4. Kate

Jane, watching her twin, walked to the building. It was an unexpected move of Lane and why she was here? She opened the driver's door and followed her sister to the building. Heart thumping loudly every step she took, her best friend Kate was in the same building acting as one of the guests of the suspected murderer. They had a plan to get the suspect in act of transaction of the drugs.

And now this, the building she was into was a hotel, and this moment having a grand celebration was being held by Rofeller family who owned the said structure. One of the guest was the suspect murder and drug seller, Christopher Edmonton, and according to their intel, this night, a great deal of drug transaction will take place during the event.

Of course, Jane had the list of people to be here and no Lane Adair was on the list. She gave her fake invitation to the two guards in the entrance door of the hotel that lead to the grand party hall, and one of the guy looked at her with suspicion before he nodded and opened the door.

The blaring sound of classic music filled her ears, along with the chatters of the people in elegant dress and coat. Face filled with exhilaration, and somewhere merrily dancing on the dance floor. No one glimpsed at her as she swayed towards where Kate standing talking to a couple near the stage. But her gaze dashed to her twin sister, arm wrapped to a man she had never seen before, his looked screaming of attention and the way he stand, telling you he had authority and money the way he dressed in the crisp expensive coat and tie. Not that older to Lane. Who is that guy with her? In her expression she had never seen to her twin, a joy and at ease with the man.

They have known each other for a long time. Her twin does not show that expression unless the person with her was more than she knows and to be with. Did her mother know about this man? She hid on the peoples when Lane glanced in her direction. It's not a good idea to see her here. It's not of the plan, and a great raid would take place later. She need to get Lane away before it happened.

Jane grabbed her partner Kate when she saw her leading the direction of the bathroom, a shocked was on her face. “Jane, why are you here?” Kate whispered, looking at her surrounding and felt relieve when there’s no one look at where they were.

The two went to the hallway path of the bathroom, Kate turning off her earpiece before they went inside the ladies' powder room. “My twin sister is here, so I followed her. Have you seen her with a good-looking man?”

Kate pressed her lips and applied a red lipstick in her thin lips, she wore an elegant black dress while Jane a simple blue dress and even she did not look at the square wide mirror, she could picture out her messy bun style hair and she did not try of prettying herself with this for it’s not important to her to be with the event. Yes, she mess it up, but for the sake of her twin, she can’t let her in danger.

“Yes, it’s Sebastian King,” Kate answered, applying a foundation on her face. Jane leaned against the sink, staring at the close door, her hand clutching the phone tightly. The name look familiar to her and as far as she knows the King's was well known here in LV City, and one of the top wealthy family. For what may be the reason her twin with the man, she hopes Lane will be safe to him unless…

“Is he talking part to the transaction?” she blurted, her face whitened.

Kate placed the foundation in her pursed and smiled sadly at Jane. Jane cussed, and left Kate dashing to where she last seen her sister, but the grand hall was so dark. The main event was taking place.

“Officer Adair, are you in your spot?” a man's voice in her earpiece.

“No, I need to get my twin sister out of here,” Jane in a pleading tone. She needed time to get Lane out of the place.

She closed her eyes, hearing the cuss of the man, and she gritted her teeth. “Officer Adair, you need to stick to the plan! Go back to your position, now!”

She wanted to reason out however, the light suddenly turned on, and the elegant grand place turn into an eerie dark place. The lights become red with blue, and more people where here, and mostly wearing black dresses. This time will she disobeyed the chief officer's words. Right now, she needs her sister to get out of here. A rock music was being played.

She entered the place, walking discreetly as she simply finding Lane. The chatters were all about the main event and the money they were dealing. It was her first time being in the den of wealthy people's secret events, but it bothered her why her twin was here. A gasped left her mouth when someone grabbed her arm, and when she turned, it was Kate looking troubled.

“The chief is so angry at what you are doing, Jane. Go back and I promise to you that your sister will be safe.”

“Kate, I can’t… what if—“

“Trust me, Jane, I promise it to you. Just go now before the plan mess.” Kate's eyes pleaded her, and Jane smiled.

“Thank you, Kate.”

Jane waited at her car. Of what reason she’s always in the safe whenever there’s a risky situation because of her being an Adair. She hated it, feeling the princess treatment given to her for being three months on her job. On her earpiece, she heard the plan going on, and then the signal of the raid. Her phone rung at her side, the name of Lane was on the screen and she grabbed it.

“Lane, where are you? How are you?” Jane's eyes widened hearing the sobs on the line.

“Help me, Jane, help me please,” Lane's faint voice full of fear. Her senses telling her she was in a great danger but Kate promise to protect her twin and be safe. But what was happening?

“Lane, where are you? What happened? Breathed in and out, tell me?” she said in a concerned worry voice. The chilliness of the car air con seep though her body, and she kept her mind in focus, not thinking any negative or else it will not help her think.

“They want to kill me, help me, I turn on my gps, Jane, help me before they — “Then the line died.

“Lane? Lane?” She took a deep breathed, her hands shaking as she tried to call Kate. The raid was going on, she throw the earpiece in so much annoyance. Adding more when Kate can’t be reached.

What should she do? Tapping her hands on the dashboard of her car as she clicked her tongue. Turning on the gps location and the red dot pointed her at the hotel.

Jane went out of her car, clutching the gun on her right, walking toward the hotel’s basement, following the location of her sister. Some of the police were on there. She hide herself, waiting for the five to go to the exit door and she dash off to the other door leading to the stairs. Her heart beat so fast and swallowed many times. Her attention to the surrounding, whenever she saw some of her colleague, she hide herself or even crouched. It’s a big penalty for her if they know she was here and disobey the chief order, not now. She needs to save her sister. Every step she took in the stairs, the deep her fear dig into her core and the idea if what if Lane died and she did not save her?

When Jane reached the rooftop, she was out of breath, holding the gun while she kept alert to the area. It was dark, but the faint light of the moon became her hope. She walked to the area, and suddenly she yelp in cry when something hit her head causing her to fall to the cold floor. She tried to get up, but the pain in her head made her dizzy. Her gun flew away a meter from her. She touched her head, feeling the liquid on there, yet the sticky irony smell realized her it was a blood.  If whoever did this had Lane.

“Jane!” she heard the scream of her sister in front of her, who was on the floor, hand and feet bound.

Jane stood up and got her gun before the black figure could hit her again.Pointed the gun to the man. “Who are you?” she asked, trying not to feel the pain in her head.

Yet her eyes slowly widened when she saw who it was, a wicked smile displayed on his face. “Jane Adair,” he said in a deep tone. The man who was with her twin sister, Sebastian King.

“Why you are doing this?”

Sebastian stared at her back, and smile even more causing the hair of her skin stood up. “Why? Would you ask me why? Can’t your logical, smarty brain give you an answer? Would you think I am doing this because of being here?” The man gestured his hands before pointing his held a gun at her.

“The biggest betrayal is the one you don’t expect you to be the one to betray you. Blood is not thicker rather hurt, disgust, and despair. Isn’t it?” Sebastian added, and Jane tried to comprehend his words.

“I don’t know what you are talking about. I’ll kill you first, before you could kill me and my twin sister,” she warned. Jane was surprised to see the amusement in the man's face.

“Kill? I am not killing anyone here, J—“

“Jane! Look at your back,” Kate suddenly shouted at her, running toward her, yet before she could look, she heard a bang and she saw her sister holding a gun. She felt her world stopped, did her twin sister shoot her? Why?

But her sense comeback when she saw Kate on the ground, blood on her body and her eyes widened and she gasped. “No! Kate! No!”

“I am sorry, Jane, I am sorry, I did not!” Lane's crying voice as she ran in Jane’s direction. “Kate… Kate… is the one who places me here, and… and… she bound me… she wanted me to die.” Tears streaming at Lane's face full of fear. She kneeled at Jane's side. “I shoot her because she wanted to shoot you, Jane. I am sorry.”

Jane sat on the floor as her tears streak on her face, could not believe of what happened.
