Serena’s Point of View

“Hello…”

I answered the call quickly, my fingers tightening slightly around my phone.

My heart was beating faster. Hope began to bloom again in my mind.

"This is it," I thought.

"This has to be it."

But....

“Hello, Ms. Serena Gilbert? This is from City Care Hospital. We’re sorry, but we have to reschedule your appointment because…”

My heart dropped.

An unexplainable ache spread through my body.

The woman was explaining something, but my mind failed to register most of it.

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   146. All Of Them Are Just A Part Of Your Past

Serena's Point of ViewI frowned at the unfamiliar number on the screen. For a second, I considered letting it ring. But eventually, I answered.“Hello?”“Serena?”My entire body went still because I knew that voice too well.“Mom?”It was Rowen's mother, and I hadn't heard from her since I left Rowen. My fingers tightened around the phone.“I don't think we have anything to talk about.”“Wait. Please. Just listen to me for a moment.”I closed my eyes.“What is it?”“Rowen told us you're about to get divorced.”I said nothing.“He said you went to court today.”“Yes.”She sighed.“Serena, can't you come home?”My eyes opened.“What?”“You know, darling, these kinds of things happen in families. It's normal.”A husband cheating on his wife? How could that possibly be normal? What kind of logic was that?“People make mistakes. Rowen made a mistake. I know that. I'm not saying what he did was right.”A mistake?“But he was the man you loved, Serena. You've been married for so long. Can't

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   145. I’m Proud of You.

Adrian's Point of ViewSerena didn't say much since we left the courthouse.Neither did I.I knew what she was feeling. She had so much hope for today. She believed she was finally going to get her freedom today. But that asshole had found another way to keep her tied to him.For a few more weeks, at least.I glanced at her as I drove. She was leaning back against the seat, resting her head and looking out the window.I didn't want to ask if she was okay.I knew she wasn't.And making her talk about it wasn't going to make her feel better.A few minutes later, she turned to me. Maybe she sensed the familiar road ahead of us.“Are we going to Uncle Wang's?”“Yes.”“Why?”“Because we haven't had lunch, and Uncle Wang said he hasn't seen you for a long time.”“Oh...”A few minutes later, I stopped the car in front of the small restaurant.Uncle Wang looked delighted when we walked in.I knew he was always delighted to see me, but right now, that wide smile was obviously for Serena.“Ther

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   144. I Belong to Myself.

Serena's Point of ViewI saw him the moment he walked into the courtroom.Rowen.My fingers tightened around each other on my lap.For a few seconds, I simply looked at him. This man used to be my whole world. But now, looking at him, I didn't feel anything.Anything except the strange heaviness in my heart.Maybe because this was supposed to be the official end of everything between us.Forever.Rowen saw me.His steps slowed. Our eyes met.His eyes softened in an instant. Then, the next moment, they filled with so much longing. But right then, his gaze shifted beside me.To the man who was sitting beside me.Adrian.The softness, the longing in his eyes disappeared. His jaw tightened.I looked at Adrian. He didn't react. He sat calmly beside me, dressed in a dark suit as usual, his arms crossed over his chest. When I looked back in Rowen's direction, he was staring at us, his eyes burning with fury. However, he had to walk away when his lawyer guided him toward their side of the cou

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   143. Tomorrow, I’ll Be Free.

Serena's Point of View“Serena?”Noah gently patted me on the shoulder.“Huh?” I blinked.“I've been calling your name. What world did you get lost in?”Your jealous big brother's world, I thought quietly.“Sorry. What did you say?” I asked, putting on a smile.Noah narrowed his eyes at me.“Were you even listening?”“Of course I was.”“Liar.”I laughed.“Okay... okay... Maybe I got distracted for a second. I apologize.”“What were you saying?”He frowned at me for a second, but then began to talk.“I was saying we need to celebrate.”“And I was saying we already did.”“Fine.” He shrugged. “Then we'll celebrate something else.”“Like what?”His grin immediately returned, even wider this time.“It's a secret.”“A secret?” My eyebrow rose.“Yes. But you'll know soon.”He pointed a finger at me, the expression in his eyes growing serious.“And don't say no when you get the invitation, okay?”I stared at him suspiciously.“Invitation?”“Yeah. Wait for it.”“What big secret needs an invita

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   142. A Silent Admission

Serena's Point of ViewWarmth...Comfortable and addictive.A heartbeat...Calm and peaceful. And I knew exactly who they belonged to.I slowly opened my eyes.My head was resting against his chest, one of my hands curled loosely near his stomach. And Adrian's arm...It was wrapped around me.Firmly.The careful distance that had been between us when we went to sleep was somehow no longer there.I didn't move.I didn't even breathe properly for a few seconds. Then I pressed my cheek back against his T-shirt, letting my whole body sink deeper into his warmth.I had no idea how we'd ended up like this.Had he pulled me closer in his sleep?Or had I moved into his arms? But either way, I didn't mind.I loved him.And I loved being close to him.Last night, he'd told me that I mattered to him more than anything else in the world. He'd told me he wouldn't hesitate to give even his life to protect me.And yet...He still hadn't realized the true meaning behind all those words.A smile slowl

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   141. You’ll Never Be Alone.

Adrian's Point of View“Here you are.”I looked up.Serena stood in front of me with a small pile of clothes in her hands.I recognized them immediately.A T-shirt and sweatpants I'd left here the last time I'd stayed with her.I'd almost forgotten about them, but for some reason, seeing them still in her apartment did something strange to my heart. She could have simply packed them into a bag and given them back to me.But she hadn't.She had kept them in her own closet. As if I was also part of her home.“Thanks.”I took them from her.“You can shower first,” she said. “I'll go after you.”I nodded and headed toward the bathroom.Tonight had been fucking exhausting. Not physically.Emotionally.I had sat in meetings literally all day, dealing with millions of euros, arguing and negotiating with people more cunning than foxes, making decisions that affected hundreds of employees. But I hadn't felt this exhausted.I stood under the shower, letting the hot water run over me.It helped.

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   8. It’s You…

Adrian’s Point of ViewI returned to the office after the meeting at 4Axis.There were documents waiting. There were always documents waiting.I went through one file, trying to read the figures carefully, but I wasn’t focused. My mind kept returning to the restaurant. To her.I hadn’t expected to

Serena’s Point of View“Sir… I didn’t realize you had arrived.”Marco’s tone shifted instantly into something respectful and polite as he stepped toward the table by the window. The tall man in the dark suit didn’t respond. He simply looked at the customer, his eyes completely emotionless.I turned

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   6. When He Stepped In

Serena’s Point of View“For table seven!”Lucy called from the kitchen, and I quickly picked up the tray.It was a Friday evening, my third day at Lena’s. With Lena suddenly ill, Marco was managing the restaurant, and the whole place felt slightly off.I made my way through the crowded tables. The

  • When My Husband Lost Me, His CEO Found Me   5. Starting Over Alone

Serena’s Point of ViewFinding a place to stay wasn’t easy, and I didn’t have the luxury to be picky. After a few calls and visits, I finally found a room in a shared apartment.Fortunately, they only required the monthly rent as a deposit. The place was small, just enough for a bed, a table, and a
