closed. It hadn’t been a dream. None of it. The fountain. The look in his eyes. The way he trembled when I touched his hand like I was a ghost came to haunt him, or worse—leave him again. And now... we were here.I turned gently in his arms, careful not to wake him. His face was slack with sleep, and there were faint shadows beneath his eyes—he hadn’t been sleeping well lately, that was evident. But thankfully, right now, it seemed the exact opposite. I smiled at the thought that he finally slept peacefully after those exhausting nights.I reached up and brushed a st
Katie’s POVThe manor was hushed at this hour, the halls stretched long and sleepy ahead of us, lit only by the flicker of the occasional candle left burning low on the walls. Vladimyr walked beside me, his hand brushing against mine now and then, each accidental touch sending ripples of warmth up my arm.I couldn't help glancing at him from the corner of my eye. His hair was still damp from the fountain, curling boyishly at the ends. His jacket was missing—still draped over my shoulders—and every few steps, he would glance at me like he wasn’t quite sure I was real. Like he was afraid he might wake up and find himself alone again.I tightened the jacket around myself and smiled softly.I wasn’t going anywhere. Not now. Not ever. When we reached the familiar dark wood doors of our bedchambers, he paused. His hand hovered at the handle for a moment too long.I could feel the tension rolling off him in waves—uncertainty, maybe even fear. Not of me, though.Of what this meant.
Vladimyr's POVKatie’s hand in mine was the only real thing. The night could have collapsed around us—the stars could have burned out one by one—and still, I would have known the shape of her palm pressed to my skin."I'll try," I'd said. But even that word felt too small for what this moment deserved. She squeezed my hand gently, grounding me. Not demanding, not forcing. Just there. I breathed in her scent once again as if it's the only thing that is keeping me sane and still. And for the first time, it didn’t feel like a ghost whispering through my ribs. It felt alive. She felt alive. And so did I.We sat there long enough that the chill crept through my jacket, but I didn’t move. Neither did she. The silence between us was comfortable now, not sharp. Like an old quilt draped over bruised skin. Healing, even if it hurts."I remember," I said at last, the words rough in my throat. "Not everything. But... you had this ridiculous red cloak once." I slowly took off my jacket and p
Vladimyr's POVI hadn’t meant for the piano to become a confessional, but there I was—spilling pieces of myself I didn’t understand to a woman whose scent had begun to haunt my every breath again. And now, even after she left the room, the scent lingered. Lavender and wolf. Her heartbeat was etched in the air, pounding in my ears like the last echo of a dream. And me? I sat there like a man who had walked into a burning building hoping the flames would remember his name.A quiet knock interrupted the haze of my thoughts.“Come in,” I said, voice rough with disuse.Sebastian entered, ever the shadow in well-tailored formality. His gloved hands were folded behind his back, eyes downcast at first—but I caught the flicker of something in his gaze when he looked up.“You missed dinner, sir,” he said. “Again.”“I wasn’t hungry.”“You say that every night.”I said nothing. He hesitated. “Lady Katie took her meal in the garden. Alone.”The way he said it… the weight in that single word.Alone
Katie’s POVI didn’t realize how long I’d been standing there, giggling like a lovesick fool in the middle of the courtyard, until Miranda cleared her throat behind me.“My Lady?” she asked gently.I nearly jumped. “Oh—Miranda. Sorry. I was just… um. Thinking.”Her expression softened, though her eyes flicked toward the space Vladimyr had vanished from. “He called you little wolf, didn’t he?”“Yeah. So uhm, you also heard that huh? For a second I really thought I was dreaming..” I said, my cheeks heating. “He hasn’t done that in… well, since before the memory loss.”Miranda nodded slowly. “That’s something, then. You’re getting through to him. In small ways, my lady”Baby steps.I turned my face toward the sky, letting the breeze cool the storm that still stirred in my chest. The ache hadn’t gone away—not completely—but it felt different now. Like a splinter had been pulled loose. A sliver of something familiar had finally broken the surface. But the question still burned in my mind—w
