11. Mason.

I got down from the armoured vehicle and stormed straight to the mansion. We ditched the van, since it wasn't a safe option after the terrorist attack. My jacket, I discarded a long time ago leaving me only with a dusty turtleneck sweater.

My annoying twin brother was waiting at the entrance of the mansion. Carl was also there.

Good, he will have to hold his boy back because I would not hesitate to strike his Alpha down if it came to blows with him.

Even if he was my twin brother.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't our favourite compassionate Alpha," Damon mocked me.

I stormed past him and continued in the corridor. I had no time for him, the situation room was much more important.

"What's that? Cat got your tongue?" Damon followed close behind. He didn't mind that he was following me into my side of the mansion.

I turned back and pointed at him. "Don't you dare, mock me. I'm in a foul mood as it is!" My voice, low and steady, carried a silent threat. I hissed and turned away.

Damon looked taken aback, that I had reacted strongly to him. "Your foul mood isn't going to change the fact that innocent civilians died," he retorted.

"What did you say?"

"You heard me. You are so freaking weak, terrorists have to act on your side of the city because they know they can't be caught. Just look at my methods, it doesn't allow for this sort of thing." He smirked at me.

"People died, and you are trying to boast about how peaceful your region is?" I slowly marched towards him. My shoulders were tense, my eyes felt hot. My wolf was coming up on the surface, I could also sense his wolf's connection with mine.

Just a little more, and nobody could stop me.

Damon cocked his head. "Yeah. That's because you are a failure. You are a pathetic failure, even father would roll in his grave if he saw this—"

I swung at him at close range, and it connected neatly on his cheek which made him stagger. His eyes lit up as he held his jaw.

"You piece of shit!" Damon jumped towards me, but Carl was quick to get between the two of us.

Carl struggled to hold my brother back. After all, we were both six feet four and a half inches. "My lord! Calm down! We don't need both of you fighting—" he grunted.

I tried sneaking another blow, but Damien appeared out of the blue and held me back, but he still wasn't enough for me. Almost on cue, Damon and I pushed our beta away with our wolf's strength and grabbed at each other's neck, slugging ourselves in the face with solid punches. It was more like a fight of attrition, the one who dropped first lost.

Suddenly, the corridor was filled with guards who tried to get between us, and they failed terribly because we had partially transformed. And then more guards, members of the special force, and bodyguards had to add to the numbers.

"You piece of shit, you hit like a woman!" Damon cackled with bloodied lips and torn clothes. At least fifty people held him back. His eyes glowed red, signifying he was using his powers just like. mine

I was battered just like him. "Don't you dare talk about my father like that again, you barbarian!" I struggled to break free, but I also had the same men as Damon holding me.

"Calm down, my lords! You don't need to be fighting by this time!" Carl stood between us. Poor man had a torn armour as his lord flung him away.

"That's true, we are at a bad time! The land needs both of you to be rational and not....not like this." Damien appeared, holding his injured arm. I might have flung him too hard away.

Suddenly, there was space between us as the chief of war and the kingdom's security advisers for both sides appeared between us. They were all distinguished men who had served well under my father, and unlike us, they still worked hand in hand sometimes due to past camaraderie.

"Lord Damon, Lord Mason." General Darius, the chief of war acknowledged. "This seems like a bad time for the leaders of our land to fight themselves."

"Leave me the hell alone," Damon grunted. He was released and started arranging his clothes while staring at the general. "It is just a little argument. Surely, that shouldn't be concerning right, brother?"

I nodded and spat a mixture of blood and saliva. "What he said. What's the situation report?" I wiped my mouth.

"We will discuss it another time, my lord." One of the Security advisers said.

"Now seems like a—" he paused and assessed our physical states. "—bad time. Our meeting shall be postponed till tomorrow," General Darius said.

I nodded several times and my head was in the direction of the exit. "The people, the ones who got injured, should be treated in a nice place. I can't believe I'm saying this but I want a curfew to be in effect today. I will leave you to decide the time by yourself, General Darius." I frisked my clothes and started walking away.

"Certainly, my lord." General Darius nodded.

I reached my room and pushed the door open. There was a new but familiar scent in the room, which made me stop at the door.

Oh, the new girl—Emma, she was supposed to start working today. My body felt sore, even though most of my injuries had healed up so I decided to have a warm bath. As I lifted my top off, the door to the bathroom opened.

"Amelia, I'm done over here—" Emma stopped as soon as she saw me. She held an empty pack of toilet fragrance, but suddenly dropped it to the floor. "Oh my—oh my gosh!" She closed her eyes.

"It's okay."

"I didn't—I am so sorry, I didn't see you there!" She apologised immediately. Her eyes went to my chest, and she placed her hands in front of her and looked away.

I realised that I was bare-chested. "Hey, it's okay. You must have come to replace the fragrance in the bath, it's understandable."

She slowly turned to me and noticed the blood on my body. Her face slowly morphed from embarrassed to genuine concern.

"You are hurt, my lord!" She exclaimed.

Before I could say anything, she already grabbed a small bucket and a towel to the bathroom. She folded it with water, walked up to me and looked me in the eyes.

"I know I might be stepping out of bounds, but you are injured, and I can't overlook this."

I looked down at her. She looked really good in the uniform. She was so different from the girl I saw in the marketplace and the girl I had saved from my brother. I felt calm, with her in my presence.

I closed my eyes. "Fine."

    10. Mason. Damien eased the black van into a tight parking space as I peered outside. It was my fourth time outside, undercover as a normal civilian. I did that from time to time, so I could relate to the issue my people were facing. Damien popped the handbrake, activating the parking brake and stared at me. "I repeat for the hundredth time, I don't think this is a good idea, my Lord." I arranged my hood and stared at him, a hint of amusement playing in my eyes. "You are always complaining, Damien. A few years with me and I haven't influenced you enough?" I pulled open the door and stepped outside. The scent of fresh bread wafted past my nose, from a nearby bakery. "My lord, your mask!" Damien gasped and scrambled out the other side. I stared around, and aside from the civilians walking around without a care for the world, I could see my protective detail watching me a hundred meters away. I rolled my eyes and shook my head; they could have been less obvious about it. "My lord,

    9. Emma. "Holy shit!" Amelia closed the door behind me. We were in some sort of storage closet. "I heard the rumours, I didn't know—was it you, the girl that Lord Damon sent out a few days ago? The girl whom Lord Damien had to fight his brother for?" "Actually, that was yesterday but yeah," I admitted. My arm still throbbed where he touched me. Amelia ran her fingers through her hair. "That's crazy." She paced back and forth. "I thought he was going to kill me there and then," I sighed. I sat on a tiny stool, as my heart slowed down. "Tell me about it. I was expecting blood any minute," Amelia admitted. "What?" I was surprised. "Wait—wait, he was really going to kill me?" Amelia sounded pretty convinced he would kill me. "I thought he was probably going to hit me or something, not literally KILL me," I stressed on the word kill. Amelia frowned and straightened up. "Oh my gosh, you really don't know anything? Alpha Damon—" She moved to the door, looked outside and cl

    8. Damon. The incompetence of the workers in the mansion annoyed me, I felt like punching someone in the face. How can the maids be cleaning my room so late? I stormed through the corridor. I didn't care if I was skirting past my side of the mansion. A maid appeared in the opposite direction, slowly approaching. I expected her to run off, like the others, when they saw me, but she continued in her approach, which piqued my interest. I thought my eyes failed me when I recognised that face. It was the wench that appeared yesterday! How dare she show her face here again? She was uniformed, which meant she was working in my mansion! Anger burned like fuel in my veins; she even dared to walk past me as she got close, as if I were some mere servant. My arms shot forward, grabbing her arms and pulling her to the nearest wall available to me. I moved closer to her, my right hand on her upper arm, while my left hand missed her neck on the left, holding the wall to prevent her from es

    7. Emma. I felt midday heat coming, just as I neatly arranged ironed shirts into the baskets and placed them in the Alpha Mason's room. Amelia crouched beside his larger-than-life bed, checking under to see if we had missed anything, but she nodded and got on her feet. "The work here is done, now we rest." She folded her arms. Unlike me, she wasn't in her uniform except for track trousers and a sweater. "The uniform looks good on you." It was strange that she wore no uniform, perhaps she wasn't an ordinary maid or house girl. That would explain why she dealt with the Alpha directly. "Oh, thanks." I glanced down at myself. It felt tight around my waist but I could live with it. I went back yesterday, got most of my things and arrived at the Mansion an hour earlier than Amelia had said. She moaned that I came too early, disrupted her sleep but still carried my bag away before we started work. I turned back to Amelia. "So about my bags, where did you—" a faint, distinct sound emana

    6. Emma. "Follow me," Amelia relayed as she walked to the door. Damien squinted at me as I walked past him but I only avoided his eyes. Maybe he was trying to intimidate me in some way, because I was the new rookie. It was only after we had walked past four corridors and climbed two flights of stairs that Amelia spoke to me. "Your name is Emma?" She stopped in front of a large door, her back to me. I nodded quickly. "Yes, it is."Amelia glanced at me, with a curious frown on her face. "What is your relationship, with the Alpha?"Her question was so random, that I twitched my neck. It tilted my neck awkwardly and she must have seen it. "Sorry, I don't understand.""Forget I asked about it, come in." She walked into a large room. "Okay..." I muttered and followed. We stopped in a giant locker room and she gave me her full attention. "My name is Amelia, I'm not the head maid or anything if you are wondering. I'm just the girl that cleans the Lord's room and living area." she intro
