From behind me, Dale’s voice cut through the moment, startling him. “Did she just...?”

My gaze remained fixed on her, never leaving her. “I don’t know. But whatever it is, I’m not letting her go.”

“Stay back, Alex.” I hear Dale’s voice; he sounds shocked.

“What is happening?” I ask, paving a way for him so that he can attend to her.

Just as he was about to check her pulse, I heard my name again.

“Alex, are you there?” This time, it was clearer than before.

Subconsciously, I pushed Dale aside before casting him an apologetic look, to which he nodded with a smile.

“Brooke, I'm here. I'm here, Brooke,” I say, her emerald green eyes staring back at me but in a weak manner.

“Are you seriously awake?” I ask, not believing what I'm seeing, while she gives me a weak smile.

“What happened? My head feels so heavy like it's going to fall,” she replies weakly; her voice cracks; I can hear how she struggles to speak.
