6. At The Wolfblood River

"Taz, what exactly did you see?" Niue Yoda, one of the twelve history keepers said.

They were by the side of the great temple facing the  Wolf blood river. The sounds of the clashing waves and the river birds creating a pleasant music.

"What I saw wasn't really clear? But I am sure of what I heard."

          "And what did you hear?"

"I heard Yvonne screaming, shouting in desperation. She was screaming and weeping in the most horrible way I've heard."

          "Did she say anything, Taz?"

"Ummm…nothing much, she was just shouting the word, No, over and over again."

Niue looked up and thought for several seconds. "I think it's because she was murdered. She must be seeking Justice."

"No, Niue. It's more than that."

Surprised, Niue asked, "What do you mean?"

"I don't know how to explain this….it was something like a feeling of true pain….like  a heartbreak."

         "Heartbreak?"

"Yeah. Like she felt betrayed or back stabbed."

Niue stood up and began pacing the long corridor. His hands in his thick ,long, grey hair.

Taz, seeing how troubled Niue was, quickly added, "But, I may mistaken. Maybe it's…"

He sat down back besides Taz."No Taz , I'm pretty sure that you are not mistaken because I too have had my own suspicions."

       "Really."

"Yeah, when I first heard about Yvonne's death, I thought maybe she was sick or something related with old age, but then when I heard that she was murdered, I became seriously bothered because for a full century no Alpha has been killed, and the last time an Alpha was murdered was when the Blood moon Beast came."

"What is a Blood moon Beast?"  Taz asked.

"It's a powerful werewolf, which history has it to be the first true Alpha who appears in every blood moon in to cleanse and purify the land."

"First True Alpha, that is the Alpha who created the Werewolf terrain and separated us from other beings."

           "Yes, Taz."

"Really, then I think we will need such beast to cleanse our lands now."

"Trust me you wouldn't wish that."

       "Why?"

"When I said cleanse and purify, i didn't tell you the means in which it cleanses. The blood moon beast purifies the land by killing anyone who had committed murder or had done evil."

"It still doesn't sound that bad."

"By evil, I mean any form of immorality, Anything against the law, including minor things like petty theft, lies, and other things which are mostly ignored by the society."

        "Well, that's horrible."

"Yes Taz, it was horrible. It led to the complete annihilation of two other packs."

"Oh my God." Taz said with his mouth agape. "Can it ever come back?"

         "It depends."

      "On what?"

"It depends on the level of peace and cooperation. But for the past Hundred years, after the new tradition was created there has been Peace."

"So what you are saying now is that if we stop this cooperation between packs, there's a possibility of the blood moon beast coming back."

"Yes, Taz. That's why everyone of us are trying our best in maintaining the new tradition."

"Can the death of Yvonne bring back the beast?"

       "No, it can't."

       "But she was murdered, so…"

      "Yet there is still peace."

     "But…"

Niue sighed, "Enough of the questions, we have a murder case to solve, so leave the beast matter alone." Niue stood up and stretched, his old bones cracking. He patted Taz on the head and walked away.

Taz wasn't satisfied with Niue's explanation, as he had had several nightmares about a massive werewolf in a blood pool in the past two weeks, but he hadn't told any of the history keepers about it because he knew they would get worried. They always get worried any time anything even the slightest things happened to him.

Reven walked alone along the tall pines faraway into the fields. It was getting late, the red sun had disappeared and the early stars had popped out already. In his hands was an image of his mother. He gently rubbed the image with so much care. She had died several years ago, but his heart was still incomplete.

As he walked further his ears caught a distant conversation, as he was used to using his werewolf senses every time. He silently walked towards the direction of the voices. As he grew closer, the grasses become shorter and there were only two trees there. At his front, was the bank of the Wolfblood river. There was mist everywhere, but amidst the mist were two people, one of them was with a lamp, but the lamp was too dim for him to see any one of them, as they were both in long cloaks.

He still couldn't make out what they were saying, so he crawled forward. As he crawled, he accidentally knelt on a sharp stone which cut him deep and he winced in pain. The two people in cloaks looked towards his direction, but he laid flat on the grass, his knees bleeding badly. The mist helped in concealing him and they soon continued with their discussion, ignoring the noise.

        Reven used his hyper hearing sense to listen, and he heard the one without a lamp say;

"I can't bear her attitude anymore, Father."

"Yes you can and you will," the one with a lamp said. "We know what we are heading for, so tolerating a little girl's bad manners shouldn't be an obstacle."

"I can't ignore it because she is interfering with the plan."

       "How?"

"She doesn't know how to contain pressure and has no self control, she is rude, dumb, obsessed, and crazy."

"That's why you have to make her trust you. It's been Eighteen years since we've began this plan, we can't lose now."

       "Yes Father."

"I heard the Skull pack are in the furnace lands."

         "Yes."

"Perfect. Everything is working as planned." He dropped his lamp and reached out into his pocket, he brought out something wrapped in black clothing. "Take this, I hope you know what to do with this, son"

         "Yes, Father."

He picked up his lamp and leaned in to kiss the other one on the cheek. "No messing up. Leave now, before they begin to look for you."

They both baded each other goodbye and soon the one with the lamp was out of sight. The other mounted a horse back and rode  towards the town.

Reven waited for a long time until he was sure that the one without lamp had gone far enough before he stood up. His left knee was bleeding badly, so he hopped, following the man from a distance. He tried to catch up, but in a few seconds, the man was out of sight.

After several minutes he got exhausted, so he sat on the short grasses. He removed his shirt, ripped it off and tied it around his knee.

He laid back in the short grass, facing the beautiful constellations of stars. Within seconds, he was asleep.
