Chapter 6

Hailey's pov;

My head felt heavy when I woke up. As I looked around the place, I saw Austin, who's standing beside me with a glass of water. As soon as I noticed him standing in front of me, I moved back quickly and hit the wall. I checked my neck, there was no bleeding. I looked around the room for a mirror, and when I did, I stepped before it to look for bite marks on my neck. Upon discovering that there wasn't one, I exhaled with relief.

Austin, "Stop behaving strangely and take this." and set the water glass on the desk.

I picked up the glass and drank the water while surveying my surroundings. It appeared to be a dorm.

"You're in my room," he said as he sat down on the chair.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked.

"Because I'm not going to be your personal driver to take you home," he replied.

"So why did you bring me here? Why not just leave me there? Someone would have helped."

He made his bed without saying anything.

"I'll get going then."

"It's beyond midnight," he remarked as he halted my attempt to exit the room. "So crash here. And, I don't want to get in trouble because of you." He pointed at the other bed in the room and said, "Take that," and then sat down on his empty bed.

"What about your roommate?" I questioned as I regarded the vacant bed in his room. "Where is he now?"

"The only person residing here is me."

'Who would stay in the same room with a vampire?'

"Do vampires sleep?" I questioned while seated on the bed he offered. "I've heard that they don't sleep."

"Where did you learn this from?" I asked.

"On the web. Everything is available on the internet. Your entire past. In 1047, there was the first mention of vampires-"

He interrupted me by stating, "It simply provides knowledge based on films and a few human-written articles. You people make us into what you want and believe such things like fools."

"Then explain yours to me so I can learn from a trustworthy source."

"We don't impart our species' knowledge to humans."

I laughed and questioned, "Didn't you suggest that I should forget that night? Therefore, Mr. Vampire, you have already spilled the tea."

"Tell your folks you're here so they won't worry about you," " he said, throwing my phone to me after giving me a stern look.

I smirked as I laid on the bed with my back to the ceiling and muttered, "Like they care."

I turned on the phone and tried playing games on my phone to help me fall asleep but it ran out of battery and shut off. Austin was lying next to him, facing the wall, when I turned to look at him. "Are you asleep?" I questioned.

Still facing the wall, he inquired, "What?"

"Aren't you wondering why I passed out in the rain?"

"Unlike you, I dislike being nosy."

What a sleazy jerk! I got up and circled the room since I couldn't sleep in this new environment. There were no picture frames, posters, or sticky notes on the wall that I could see. It didn't look like someone was staying here. The space appeared so orderly and tidy. In contrast to my room, the books on the table were neatly arranged, and I could not see any dirt on the floor.

I assumed Austin must be a tidy freak as I stared at him while he slept. and took another glance in the mirror. Did he consume my blood to make it vanish like previously.

"I did nothing,"

"I thought you're asleep."

He asked me again as I turned to face him, sitting up straight in bed, "Why are you still up?"

"How do you think I'm supposed to sleep in a room with a vampire?"

"Didn't you say you're not scared of me?"

"Moreover, how can I sleep with an empty stomach? I haven't had anything to eat since lunch," I told Austin.

He simply said, "So?" in his response.

"I'm starving. I must eat to stay alive. I'm not a vampire who consumes human blood to sustain my life."

He gave me a cold look before leaving the room. Atleast, I'm getting food in the end. Why am I feeling so hungry today? My stomach growled as I waited for him. I drank water but still felt hungry.

When Austin eventually entered the room holding a box in his hand, I immediately said, "Give it to me. I'm so hungry."

"It cost $20," he said as he handed me the dinner.

I gasped in shock at his comments and said, "What!?"

"Do I appear to offer free food?" he retorted.

"I don't have any on me right now. I'll give it to you tomorrow." When he nodded, i said, "This is why you don't have any friends,"

"Neither do I need any," The chat came to an end while he lay in bed. Although his statements had undoubtedly made me uneasy, there was something almost charming about his confident demeanour.

His phone rang as I was enjoying the meal. He urged me to be quiet while he took the call. Why doesn't he answer the call outside instead of asking me to keep silent?

"Yes, father." He answered the call and said in a submissive manner. "I have things to catch up on here so I can't make it home this weekend," he said after a lengthy pause.

Someone is at last speaking courteously. I disregarded him and carried on consuming the twenty dollar meal in front of me. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands once I was done. Austin appeared to be leaving when I returned to the room. He commanded, "Let's go."

"Where?" I asked as I dried it by rubbing it off on my shirt.

"I have to go somewhere now."

"No worries. I'll crash here. Go wherever you want to go." And sat on the bed.

"Well, I'll lock the room before I leave."

"I'll accompany you then."

I retrieved my bag, and we both exited the room together. As Austin was locking his room, I realised Austin's room was next to Dean, my ex-boyfriend's room. To see Dean, I peered through the glass.

"What are you doing?" said Austin.

"You can make people forget, right?" I questioned, pointing at the room in front of me.

"What?"

He questioned me as I tried to pierce the lock, "What are you trying to do?"

"Something which belongs to me is inside."

When I opened the door and went inside, I saw Dean and his flatmate soundly dozing on their respective beds. I moved stealthily and opened the cabinet to look inside for what I was looking for. I discreetly walked out of the room after retrieving it, closing the door behind me.

I said, "Got it!" while holding the necklace in front of Austin. "Now let's head out before someone else sees us."

"You steal things from other people?"

"That is mine," I said as I slipped it in my pocket. "I gave it to him while we were dating, but when we broke up, he refused to give it back when I asked for it, so I am taking it back at this time. Do you remember the night you drank my blood? Ofcourse, you would." I paused and said, "I came here to take the necklace back, but you intervened and drank my blood and…"

He left while I was still speaking, seeming disinterested in what I had to say. Rude. I yelled at him and carried on after him feeling rest assured that I got my necklace back.
