Sovia's POV

In order to break my mother’s grip—I need an Alpha.

Someone strong and powerful.

I need to bond with an Alpha to unleash my wolf because she was sealed.

The reason? My mother always said it was for protection—now? I don’t believe so.

“My lady! My lady!”

I groaned at the sharp voice. The rough shake jerked me from my sleep. Morning sunlight illuminated the room, making my gaze squint for a moment.

Brown eyes peered into mine curiously. Long dark hair woven in braids draped past her shoulders.

It was her...

Vanessa.

Was this real?

I blinked once. Then twice.

When she placed her soft hand on my cheek, I froze. It was.

Springing up, I pulled her into my arms sharply. “You’re here. You’re alive.”

Her body was stiff, but I didn’t care. “My… my lady, you’re scaring me.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.”

“It’s okay,” she said softly, rubbing my back.

“Hmm.” I sobbed silently.

“Don’t worry. Once you get mated to Prince Janova, no one will be able to bully you,” Vanessa said.

If only she knew about our past.

Pulling back, I took her hand. “I won’t be marrying Janova. He’s not a good person.”

“Huh? But you’ve always wanted to marry him? Did something happen?”

Vanessa was naturally carefree and innocent. I’d like for her to remain that way. She wasn’t just a servant. She was the only one who stood with me in the past.

“Nothing serious. I don’t want to be his mate.”

“I don’t understand.”

Vanessa blinked and started scratching the side of her head.

“But I trust you. Now we have to get going.”

She tried to pull me up, but I frowned at the dull ache in my spine. “Where?”

“The main hall. Nanny Nicola is on her way. Today is your birthday, remember?”

That’s right. Today was my 20th birthday—the day Janova supposed to announce our engagement in my past life.

***

Ball gowns, high society, business tycoons. My mother never missed a chance to flaunt her two untouched daughters: Sovia and Lydia Henric.

I was her most prized possession. Because of that, I was not allowed to speak to men unless necessary, and even then, only with a maid beside me.

But tonight, I had plans of my own.

“Wow, isn’t that Lady Sovia? My goodness, she’s beautiful.”

“She’s gorgeous.”

Their praises fawned against my skin as I moved.

I already tore up the engagement agreement, but a part of me was still worried that Janova would announce it. Once it reached the public, it would be much harder to deal with.

“Where the hell is Janova?” I rasped.

Suddenly, a chill crept up my skin.

Like a magnetic pull, I lifted my gaze as the ballroom stretched out before me, chandeliers sparkling over the polished floors.

And then I saw him—that familiar person, leaning lazily on the balcony railing.

Prince Zadekiah.

Why was he here? I squeezed my palm, trying to remember if he showed up like this in my past life.

No. Something wasn’t right.

I should take my gaze away, but I couldn’t.

Lazy gray eyes met mine. His hair was damp and tangled, pinned loosely with wet strands falling around his face.

He’s handsomely captivating, a faint voice purred at my chest.

He blinked slowly, tilting his head as if weighing me.

My chest tightened. My heart pounded as a strange force stirred, a low purr vibrating in my bones.

I took a step back. Recognition flicked through my senses.

My wolf… why was she reacting to him?

“Sovia!” a voice called. I spun sharply, like I had been caught doing something I was not supposed to do.

“Umm, hi.”

She returned the greeting with a smile.

“Happy birthday.”

“Thank you,” I responded, trying to act like I didn’t feel the weight of his stare.

Or how he made goosebumps rush up my arms.

“Are you okay? You look pale,” the lady asked with a flicker of concern, but my mind was somewhere else.

My wolf never reacted to anyone—the few times she did, it was with Janova because he was my fated mate.

Why was this different?

I must find out what this means. So I left the lady and started walking up the staircase.

When I reached the top, it was empty.

“Where is he?”

No response.

“Could it be that I imagined it?”

No, his stare was too real… too intense.

"Little Red."Just as I turned to leave, my nose scrunched involuntarily, catching a whiff of thick musk laced with something dark. “Little Red.”

The hair on my arms rose as my feet refused to move.

I spun once.

No one was there.

My heart started to thump harder. His voice drifted against my ear. “Why are you here, Little Red?”

Little Red?

Only he called me that.

“You…” Heat flared across my face when I felt a presence hover dangerously close at my back.

“Caught you staring at me. Does your mate know you’re drooling over another man?”

I swallowed, searching for my voice.

Coming here to meet him was a big mistake, but standing so close only confirmed how right I’d been to worry.

That familiar warmth pulsed inside my chest.

Only an Alpha can remove the bind they placed on my wolf.

Was fate leading me to this man?

I turned, bumping into his chest. His face was right in front of mine.

“My mate doesn’t.”

“Interesting.”

He pulled back, hands in his pockets, glancing toward the hallway.

“Leave. You’re disturbing my solitude.”

“It’s my event. If there’s anyone who should leave, it should be you…”

His mouth twitched with annoyance. “Absurd.”

He began to turn when, instinctively, I grabbed his arm. We both froze, not sure why my body was reacting on its own.

But his warmth made me want to lean in.

Only an Alpha can help me. And there was one in front of me.

In our past life, he offered himself to me. Now, I wanted it.

Being Janova’s brother made him somewhat exciting, but a man of his nature cannot be trusted.

“I… I need your help.” The words sounded nothing like the bravery I was trying to summon.

“I kill. Not help.” Something caught between his gaze as he lowered his eyes to my grip. “You are different. I can smell it.”

I blinked. What did he mean?

Pushing the thoughts aside, I continued. “I want you to be my mate.”

He pulled his arm free and adjusted his sleeve, looking away.

“Tell my brother I’m not interested in games.”

He didn’t know it, but I was placing a bet on him. With my help, Janova became the Alpha King. I knew how much he worshipped that seat.

But what if I snatched what he most desired—it would crush him.

ZadeKiah might be exactly what I need. Protection, and a weapon to ruin his brother.

I stepped closer. Dangerously close.

“Become my Mate.”

His hand lifted to cup my chin. Not gentle. Not rough. Just firm.

“I see life in your eyes, Little Red. But you understand what happens if I accept?”

My face heated. Tension forced my knees to press hard against each other. “Yes.”

His thumb brushed my lips.

“Everyone in Babel knows you’re head over heels for my useless half-brother.” His voice was low. “Prove this isn’t another one of his games.”

My heart slammed hard enough to ache, like my body already knew him. “How?”

“Kiss me.”

My lips parted. “What?”

  • When Destiny Brings A Second Chance Mate   Chapter 81: Climbing into his Bed

Sovia’s POVI was done waiting. One minute, he was staring at me like something he needed or he would lose it. Next, he was a completely different person. Either he was possessed… or he simply didn’t know what he wanted. Or he didn’t want me.Either way tonight, he would make a choice. The line he always drew—we would cross it. I stared at myself one last time in the mirror. Hair curled to perfection—but it was nothing compared to the way Vanessa used to style them. Her face hung painfully over my vision for a moment. If Vanessa was here—she would stop me from making such a drastic decision that could get me killed. The lingerie was a red see-through piece, revealing the lines of my curves, selling the sinful intention I had for tonight. My head tilted as I took the perfume and pressed the cover. Its sweet fragrance made my heart flutter. It was time to do something stupid. I wore the robe, and didn't even tie the belt. It was already almost midnight—everyone sho

  • When Destiny Brings A Second Chance Mate   Chapter 80: Hidden Feelings

Zadekiah’s POV The feel of her lips against the base of my ear made something feral crack within me. I could still picture her lips all over mine when she kissed me back. That was one impulsive, stupid decision. Kissing a woman who was meant to be my enemy like she was the only thing keeping me sane. I turned to Sovia who was beside me, chin pressed against my shoulder. Her lips parted like a deadly invitation. And do you know the worst part about kissing her—I loved it. Now, I craved it like a cure to a disease spreading over my body—like a curse eating my soul alive. And the truth was… I foresaw this. Damn it. I knew eventually my control would crack. And the facade would fade. Because the truth was, I’ve always wanted her to be mine. Even when she belonged to my brother. I watched her… watched them. I’m a fool. And now being this close and still holding on to my shred of dignity—control was nerve-breaking. Suffocating. And maybe even delusional. Because eventuall

  • When Destiny Brings A Second Chance Mate   Chapter 79: A Real Kiss

Sovia’s POV The closer his footsteps came, the more undeniable it became. I spun, the anticipation clawing at the back of my throat. It was him—Zadekiah Lockham. “You came…” The rest of my words got lost in my mouth as he grabbed the back of my neck and closed the distance between us with his lips. My eyes widened. Did he just kiss me? Moon Goddess, why was my heart racing so much? I couldn’t breathe. Could barely think. My fingers just curled into his shirt, trying to keep steady. Strong hands carved around my waist, forcing me to match the temperature of his body. His tongue slid in the moment a gasp choked from my lips. His head tilted, capturing my lips again before I pulled back to breathe. Each kiss was nothing short of hunger—possessive and demanding. I liked it. I liked it every time he groaned into my mouth. And it scared me. I'd kissed him before. But this was different. There was no one to impress, no Janova to provoke. For once, his lips were on mi

  • When Destiny Brings A Second Chance Mate   Chapter 78: The Public Humiliation

Sovia’s POV Even as she tried to hide it, the crease between her brows gave her away. Her voice faltered before she forced out, “I have no idea what you are talking about.” “Slander?” I snickered, taking a step back to assess her carefully. “Well, you and I both know the answer.” She bit her lips, and then a figure stepped beside me. His presence was cool, expensive and carried just the right amount of heat. “Greetings, beautiful ladies.” I frowned, sending a side glance at the figure. With the memories from my past life, I don’t think I’d seen him. Another mysterious figure pulled into my world preharps. “Alpha William.” Blossom’s voice was devoid of its previous hostility. Those delicate facades returned to her eyes as she lowered her head with grace. He didn’t even look at her. All attention was fixed on me. I didn’t like it. He had a smile on his face as he stretched out a hand. “Greetings, Lady Sovia from Moonshade Pack.” My brows knotted. My fingers

  • When Destiny Brings A Second Chance Mate   Chapter 77: The Game Begins

Sovia’s POVWait. So Zadekiah was not actually the king’s son?A father should know his son best. At least, that's what people liked to believe. From the conviction in his voice, it was either true… or at least something he genuinely believed.“Your Majesty…” I started, but somehow there was an ache that refused to let the rest of the words form.“Being Zadekiah’s mate already puts you at a disadvantage. The least I can do is make sure you know the extent of what that kind of decision is going to cost you…”My hands trembled for a moment longer than I intended. I balled them into fists, closing the fear before it clawed my insides.“Janova will be Alpha King. It has already been decided a long time ago. It’s a shame you broke your engagement. He would need a strong woman by his side to lead this empire.”I replayed the words over and over until it was the only thing I could hear.If Zadekiah was not the king’s son, there was no way the elders would ever let him take the throne. He was

  • When Destiny Brings A Second Chance Mate   Chapter 76: The Weight of a smile

Chapter 76Sovia’s POVJust as I thought, he was really going to let me walk into the lions' den alone. But what was I thinking? Did I really expect him to listen to me and follow me? He was as stubborn as he was ruthless. Just thinking about him was enough to send my thoughts spiraling.Annoying and stubborn. All that talk about wanting me back to move the gifts—I didn’t understand it either, because all the boxes had already been moved when I returned. So why did he bring me back early? Once the sun went down, the Alpha King had sent a royal envoy to bring me to the event. Zadekiah was nowhere to be found. I wore a fitted black gown that hugged my curves. A little too low at the front. An ash scarf with black streaks along the edges rested around my shoulders. The cold air forced my skin to become tight as I stepped out. “Good evening, my lady.” It was that nanny Beatrice. The one Zadekiah had brought to keep me in check. For a moment I wondered… Was this a way of him

Sovia’s POV His fingers scorched like embers against my skin, but his words were even hotter. In my past life, I had heard rumours about Prince Janova—that he was a cassanova .
