Isabella’s eyes opened wide into a room filled with slashes of sunlight coming through the partially closed blinds. She pressed a hand to her chest and swallowed hard, her gaze falling on the nightstand beside the bed where a clock flashed bright white numbers. The sheet slid to her waist and she rubbed her hands over her face.

She glanced over her shoulder to see Alexander sleeping. One arm was thrown above his head while the other lay across his bare stomach. The sheet was riding dangerously

As he pulled out into the city traffic, Isabella spent the first two minutes trying to pry the location out of him. She tried sweet-talking, she tried playful interrogation, and she even tried giving him a silent, brooding pout, but Alexander held firm, chuckling as he played her game and giving her hints that just ended up with her guessing wrongly. It was only when he took the familiar exit toward the city’s high-end commercial district that Isabella’s playful banter began to slow. She looked out the window, her brow furrowing slightly as the glittering glass facade of The Zenith came into view. Alexander pulled into the private valet circle, the heavy tires crunching softly against the pavement. The valet attendants, already briefed, opened Isabella’s door with a polite smile, bypassing the usual check-in desk completely.Isabella stepped out, her eyes darting from the luxury hotel entrance back to Alexander as he handed over his keys. The realization was clearly starting to settl

Alexander barely slept that night. It was impossible to rest when the love of his life hadn't said yes to marrying him.Granted, she hadn't said no either, but it was only after the door had clicked shut and Isabella was gone that he finally realized he hadn't asked her right. He had asked the most important question of his life in his fucking office—while they were both half-naked on his desk, and he didn't even have a ring to offer her. Two times he'd proposed to this woman… Without a ring. A terrible move, he admitted to himself, pacing his dark bedroom. Being completely carried away in the heat of the moment wasn't an excuse. Thankfully, she hadn't rejected him outright, which meant he still had a chance. This time, he had to do it right, and doing it right meant planning a flawless, undeniable proposal. He knew Isabella well enough to know that she would detest a loud, public spectacle. Honestly, neither of them cared for those anyway. He found public proposals tacky as well. Sh

“I love you, Izzy,” Alexander said, putting every single ounce of seriousness he could muster into his features so she would know, without a shadow of a doubt, that he meant it. “And I'm not joking. I really do want this. I want us to be a family.”Isabella swallowed hard, feeling slightly suffocated. Desperate to lighten the mood, she forced a small chuckle. “I should tell you… This is a horrible proposal, Lex,” she said, “We're half-naked on your office desk.”He let out a breath, shaking his head, but he maintained his position between her legs. To be honest, a sharp spike of anxiety was telling him that if she walked away right now, he might not get the opportunity to truly talk to her about this again. She looked a bit terrified, and he knew it was his fault for blabbing about such a sensitive topic in that moment. He had just been so carried away by the sheer feeling of her, and a bit desperate too when she mentioned the annulment.“I know,” he told her softly. “And I'm sorry, b

She reached to stroke him again, but he grabbed her seeking hand, stopping her movement, her nipple popping out of his mouth as he lifted his head to look at her, “I'm the one who will be setting the pace.” He leaned over to deliver an almost-chaste kiss to her mouth, “I’m the boss.”He kept his promise about setting the pace. The slow, slow pace. He left her breasts, left them aching, to move up her neck and explore the hollow behind her ears, the smooth skin at her temples, and to draw a line down her nose with the tip of his tongue. She leaped like a fish to catch his mouth with hers and she heard him give another of those low laughs as he delivered nipping little kisses on her lips. But that wasn’t what she wanted, she wanted more—long kisses, luscious kisses, tongue kisses. Then his hands moved down farther, rubbing her thighs, pushing her skirt up until it was bunched around her waist, until his fingers were slipping beneath the lace panties. He pushed them past her hips and do

Alexander's eyes once again dropped briefly to her thighs before dragging back up. “Why are you sitting all the way over there?” he asked, his voice low.Isabella chuckled, leaning back slightly on her hands. “You have a problem with where I'm sitting?”He shook his head, trying and failing to look innocent. “No,” he replied. “But you're so far away… so far away that I can't touch you. I’d just prefer it if you were closer.”“Hmmmm,” Isabella murmured with a knowing smile, but she slowly stood up and walked over to him. The second she was close enough, his hand shot out, grabbing her arm and pulling her down onto his lap. She giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck and intertwining her fingers behind his head. “Lex…”“Isn't that much better?” he asked. One powerful arm wrapped tightly around her waist, anchoring her against him as he buried his nose in her hair and breathed her in deeply. “You smell so good, honey,” he added throatily.Isabella let out a soft sigh, her body relaxin

Derek rolled his eyes and sank back into his chair. “Look at you,” he said, a faint, teasing smirk finally breaking through his face. “Do you remember how much of a pain in the ass you were when you found out about me and Liv? I am never going to forgive you for robbing me of the opportunity to do the same thing to you.”Isabella couldn't help the laughter that escaped her this time. “I'm sorry,” she said again, and she meant it. “I was just ashamed.”Derek shrugged, “I understand. But I still wish you'd said something sooner. I would have been pissed, yeah, but I'm sure I would have gotten over it.” He eyed her knowingly for a moment. “So… you love him, huh?”“Yeah,” she whispered, her heart swelling. “I do.”“And you still want to go through with getting the marriage annulled?”Isabella shrugged, “That has always been the plan,” she replied.Derek nodded slowly, his eyes holding hers, “Yeah…” he said softly. “But plans can be changed, can't they?”Isabella stood up, a small smile on
