MAYA’S POV

Lycan Rasmus did help me in the past, and could it be that he was expecting me to return the favor by allowing him mark me as his mate? Bearing his mark automatically makes me the Luna of the pack.

He helped me on the night I got attacked by the masked figure. He instructed Beta Kierra to help me train so my wolf could break out. Also, he helped me by keeping me in his mansion up till then.

“I haven’t done anything for him. I can’t think of that one thing that I have done for

RASMUS’S POV I stepped in and I wasn’t surprised to see Maya in the living room with her eyes on the television screen. I made sure to return on time so we could spend time together. Beta Kierra wasn’t with her, she must be in the middle of something important. “Hi,” I said after I got close to her. It was my way of announcing my presence. “Welcome, you’re back early,” she mentioned after her eyes landed on me. She looked excited to see me, and that didn’t make me feel bad. “Yes.” “How was your meeting with the elders?” she asked. I knew she would. “It went well, those old men had something to say as usual.” I didn’t want to bore her, so I spared her the gist of what went down between the elders and I. I put one of them in his place today, but I didn’t think it would interest her to know. She would definitely get bored at some point. It felt like time wasn’t moving so fast today. Dusk was still here, meaning I still had hours before bedtime. It was the same for Maya.

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FORTY FOUR

MAYA’S POV “I can’t remember agreeing to this,” I protested. Successfully, Lycan Rasmus had helped me in putting on an apron. He also had one on. His sleeves rolled up to his elbows, he meant business. If only he had listened to me, we wouldn’t be here. His left hand rested on a sack of flour while he engaged one of the chefs in a conversation. He acted as though I didn’t protest earlier, I knew he would. He would do literally anything to have his way. All the chefs present in the kitchen used the door, leaving Lycan Rasmus and I alone. I kept my eyes on him while I wondered what his next step would be. He seemed like he had everything figured out already. “Here you go,” he muttered, and proceeded to push a bowl closer to the center of the table. He pushed two more bowls, and all I did was watch. He kept acting as though he had done this before. His movements were calm and he looked like he knew what exactly he was doing. "We are baking," he said. That explained why he

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FORTY THREE

MAYA’S POV Still, I resumed running. I started slowly, and after a few seconds, it got worse. Just as I was about to give up again, I remembered the words Lycan Rasmus and Beta Kierra said to me. It was safe to say that their words kept me going, but it wasn’t just their words, I remembered the reasons why my wolf needed to break forth. Their words gave me the push I needed. I stopped believing in myself a long time ago because I thought I couldn’t be like those who have a wolf. Beta Kierra said to me that my strength isn’t measured by my wolf, that helped. The pain didn’t disappear, it was still there, but I kept pushing. I didn’t look at anyone else, and I didn’t try to match anyone else. I stopped checking to see if Lycan Rasmus or Beta Kierra was watching me. I was doing this for myself and not to impress them. “You can do this,” I muttered to myself. My mind kept telling me to stop, but I ignored it every single time. I knew I wasn’t wasting my time, and someday I w

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FORTY TWO

MAYA’S POV The training ground was already loud when I arrived. The sound of fists meeting flesh filled the air, that was bound to happen here. Some werewolves had shifted into partial wolf forms. “Lycan Rasmus said he’d be on the training ground waiting for you.” A maid said those words to me just as I was about to have breakfast. I had no other choice but to ditch breakfast and make my way here without hesitation. This was not my favorite place to be, and Lycan Rasmus was aware of that. I stood not so close to everyone, watching them from here. It didn’t seem like a bad idea. My hands were tight around the straps of my training clothes, and I couldn’t help feeling like I didn’t belong here. Unlike every other werewolf here, I didn’t have a wolf. I didn’t have strength like them, I didn’t have speed or anything that made a true werewolf. I only have a body that gets tired too quickly. The only reason I put on my training clothes before coming here was because I knew Lyc

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FORTY ONE

DAMIEN’S POV Something felt wrong, and I just couldn't explain it. I felt it the moment I stepped out of my room and I told Roman about it. I kept using the stairs at a slow pace while I looked all around me. The pack house was unusually quiet, and maybe it wasn’t something to be worried about. Not every day has to be noisy or filled with servants running around and guards reporting for duty. Somehow, the silence kept bothering me in a way I couldn't shake off. I had just walked down the hallway and I expected to see someone eventually, but nobody appeared. Not a single maid, not a single guard, nothing. “What exactly is going on?” I asked Roman. “I guess we’re about to find out,” he growled. My footsteps echoed while I kept sauntering. I still could see anyone but it felt like I wasn’t alone. I was headed for the compound, perhaps the maids, guards and warriors were all having a meeting. I looked straight in front of me and I paused instantly. The front door was wide

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FORTY

RASMUS’S POV If someone had told me a few months ago that I would willingly spend my evening lying on a blanket and staring at stars, I would have laughed in their face and maybe even called them a joker. I was Lycan Rasmus. I dealt with warriors, enemies, meetings, pack affairs, and so much more. I didn’t sit around admiring little lights in the sky, yet here I was, and the reason was lying beside me. Whoever guessed the reason to be Maya guessed right. She was excited to do this with me, and I knew it from the moment I brought it up. Who could have thought that stargazing would be her thing? “Thank you,” I said to Fred inwardly. “You’re welcome, but why are you thanking me?” “It was your idea,” I replied to him. “Yeah, I’m a hopeless romantic,” he jibed. I didn’t think it was a nice idea when he first told me about it, but now, I wished I had started planning it when he spoke to me about it. I slept on it for days because I just wasn’t feeling the idea. The cool

MAYA’S POV “Be sure to take the post-pills tonight,” Alpha Damien said as he threw my clothes at me. Post-pills had become the bitter medicine I had no choice but to swallow. If there was one thing I hadn’t run out of for months, it was post-pills. I got dressed, already knowing it was time t

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FIVE

MAYA’S POV I had witnessed soldiers train before. I had seen cruelty on the training ground, I had seen soldiers bleed, but this was a massacre. “This won’t end well,” I cried out. Alpha Damien stood at the center of it all, blood running down from his jaw to his chest. Five opponents surroun

  • When the moon binds us   CHAPTER FOUR

DAMIEN’S POV My fists remained tightly clenched. I hadn’t woken up on the good side of the bed, and everyone in the mansion had better be well-behaved today. “Get me the Beta and the head of security,” I ordered the guard behind me after descending the stairs. “Yes, Alpha,” he responded. My

MAYA’S POV “When you’re done here, you’re to scrub all the toilets in the mansion,” a guard snapped. I didn’t forget for a minute that I was supposed to be scrubbing the toilets and not here on the training ground, but it was what Alpha Damien wanted. “This is a waste of time,” I muttered af
