Damon's POV

I drove through the empty streets, my mind racing faster than the car.

That woman. Her voice. Her laugh. The feeling of absolute happiness that came with her memory.

Who was she?

The question burned inside me, demanding an answer I couldn't give.

When I arrived at the Healer's cottage, I noticed several other cars parked outside. Even at this hour, she had patients. Of course she did. She was the best healer in the territory. People came to her at all hours with emergencies.

I couldn't walk in there openly. Too many questions would be asked. Too many rumors would spread.

So I waited.

I parked my car a distance away, hidden among the trees, and sat in the darkness.

My thoughts drifted to Sera. To the way she had cried herself to sleep in my arms. To the hurt in her eyes when I refused to explain.

I was destroying us. I knew that. Every secret I kept, every lie I told, chipped away at the foundation of our relationship.

But I couldn't stop. Not now. Not when I was so close.
