The room was quiet except for the soft rustle of paper. I sat at the small desk by the window, a black file open in front of me. My fingers moved slowly across the pages, pausing as my eyes scanned each line.

The sharp ring of my phone cut through the silence. I blinked, pulling back from my thoughts and reached for it.

I glanced at the screen before answering, it was an unknown number.
