- Josephine -

Once again I was completely lost in this outrageously large house.

I was still thinking about last night, and Tristan’s unwelcome appearance in my bed. I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything, I must have been overwhelmed by coming here, it surely wouldn’t happen again.

Now, I had to focus on getting to Lord Leven’s study. Everything looked different in the daylight and I must have taken a wrong turn.

Suddenly, I heard a loud crack that startled me. I looked through the window and saw a small carriage taking off down the driveway.

“Oh dear.” A voice came from behind me. I turned around to find the housekeeper, who was also watching the carriage leave.

“Oh hello Mrs….”

“Mrs Crook my Lady”

That was it, I had been told.

“I do apologise. Hello Mrs Crook”

She was smiling at me, but I can’t say it was friendly. Quite like a teacher or nanny who had to smile at you, but there was no affection in it.

“Who was that Mrs Crook?”

She sighed and fiddled with the rag in her hands.

“Oh that was Master Silas. I believe he had cross words with his Father this morning. I don’t suppose he will return until tonight.”

Interesting.

“That’s a shame. Could you show me the way to Lord Leven’s study? I’m afraid I’m rather lost.”

She nodded firmly and off we went.

The door was open, so I peered through the gap into the room. I could see Lord Leven reading a piece of paper intently. I didn’t want to interrupt, but I was already late, so I knocked on the door.

“Enter!”

I pushed the door further, and my heart sank. Standing behind Lord Leven was Tristan. He was illuminated by the large window behind him, and was already smiling at me as I entered the room.

“Good Afternoon Miss Felton. How was your first night here? Did you sleep well?”

My face flushed red immediately, praying he couldn’t read my thoughts.

“Yes, thank you Tristan quite well.”

She furrowed his brows but kept smiling, clearly confused as to why I had suddenly turned into a beetroot.

Lord Leven finally looked up from his paperwork. “Ah yes, Miss Felton. Please take a seat.”

I approached and gently lowered myself into the chair in front of his desk. My breath was becoming shallow, either from the impending conversation, or the fact that Tristan hadn’t taken his eyes off me once since I entered the room.

“Give us a moment alone boy. We will pick this up after lunch.”

“Of course Father.”

Tristan bowed at me as he left the room. “Miss Felton.”

Lord Leven smiled at me and sat back in his chair.

“Good afternoon, did you sleep well?”

He clearly hadn’t been paying attention.

“Yes, thank you my Lord.”

He nodded and poured two glasses of water before handing one to me. I sipped it hoping it would calm my red face, and then placed it down on the desk.

“Good, good, good… I was very sorry to hear about your Father’s death Miss Felton. We were very good friends when we were young men, but I’m afraid we had quite lost touch over the years. I only found out that he had passed when I was notified that you would be my ward.”

I didn’t know that. I thought Lord Leven had been randomly appointed.

“Did my Father request you?”

“Yes, it would seem so. I believe there is only one reason why he would choose me, even after all these years.”

I looked at him expectantly, urging him to continue.

“He knew my feelings on marriage. You see, when we were young we used to go to all of the balls during society season. I’m not surprised your Father didn’t continue to attend them after he married your Mother, he hated the retched things. One Spring we ran into Mary, Lady Leven. She was stunning, the most beautiful creature that I had ever seen. The problem was she was below my status and my Father did not want us to marry. I fought his decision of course, so did your Father. It took 3 years or me refusing matches, refusing balls, and not courting a single woman, before my parents finally relented and we were allowed to marry. Your Father was my best man at our wedding, and he was very impressed at my commitment to Mary. He and I both felt that love was far more important to a commitment than social status. Do you understand my dear?”

“It sounds like you and Lady Leven are very much in love.”

He smiled, clearly thinking of her.

“Yes, I dare say we are. But I believe that your Father chose me to ensure your happiness. If you had been made anyone else’s ward they would have paired you with who they felt was the best prospect, regardless of how you felt.”

Could he be saying that ultimately I can choose my own husband?

“It’s my choice?”

He sat up. “Well, obviously there are some rules, the man has to be fitting to your station.”

I nodded, Tristan and Lord Leven’s maid came to mind.

“But yes Miss Felton, I am willing to consider whomever you choose.”

I smiled and my eyes filled with tears. I couldn’t help it. I had been so afraid that I would be stuck in a loveless marriage, with my soul and spirit slowly being crushed. I dabbed my eyes and returned my gaze to Lord Leven.

“Thank you my Lord. I don’t know how to thank you. I’ve been so frightened.”

He stood and walked around his desk until he was stood beside me. He dropped to his knees and gently took my hand in his.

“Don’t fret child. I will do whatever I can to ensure your happiness.”

We silently shared a smile as he continued to rub my hand.

“Miss Felton, I feel I should tell you that Silas would like to court you. How do you feel about that?”

My heart sank. Silas was so rigid and stern. I couldn’t imagine him smiling, let alone laughing.

“I’m not sure my Lord. I would like to get to know him better, and I am very keen to attend the upcoming balls.”

His smile faded somewhat, that’s not what he wanted to hear. He slowly stood up and made his way back to his chair.

“Certainly, I understand. There is an upcoming Ball this Saturday. Elodie has already had a dress made for you.”

She had? That’s a bit forward.

“Oh?”

“Yes, she’s excited to have a companion to accompany this year.”

Maybe it would be best to go with Elodie, she could keep me out of trouble and fill me in on all of the society gossip. Something tells me she would know everything.

  • When Love Rivals Marriage    I would definitely be doing this again

    - Josephine - I lay there feeling my chest rise and fall. I took a deep breath and attempted to slide the dildo inside of me. I was instantly met with resistance, but I didn’t push. I quickly realised that the experience was supposed to be pleasurable and I had to be in the right state of mind. I placed it next to me on the bed, closed my eyes and started kneading and squeezing at my breasts. It didn’t take long for my nipples to harden and a familiar warmth stirred inside of me. I gently pinched at my nipples, causing me to whimper as I relaxed into the moment. My legs began to tingle, so I gently scratched the top of my thighs and felt them quiver. I tried to remember how I felt in the bathtub this morning as I writhed in the water. Thoughts of Hugo came flooding back. I thought about his strong arms holding me as he looked at me with that devilish grin. I could imagine us back in the ballroom, but this time I pulled him close and wrapped my arms around his neck. I could feel t

  • When Love Rivals Marriage    Was I really going to do this?

    - Josephine - I had begun to look forward to the Leven family dinners. Tristan babbling with his funny jokes and outrageous stories, Elodie filling us all in on the latest gossip, Lady Leven telling us which flowers were blooming next in her garden. It was routine, but a wonderful routine. Lord Leven sat at the top of the table, lovingly watching his family. The only person that stood out was Silas. Goodness knows what he was thinking about. He ate his meal quietly, and only really responded to his mother. Even with his misery, I still looked forward to this nightly ritual. I was having fun, but I was keen to be alone with my new present. “Shall we sit together? I fancy a game of cards” Lady Leven said, looking at us all eagerly. “I think I’m going to head to bed my Lady, Elodie and I had a long day in town.” I replied. “Oh.” She was clearly disappointed. “Another time Miss Felton.” “Yes my Lady.” I reassured her. “I’d love to play another time.” Elodie wasn’t a fool, she knew

  • When Love Rivals Marriage    Thank you Elodie, I love it.

    - Josephine - “He danced with you?” Aria had asked that question repeatedly since I told her about the ball. “Yes Aria! Silas danced with me.” “Goodness.” She was clearly in deep thought as she prepared my bath. I didn’t care about Silas, or what he was trying to achieve. I couldn’t stop thinking about Hugo and his gentle touch. “Your bath is ready my Lady.” I walked over, dropped my robe and climbed inside. The warm water rose around my body as I lowered myself. I sighed deeply as I relaxed in the bath. “Thank you Aria.” She bowed dutifully and quietly left the room. The bath had been perfectly placed by the window. I could see the tops of the trees in the garden, and the sunlight cast rainbows in the water. It was heavenly. I began to wash myself, caressing my naked body. I couldn’t stop thinking about Hugo. How he had held me, and stroked my back with his thumb. I thought about his deep brown eyes, and how they were fixed on me. My nipples were hard and I could feel a

  • When Love Rivals Marriage    I wouldn’t say that Miss Felton

    - Josephine - Elodie looked at me for a moment, then back at Hugo. Eventually, she took my hand and led me towards him. As soon as he saw I was walking over, his devilish grin reappeared. “Hugo.” Elodie addressed him. “This is Miss Felton. She is living with us as our Father’s ward.” I smiled so eagerly that my cheeks began to ache. He took my hand, and gently kissed it. “Hello Miss Felton, it’s a pleasure to meet you. May I have this dance?.” My heart leapt into my throat. I handed Elodie my glass, and she gave me wink before I turned and took Hugo’s hand. He led me onto the dance floor, before turning and slipping his hand around my waist. I could feel my face flushing red at his touch. The music swelled and we began moving across the floor. He was strong but gentle, and held me with the perfect amount of pressure. I so badly wanted to close the gap between us and press my body against his. “How are you finding the countryside Miss Felton? Quite different from the

  • When Love Rivals Marriage    Does she have cause to be jealous?

    - Josephine - I had been waiting years for this moment, my first ball. Aria was rushing around primping and pulling me, making sure I looked perfect. “Pearls my Lady?” I turned to see her nervously holding up two different earrings. “No, I think the sapphires to match my dress.” She nodded eagerly and returned to the jewellery box. Elodie had chosen perfectly. My dress had embroidered lace flowers sewn onto to pale blue satin, I felt so beautiful. Aria approached me and clumsily hooked the earrings into my ear. “Ouch!” “Oh my Lady, Josephine I’m so sorry.” I turned to face her and held her hands. “What’s wrong Aria? Why are you so nervous?” “I just want you to enjoy yourself. I’m worried that it won’t live up to your expectations, or it does, and you find a husband and forget about me.” I smiled and rubbed her cheek. “I will tell you everything when I return, and you never have to worry about that. No matter where I go next, you will always be by my side.” I leaned in

  • When Love Rivals Marriage    Did he smell like leather?

    - Josephine - His hand was firm and strong, but holding mine so gently. It felt exciting to be swept up in his chaos, rushing through the house into the garden. As we stepped out into the sunlight he let go of my hand to shade his eyes and took several strides forward. He slipped his large coat off, exposing his vest and shirt, before draping it over a wall and turning to face me. “It’s a beautiful day Josephine. It’d be a shame to waste it cooped up in your room.” I smiled and nodded, and began to walk beside him down the path. “So, you paint?” He sounded genuinely interested. “Yes. I do love it, but I’m getting bored of painting scenery.” “Oh?” “Once you’ve painted one woodland, you’ve painted them all. Lord Leven’s hedge maze is the first bit of excitement I’ve had in a while.” He looked at me with his typical cheeky grin. “Painting. Excitement while painting.” He looked back and the path, still chuckling to himself. “I see. Well, we will have to do somethin
