Isaac's POV

I got up and walked away, but Sherry Schmidt's friends immediately rushed over to stop me.

"Don't leave, Isaac. That's just how Cole is. He's always like this with us, but he knows where to draw the line."

With that, they pushed me back into my seat.

20 minutes later, Sherry finally came out of the bathroom with Cole Graham.

Sherry, who was usually perfectly clearheaded, looked a little dazed. Cole wiped the lipstick from the corner of his mouth and grinned at me.

He teased, "Bet you're stunned, huh? Don't worry. I wouldn't give her my first time that easily. We were just messing around in there."

Sherry rolled her eyes at him and jokingly scolded, "You're always fooling around."

Then, she draped my coat over my shoulders as if nothing had happened. "You didn't actually take him seriously, did you? That's just how he is. Nothing happened in there. We were putting on a show for everyone."

The smudged makeup on her face and the unmistakable hickeys on her neck told me exactly what had happened.

The atmosphere in the private room quickly livened up again. Sherry sat back down beside me, but when I spoke, my voice was unnervingly calm.

I said, "Let's call off the wedding."

The room fell completely silent.

Cole scoffed and grumbled, "Don't tell me you really can't take a joke. We get way crazier than this when you're not around. I was actually holding back tonight. You're making a huge deal out of nothing…"

As he complained, everyone else looked at me with contempt. It was as if they were mad at me for being overly sensitive and ruining everyone's fun.

Sherry seemed embarrassed at my reaction.

She sighed helplessly and said, "We're all going to spend time around each other after we get married. Cole has been my best friend since we were kids. You're putting me in a really difficult position."

She only thought about how awkward things were for her. However, she never stopped to consider what it felt like for me to sit there and watch them act so intimate with each other.

The tension dragged on until Cole suddenly pulled a wedding ring out of his underwear.

He waved it triumphantly in front of us. "Sherry, you accidentally dropped your ring down my underwear just now. You better hurry! I'm auctioning it off right now. Pay up if you want it back."

That was the wedding ring I'd painstakingly picked out. I'd waited more than six months for the designer to finish making it. Now, it had ended up in another man's underwear.

My eyes reddened, but Sherry merely gave him an indulgent smile.

It turned out I was the only one who had ever taken this wedding seriously.

Seeing the look on my face, Sherry snatched the ring back and slipped it onto my finger. "He was just trying to liven things up. Don't take him so seriously."

Then, she playfully kicked him.

I took the ring off right away and shoved her hand away. Then, I slipped it onto Cole's ring finger.

"Congratulations on your wedding," I said.

Isaac's POVSherry froze and stared at me in disbelief.Cole scoffed and cut in. "Can you cut the act already? She's giving you an out. Just take it. Keep this up, and maybe she'll really be done with you."He looked stubbornly at Sherry and asked, "Right?""Shut up!" Sherry shoved him away. "If all you do is talk nonsense, get your ass back home!"Cole glared at me before storming off. Sherry turned around and was about to say something to me, but I turned and walked back into the restaurant. For the next few days, Sherry didn't show up again. My life returned to normal. I did occasionally notice someone watching me from a distance, though. Then, just as I walked out of the office one day, Cole stopped me. "We need to talk."He took me to a nearby coffee shop and spoke bluntly. "Sherry's practically losing her mind over you. She's barely eating or drinking. Do you really have the heart to do this to her? I never would've guessed someone as mild-mannered as you could have a hea

She clearly still couldn't believe I would really leave her.I gave her messages a cursory glance before blocking her number. I was done putting up with her arrogance and the disdainful treatment from her friends.A week after I left, Sherry's friends took turns calling me."Sherry's practically losing her mind trying to find you. Just call her back. Don't be so heartless.""If we wronged you somehow, you could've taken it out on us. Sherry didn't do anything wrong.""Is this because of Cole? He's already moved to another city and cut ties with Sherry."There was a whole crowd talking over each other on the other end of the phone.I was about to hang up when Sherry finally spoke, her voice trembling with emotion. "Isaac, can't we just talk things out? Do you really have to take things this far? Where are you? I'll come pick you up right now. Let's sit down and talk."I fell silent for a mome

Third-Person POVSherry stared at the security guard in disbelief. "What's going on? I'm definitely the bride! Are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"The guard immediately called over the hotel manager, who checked the records and informed her of the situation."Ms. Schmidt, this wedding is indeed for another couple. Your groom, Mr. Jahn, canceled the wedding himself. He said he wasn't getting married anymore.""What?" Sherry blurted, her frown deepening. She quickly pulled up the refund records. Sure enough, Isaac's signature was right there.Sherry said in disbelief, "How could he have canceled the wedding?"Just then, Cole and the bridesmaids hurried over. After hearing what had happened, Cole let out a mocking laugh. "I didn't expect him to have that much backbone. Who's he trying to make a point to? Is he doing all this just for me to see? Marrying someone like that would be-""Shut up!" Sherry snapped. She had never yelled at him like that before. Cole froze and imm

Isaac's clothes had been cleared out of the closet too.Sherry rubbed her eyes, finally realizing that what she was seeing was real. But after only a second, she let out a cold laugh. "So he ran away from home, huh? It doesn't matter since he'll still come crawling back on the wedding day."She didn't even realize that her grip on the doorknob had tightened as she said that. That evening, Cole showed up at her place with the others and mocked Sherry to her face. "I told you she was a coward. Sure enough, she came back early. What a disappointment."Her friend couldn't help laughing either. "She was acting so tough before. Who would've thought she'd chicken out this fast?"Sherry cleared her throat and nodded toward the bedroom. "If I hadn't come back early, I wouldn't have known Isaac had a backbone. He ran away from home just to get a re

Isaac's POVA few hours before I was supposed to leave, I took a cab to the psychiatric hospital to visit my dad. When I walked into his room, I was stunned to find a man and a woman standing beside his bed.As I got closer, I realized it was Sherry and Cole.A bad feeling immediately rose in my heart. "Why did you bring him here?" I asked Sherry.Cole pursed his lips and answered for her. "I'm not some kind of monster. Why can't I come visit Mr. Jahn? I even bought him a new outfit."I turned around.Dad was wearing a white burial robe. He was clapping happily at his reflection in the mirror and saying, "Looks good."My mind went completely blank. "What the hell is wrong with you two?"I was about to confront Cole, but Sherry immediately stepped in front of me. "Cole meant well. He just didn't know what it was. He thought it symbolized a long and healthy life."Cole raised an eyebrow and nodded. "I didn't know what a burial robe was. I just thought it looked elegant, so I b

Isaac's POVThe next morning, I was woken by the raucous laughter coming from the living room. When I opened the door, I found all of Sherry's friends gathered outside.Cole was sitting in the middle, wearing my wedding suit. "This thing is way too tight. On the actual wedding day, everyone's going to get a full view of the groom's pathetic physique."The room erupted in laughter that shook the ceiling. "Exactly! Haha!"Sherry just sat there without saying a word in my defense. The moment she saw me, the smile disappeared from her face. She came over and reached for my hand. She said, "Why didn't you reply to my messages last night? You had me worried sick all night."I ignored her and looked at her with bloodshot eyes. "How can you just sit there and listen while they make those disgusting jokes about me?"She froze and searched for the right words to say.Cole immediately stepped in to smooth things over. "How is it disgusting? It's right there in the open. What exactly ar
