Elijah's POV My heart was pounding in my chest as I made my way back to the palace. Maria had not been any different and it broke my heart the more that she had done it with the one person that she had denied having any interest in. Maria's POV It felt hazy when I woke up later that evening. Elijah had sent for Elvira earlier, he had mentioned that he had something important that he wanted her to do. I tried my best to cope with the loneliness, considering that I still felt the dull ache of loss. "Hello," I heard Nathan's voice from the door. He had not even bothered to knock this time around. Even though I didn't want to unlock it, I felt the need to rid him of the guilt that he had something to do with the loss of my child. "Hey," I said as I opened the door and stood aside to let him in. "I've been trying to see you," he said quietly as he stood opposite me in the living room. "I forgive you. You don't have to worry." Maria's POV It has been two long days, two days of pure agony and heart-wrenching sadness. I could feel a part of me dying slowly like a grass that somehow can't seem to get a touch of the rain. It was heavy, a burden that I had never known its weight before it was cruelly dropped on my shoulders. For one moment in my life, I felt nothing. Just raw sadness and depression. Elvira moved in with me to help me cope as I refused to go to the palace or move in with Elvira. Maria's POV The last thing I remembered was Elvira's shrill scream piercing into the silence of the night as soon as I opened the door. It was as if the scream had tripped off a valve in my head because I immediately felt faint as I felt myself falling backwards. "Don't fall down" Elvira said as she dived for me, making sure to break my fall to the hard floor with her body. This place was unfamiliar, it didn't look like anywhere that I had ever been.
