Chapter 2

Auteur: Snail
That night, Sebastian didn't return at all, even though he had once promised me that he would be the first to stay by my side if I were even the slightest bit hurt.

Now, however, the person he was with was Stella.

The next morning, I got ready to leave the hospital. The healer urged me to stay for another two days to recover, but I refused as I would be leaving the Silverwolf pack in two days. Before I did, I still had many things I needed to pack.

My clothes, books, documents to prove my identity…

There were also the random keepsakes Matt had left for me—his very first baby tooth, a candy wrapper he had sneakily hidden away, a small gray jacket…

Last but not least, there was the wolf-fang necklace he had gifted me on his fifth birthday. It was also the very last item he left behind before his death.

I gripped the necklace tightly, my heart hurting so much that I gasped for breath. Forcing the tears back, I carefully placed the necklace into my suitcase. I planned to take it with me.

That evening, Sebastian brought Stella back to the manor. Several housekeepers carrying suitcases trailed behind them.

When Sebastian spotted me, a distinctly uncomfortable look flashed through his eyes.

"Stella needs peace and quiet to recover, and her house is… not that peaceful, so I brought her here to the manor to stay for a few days."

At that moment, a housekeeper approached him and asked softly, "Alpha Sebastian, do we bring the luggage to that room?"

Sebastian nodded. "Yes, Stella will be staying there temporarily."

The room the housekeeper was pointing at was none other than Matt's room.

I widened my eyes in disbelief, and even the nearby housekeepers had hesitant expressions.

Pretending to be considerate, Stella said to Sebastian with fake concern, "Sebby, maybe we should forget it. I can just stay in a normal guest bedroom. After all, that room is…"

She didn't finish her sentence, but Sebastian still frowned slightly.

"Your body is still recovering, so the healer said it's important that you get enough rest. That room has the best natural lighting and is the quietest. Besides, it's now empty anyway. It's fine since you're just staying for a few days."

In an instant, all the color drained from my face. It would seem that, without my knowing, Sebastian had already come to accept Matt's death, even going so far as to erase any hint of his existence.

If this had been in the past, I would've definitely gotten into an argument with him and demanded an answer for how he could bring himself to do that.

Yet now, I simply slowly looked away before turning and leaving without another word.

Sebastian hadn't expected me to react like that and took two uneasy steps forward, as though he wanted to say something more to me.

However, Stella grabbed hold of his arm. "Sebby, I'm still feeling a little unwell. Could you help me to the room?"

In the end, Sebastian relented and helped her upstairs to Matt's room. He didn't come down again for the rest of the night.

The next day, I woke up, only to discover that the manor had undergone significant changes.

The dining table now had an extra set of breakfast tailored to Stella's tastes, while the living room couch now displayed her favorite throw pillows. Even the fresh flowers by the staircase had been switched to her favorite flowers—white daisies.

I halted in my tracks for a moment. Then, instead of continuing into the living room, I headed straight for my study.

Upon opening the door, I discovered that Stella was sitting right at my desk, where I usually handled the pack matters. When she saw me enter, she put on an anxious and panicked expression as she stood up.

"Rina, Sebby said that the natural lighting in here is good, so he told me to come here."

I didn't bother responding to her, merely gathering up the documents on my desk before turning to leave.

However, Sebastian blocked my way. Ruffling his hair in an irritated manner, he attempted to explain to me, "It's not good for Stella's recovery if she's always cooped up in her room. Besides, she's just sitting here for a bit. Don't be mad."

I took a step back before answering indifferently, "It's fine. She can sit there. I'm not mad."

A trace of surprise and confusion flickered across Sebastian's face, as though he hadn't expected me to be so generous. What he was unaware of was that after Matt's death, I no longer cared about anything here, and that included him.

That evening, I had only just finished packing the last of my belongings when a team of guards clad in silvery-white cloaks silently appeared before me.

"Ms. Irina Sharpe, the Temple sent us here," the captain of the guards said respectfully. "Tomorrow morning, your mate bond with Alpha Sebastian will thoroughly dissolve. At that time, we'll escort you to the Temple."

I was silent for a few seconds before nodding gently.

At last, it was time for me to leave.

Sebastian's voice was very hoarse, like he had traveled a great distance before finally arriving at his final destination.Nonetheless, I simply watched him quietly. There was no surprise or resentment, just calm, as though I were looking at a stranger. That sort of gaze had Sebastian's heart clenching in his chest. In the past, no matter how angry or upset I was, I would always have some sort of emotion in my eyes as I stared at him. Now, however, there was nothing. He instinctively took a step forward, but when his eyes drifted down to the priestess robe I wore, he stopped in his tracks.Under the pale light from the moon, the silvery-white robe glowed faintly. It was a symbol of being one of the Moon Goddess' priestesses, but it now also served as an insurmountable distance between them."I know that I was wrong. I've already looked into the truth behind Matt's death and thrown Stella in the dungeon for it. It was my fault for not believing in you. I was the one who killed our

The first month after leaving the Silverwolf pack, I woke up almost every night due to nightmares.I would always dream of Matt. Sometimes, his entire body would be covered in blood as he stood in the distance and kept calling for me. Other times, he would be crying as he asked me why I hadn't saved him.One thing was the same across all the nightmares, though—I would always wake up with tears dampening my pillow. The place the priestesses lived in was incredibly quiet. There was no arguing or scheming going on, and there certainly weren't any of those suffocating memories haunting me.Even so, it took me a long time to get used to life here. When I had first arrived at the Temple, I would always instinctively wake up at the crack of dawn and head out of my room to handle my pack duties, as was my habit. However, upon stepping out of my room, I would abruptly remember that all that had nothing to do with me anymore.I was a priestess of the Moon Goddess Temple now, nothing more.

Sebastian could hardly believe what he was hearing. More than anyone, he was well aware of what becoming a priestess meant."That's impossible! Irina is my Luna and the most distinguished she-wolf in the entire Silverwolf pack! Why would she give up on such a dignified position and join the Temple?"Once I became a priestess of the Moon Goddess Temple, I would have to serve the Moon Goddess for the rest of her life, which meant that anything between us was no longer possible.Sebastian wasted no time striding out, all the while instructing Marcus, "Get the car ready and gather the guards. I'm going to the Temple."However, he never even got to leave the manor when an old but powerful voice rang out behind him."Alpha Sebastian, you can't go there."At the entrance to the conference hall, all seven members of the Council of Elders had gathered without him knowing. The First Elder leaned against his staff as he gazed at Sebastian calmly. "The Moon Goddess Temple is a hallowed plac

Stella's knees went weak, but she still firmly denied everything, "No, I didn't do it… Sebby, you have to believe me. I love you so much! Why would I harm your pup?"Sebastian suddenly laughed, though the sound was anything but amused. It sounded so cold that it sent shivers down Stella's spine."You love me? So that justifies you standing by and doing nothing as a pup dies?"If possible, Stella paled even further. At this point, she was finally realizing that Sebastian would never believe her again. With a thump, she dropped to her knees and threw her arms around his leg in a tight grip."Sebby, I was wrong. I was just too scared at the time! I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to save him! I was worried that you would blame me because of that! I really didn't mean for him to die!"Slowly crouching in front of her, Sebastian uttered in a deceptively gentle tone that hid the frost beneath, "Did you know? After Matt's death, Irina had nightmares every single night. She told me co

Sebastian didn't rest at all for the next two days, and the light in his study remained on even through the night.Marcus had placed the results of their investigation onto the desk in front of him, and the contents of the report left Sebastian feeling deeply unsettled. It seemed like my departure had been planned, as all my luggage had been packed beforehand. Even the Luna's duties of keeping the ceremonial records and handling other pack matters had been passed on to the elders before I left.As it turned out, I had been planning to leave ever since our pup died.A suffocating feeling wrapped around Sebastian, and his heart ached dully in his chest. "Irina, how could you bear to leave me?" he whispered. At that moment, Marcus rushed into the study."Alpha Sebastian, we've discovered that before Luna Irina left, she repeatedly looked into the records of the day Matt died. There appears to be something suspicious about the members of the patrol team that conducted the search-and-

Sebastian refused to believe that I had truly left. After all, this was my home, and I was the Silverwolf pack's Luna. Besides, I loved him so much that I was even willing to sacrifice my own happiness for him over and over again. How could I have possibly left, just like that?Forcing down the unease clamoring within him, he rushed back to the manor as quickly as he could. However, when he opened the door to my room, he was utterly stunned. The room was empty. All the clothes in the closet were gone, along with the books on the shelves and the photos on the desk. Even the potted plant that I had been keeping by the windowsill for the past few years had been taken away. The entire room was clean, eerily so, as though nobody had ever lived there. The air seemed to leave Sebastian's lungs, and he struggled to breathe."Impossible… Why would she leave…" he muttered to himself. After a long while of silence, he suddenly snapped his head up."Send people out to search for her righ
