Chapter 4: Arrested

“Lord, please take care of me,” I silently prayed.

The female jail guard opened the cell and let me in. “Be nice here, so you won't get hurt!” she said to me.

Jeff was charged with a criminal case and murder case against me. He is currently in the hospital recovering. I fought in court using a free lawyer from PAO. But because Jeff and his family are powerful with money, they bought the law. They lost the case and I ended up in jail. He also got custody of our children. I could hardly accept it and I was outraged. I realized that it is really different if a person has money, I am also disappointed in the law.

“I promise, Jeff. I'll get back to you one day,” I silently said to myself.

“Hey! That's my place!” a prisoner claimed the bed. And I think everyone respects it.

I calmly stood up and sat on the other bed.

“Hep!  That's my bed!” another prisoner claimed it too.

“Sorry!” I said, and sat on the floor and hugged my knees. I cried every day and night because I missed my daughters a lot.

“—Hey! Maybe you forgot you're not alone here! If you want to spend the night crying, you go to the bathroom!"  my fellow prisoner yelled.

“Teach a lesson to learn!” the lady jail guard shouted.

The six lady prisoners stood up and helped beat me. They left me unconscious and my face was bloody, and my lips were cracked. I woke up slowly and I realize I was already in bed. When I turned around, I saw the three women in front of me. I panicked and wanted to stand up.

“Oops! Take it easy, you're not healed yet,” said a woman supporting me.

“Don't worry, we're kind here,” another woman interrupted.

“Where am I?” I asked and looked around.

“Don't you remember what happened to you? I am Amalie Salomon," she introduced me.

“The only thing I remember is that there were six women helping me beat me. After that, I don't remember anything.” I replied.

"Gurl, you don't know? You didn't were unconscious for three days. You were transferred here in our cell unconscious. Don't worry, we're kind here and from now on, no one will hurt you because we are on your side here,” said the other woman and she smiled.

“Thank you for taking care of me. I'm Jenny,” I introduced myself.

“I'm Zeth Amora. Why are you here?"

It took a long time before I could answer, and the incident returned to my memory and I suddenly missed my two children. I didn't realize that my tears were falling.

“Jenny… Jenny, are you okay?” Amelie said to me.

“I accidentally killed my husband's mistress, I only shot my husband. But the bullet penetrated and the mistress was hit and died. I hope my husband is the only one who died, I hope there's only me with my two children… " I cried as I continued to speak.

“What did you say? I hope your husband and his mistress both died! He is an idiot!  He managed to bring his mistress to your house! In front of your children," Harissa interrupted. She is a Muslim and former rebel

“That's not right! Why is it easy for the rich to oppress the poor?” Zeth asked sadly, and leaned to sit on the edge of the railing.

“Not only that! They can also twist and buy the law!" Glendy interrupted, and introduced herself.

“You're right, that's what happened to me,” I agreed.

We were in the middle of the conversation when the jail guard suddenly knocked on the railing of the cell.

“Everyone get out!" the lady jail guard commanded us.

“W-where are we going?” I asked nervously.

“It's time for lunch,” Glendy answered.

“Just bring your food,” Zeth said.

"No, it's okay. I can walk.” I slowly stood up and Amalie promptly supported me.

“Thank you, Amalie…" I said.

"Just call me, Lie. I didn't use Amalie," she corrected me.

“Alright, if that's what you want.”

I walked slowly because I could still feel the pain in my body. And the bruise on my eye and the side of my lip is still black. We were currently standing in line on the other side, and I suddenly stepped back when I saw those who beat me.

“Just relax, Jenn. We're here,” Zeth whispered into my ear.

“Jenn, hide it — just in-case they move you, fight as hard as you can and don't show fear,” said Haressa, and secretly handed me the small hunting knife.

“T-thank you…” my voice is still shaking because the nerves in my brain exist.

And after a while we sat down at an empty table and the person from the other cell was next to us. We saw their leader making the same gesture to her colleague in front of her, and he nodded while standing up.

“Jenny, boss asked how is your body? Is it still sore?” she asked me in a whisper, and this is one of the ones who beat me.

“Jenn, ignore that and eat,” Glendy told me.

The woman laughed before speaking again… “Do you know your husband paid a lot to teach you a lesson?” she said, as if she wanted to make me angry. I gripped the fork tightly when I heard what she said. My anger for my husband increased and I will never forgive him for the rest of my life.

“What's your problem, huh?!” Haressa shouted angrily and threw the rice at her face.

Those at the other table struggled to get up, and a riot started between the two groups. I could barely move because I was so scared, but my four new friends got into a fight with them. I think my four friends is enough to fight with them because they know how to fight. Furthermore, I noticed the leader in the other cell was going to Amalie with a knife in her hand. I quickly pulled out the hunting knife that Haressa gave me. And I ran to grabbed their leader.
