LOGINOn the night before my wedding, Sherry Schmidt's male best friend, Cole Graham, suggests playing an auction game. Everyone writes an item up for auction on a card, and the others bid for it. Just like before, I eagerly play along and write something on a card, but no one is interested in bidding on mine. Then Cole boldly reveals his card, which reads, "My first time." The card instantly sends a wave of gasps through the room. "That's wild, Cole! You're really going all out!" Cole doesn't even flinch as he says, "Bid as much as you want. I can afford it." Fueled by alcohol, all the women at the party start bidding. They drive the price from 500 dollars all the way up to 50 thousand dollars. The next second, Sherry, who had shown little interest until then, suddenly makes the highest possible bid. She turns to me and lowers her voice to explain, "Those women are up to no good. I'm helping Cole out because I'm worried he'll get taken advantage of." Even though I felt conflicted, I nod. The next second, Cole grabs her by the arm and pulls her into the bathroom. Through the frosted glass, I can see him pinning Sherry against it and forcing a kiss on her. I stand there in stunned disbelief. Everyone else tries to reassure me. "Don't take it personally. They've been like brothers since they were little. There's no need for them to keep their distance." Looking at the blurry but suggestive scene through the bathroom glass, I suddenly understand something—I'm the one who should be keeping my distance now.

Keep this up, and maybe she'll really be done with you."He looked stubbornly at Sherry and asked, "Right?""Shut up!" Sherry shoved him away. "If all you do is talk nonsense, get your ass back home!"Cole glared at me before storming off. Sherry turned around and was about to say something to me, but I turned and walked back into the restaurant. For the next few days, Sherry didn't show up again. My life returned to normal. I did occasionally notice someone watching me from a distance, though. Then, just as I walked out of the office one day, Cole stopped me. "We need to talk."He took me to a nearby coffee shop and spoke bluntly. "Sherry's practically losing her mind over you. She's barely eating or drinking. Do you really have the heart to do this to her? I never would've guessed someone as mild-mannered as you could have a hea
Isaac's POVI had just started settling into my new company when Sherry messaged me. She clearly still couldn't believe I would really leave her.I gave her messages a cursory glance before blocking her number. I was done putting up with her arrogance and the disdainful treatment from her friends.A week after I left, Sherry's friends took turns calling me."Sherry's practically losing her mind trying to find you. Just call her back. Don't be so heartless.""If we wronged you somehow, you could've taken it out on us. Sherry didn't do anything wrong.""Is this because of Cole? He's already moved to another city and cut ties with Sherry."There was a whole crowd talking over each other on the other end of the phone.I was about to hang up when Sherry finally spoke, her voice trembling with emotion. "Isaac, can't we just talk things out? Do you really have to take things this far? Where are you? I'll come pick you up right now. Let's sit down and talk."I fell silent for a mome
Third-Person POVSherry stared at the security guard in disbelief. "What's going on? I'm definitely the bride! Are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"The guard immediately called over the hotel manager, who checked the records and informed her of the situation."Ms. Schmidt, this wedding is indeed for another couple. Your groom, Mr. Jahn, canceled the wedding himself. He said he wasn't getting married anymore.""What?" Sherry blurted, her frown deepening. She quickly pulled up the refund records. Sure enough, Isaac's signature was right there.Sherry said in disbelief, "How could he have canceled the wedding?"Just then, Cole and the bridesmaids hurried over. After hearing what had happened, Cole let out a mocking laugh. "I didn't expect him to have that much backbone. Who's he trying to make a point to? Is he doing all this just for me to see? Marrying someone like that would be-""Shut up!" Sherry snapped. She had never yelled at him like that before. Cole froze and imm
Third-Person POV"Why… is everything gone?" Sherry stood frozen in the doorway.Every daily necessity that had once filled the room was gone. Isaac's clothes had been cleared out of the closet too.Sherry rubbed her eyes, finally realizing that what she was seeing was real. But after only a second, she let out a cold laugh. "So he ran away from home, huh? It doesn't matter since he'll still come crawling back on the wedding day."She didn't even realize that her grip on the doorknob had tightened as she said that. That evening, Cole showed up at her place with the others and mocked Sherry to her face. "I told you she was a coward. Sure enough, she came back early. What a disappointment."Her friend couldn't help laughing either. "She was acting so tough before. Who would've thought she'd chicken out this fast?"Sherry cleared her throat and nodded toward the bedroom. "If I hadn't come back early, I wouldn't have known Isaac had a backbone. He ran away from home just to get a re
