Chapter 4

As time passed by, I realized that this is how it feels like to be a student. You were listening and registering everything what the teacher's talking about in your mind.

I took out my notebook and ball pen, then started writing. I have a nice penmanship though, all letters were in italic form and I am doing it unconsciously. A nurse in America was the one who noticed it.

Ms. Pedersen discussed everything she written on the board, then suddenly,

a loud knocked on the door interrupted our class.

It was a bunch of students; they were holding small banners that say "Welcome, Freshies!"

They were screaming and clapping their hands. The one who came last was the one who caught my attention.

THE FOOT BALL GUY STUDIES HERE TOO? You have got to be kiddin' me.

"Can you do the welcoming part after my class?" Ms. Pedersen said grumpily.

"C'mon, Ms. Pedersen, stop torturing our freshies. It's just their first day." A guy in a blue shirt says, his hair were semi-shaved.

"Nice one, Nate!" The foot ball guy did a high five with that guy named Nate, then they laughed hysterically.

Why was he so annoying in my eyes? I stared at him. He was about to look when I averted my gaze and continued writing in my notebook.

What the total frizz! Please tell me he didn't see

me.

"Okay, so we prepared a small presentation for you guys." A high pitched voice girl was talking and I'm still looking at my notebook.

"Lucas, where's your guitar?" I sneaked on what's in front of us. The girl who has a high pitched voice, she's tall and has a nice body figure, her hair color was kind of orangey-red.

Ah, so that's what they call him, Lucas.

"Over here, Em." Nate told the girl.

Lucas positioned his self on the corner then took the guitar from Nate.

So he's an athlete and a musician? Impressive... yet annoying.

"Ready, one, two, sing."

"Warm hugs, warm greetings."

"It's so nice to see you in the beginning." Two girls chorused.

"Hope you had a great time, and a new learning." Em and another girl sang this part.

"We're family, by school and by heart." It was Nate. I looked over at Lucas, he's rocking his head and biting his lower lip.

He looked at me, and caught that I was staring at him. I blinked twice as usual. Oh boy, this is so embarrassing! I could feel the heat that's coming from both of my ears.

When the group ended performing, everyone started clapping. It was impressive, they all have good harmony and they all blended well.

"You are all invited for the

frost bash, tomorrow 3PM sharp." Em told everyone.

What's a frost bash?

The blonde girl at my back poked me. "Are you coming? It's a party for every freshmen in this school." She excitedly told me.

"Uhm. I think I'll pass." I looked at her, and she's still smiling. It's kind of creeping me out.

"Oh. Okay, but whenever you change your mind, I'm going." I nodded.

"I'm Stacey, by the way." She offered her hands to me.

"Alayna." Then we shook hands.

"Cool name." Stacey said then gave me another wide smile. I smiled at her before facing the board again. I'm not really good in conversation, so yeah.

The students in front were now leaving, Lucas was at the end of the line. I was taken aback when he looked at me, then I saw him walked towards my direction.

"Mr. Nielsen? Forgot something?" Ms. Pedersen stopped Lucas.

"I'm just going to say something to my friend over here." Then I felt everyone were staring at me, again. Oh, why does it keep on happening to me?

Lucas continued walking until he was in front of me.

"Hey. Can I talk to you, during break time?" Lucas told me like we were old friends who just saw each other after a decade.

"Uhm." I didn't actually agree but why is he nodding, then placed his hands on his pocket.

What was his plan? Why does he want to talk to me? Oh, boy! I'm having an anxiety attack.

"See you."

He said to me without any expression on his face and then left the room.

"Okay, let's continue our discussion." Ms. Pederson said.

After Ms. Pedersen, History was my next subject. At exactly 10:30, a neat and good looking teacher came in.

"Good morning, class. Please get a 1/4 sheet of paper. We're having a pop quiz." Everyone in the room groaned. I was looking at them, is there something wrong? Is having a pop quiz that bad rather than being confronted by a guy you suddenly hate?

"Pop quiz on the first day of class, really?" I heard the complain of the girl on my left.

"Ms. Summers?" I was about to leave when my teacher in History called me.

"Yes, sir?" Then I came forward at his table.

"You got it perfect on the quiz." He said casually to me.

"For real?" Oh my god, it must be because of the novel I read about history.

"Yes, for real. And I want you to join the History club of this school." Extra-curricular activities? Wish I could say that my heart's weak and can no longer accept any of that. But that would be putting myself in danger, and having myself expelled in this school.

"I think I'll pass, sir. Thanks for the offer though." I think he's kind of disappointed.

"Well, okay then." He continued writing something on his paper then I left the room. Well, that was... awkward.

I went to the cafeteria cause I'm kind of hungry,

it's been four hours since I had my first class. My brain was over loaded right now.

I walked towards at the end of the line and chose something to eat. There's pasta, garlic bread, mushroom soup and banana bread. I also see a lot of fruits, but I did not see any strawberries.

Bummer... I love strawberries, they make me feel so happy and refreshed.

"What do you like?" The lady in pink told me.

"Uhm. Are there no strawberries here in Tòrshavn?" She frowned, and thinking if I said something wrong.

"No strawberries here in Tórshavn. But there are imports coming from Japan, and that is scheduled every December." And were only in the month of July.

Ugh, it will take that long before I could taste a strawberry.
