Chapter 7

"Lucas was really our guy." A guy with a deep voice said. I froze when I heard his name. Oh, give me a break! Was he here too? I really don't want to see him right now.

"He's smooth. Real smooth." Another guy said, he was now laughing. I think they stopped behind the tree that I was leaning on.

Okay, at least it's just the two of them.

"You saw what he did with that girl?" I think they were talking about me. I know it's not a good idea to eavesdrop, but hey, it's about me.

"In the cafeteria?" I knew it...

"Yes. I told him if he can ask that girl if she likes him. In exchange of our position in the football."

"So you're really giving it to him?" I think this voice sounds familiar to me.

"Yes, he earned it. At least I know now that I can control him." Seriously?

"Yeah. Way to go, Calvin!" I heard them chuckled.

So, Lucas was just their puppet? Why would he let them do that to him? He's such a dumb person and that made me more hate him.

The two guys walked past the tree, and I saw them. They were wearing their blue and white varsity jacket.

I recognized one of them was Nate.

Okay, that was Nate's voice who sounded familiar to me.

When I saw Nate and Lucas yesterday, I thought they were the best of friends. But I guess it was just a one-way kind of friendship.

I think I am feeling better now. I must get back inside, Stacey must still be there, where I left her.

I dusted off the dirt that might be on my clothes then stood up.

"Hey, Alayna." Damn it! This guy won't stop pestering me.

I turn around. It was Lucas with his friends, not his varsity friends, but maybe his classmates. I just turned my back on him then started walking.

"Hey, wait up." He then grabbed my arm, causing me to stop from walking.

"What do you want?" I looked straight into his eyes.

"I'm so sorry for what I did yesterday. It's just that..." He averted his look.

I coldly stared at him.

"It's just that, it's very hard to explain. Let me make it up to you."

"You don't have to."

"Just let me do this. You barely got here in SSPA, then here I am, made the first impression as a jerk to you." Lucas said sincerely.

"No." I said then left him.

I seriously don't have time with his lies.

"I'll still try, Alayna!" I heard Lucas shouted. I walked hurriedly.

When I got back in the gymnasium, Stacey was still there, standing while eating cupcakes.

"Hey, where have you been?" She said.

"Outside." I stood beside her.

"Oh, okay."

I don't want to think anything that involves Lucas anymore. I just diverted my attention to the performers.

I must say that the performers here were all talented. They seriously do belong in this school.

"You're not into talking aren't you?" Stacey looked at me, she was chewing her cupcake.

"Yes. Having myself all alone was the greatest thing I ever had." I was caught off guard when she laughed so loud, students in front of us looked at us.

"What's the matter?" I said to Stacey while she's still laughing. Did I say something wrong?

"I think that was the longest time you spoke." I can't help but not to chuckle. Stacey was still laughing, I think I saw tears in her eyes.

"Phew! You're funny." She wiped off the tears.

"No, I am not." I said to her disapprovingly. Because I am not really funny, that is one trait that I won't ever be.

"Yes you are. You know what, you were just like my nurse in America."

"Nurse?" Her nurse? What does that mean?

"Oh, yes. I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Then last year, the doctor said that I have a kidney failure. This is the last stage and the most severe." Stacey looked at me, then she giggled.

"Oh, silly me. Of course you don't understand. Okay, so to make everything clear and short, I don't have working kidneys anymore." Holy frizz! Is this for real?

It's really a small world, huh? I mean, looking at Stacey, she almost looked perfect. I saw her as the soon-to-be campus crush because of her beautiful face, shiny and healthy blonde hair, and a perfect figure, plus her bright and warm personality.

"Hey, don't feel sorry for me. Everything's gonna be okay." I nodded then saw her smirked. I gave her then my warmest smile.

When the party's over, I tapped my ID onto the machine for attendance. Then I heard a familiar voice who was calling my name.

It's him, again. I rolled my eyes, frustrated, then I called Stacey so we can leave already.

"Alayna." Lucas was so persistent, and I noticed that he kept on holding my wrist very often.

"Let go of me, will you? Stacey, let's go home." Ever since I found out her condition, I felt more comfortable with her. It was like I have someone who can completely understand my situation, too.

"Alayna, just hear him out." I looked at Stacey, what was she doing? I thought she's on my side.

"You heard your friend, please?" I heaved a long frustrated sigh.

Lucas then explained his side once again, It really caught me off guard when he said to me that I'll be his master, and him as my slave for a week. I had goosebumps for like five minutes. Saying those words like I am some kind of evil tyrant ready to ripped your heads off.

Also, Lucas even told me that I can ask anything or any favor, just so he can fix what any damages he had done.

I was just staring at him, cold-heartedly.

Then a brunette girl came. "What's going on here, Luke?" The girl eyed me as if I did something wrong.

"Nothing, Clove. It's none of your business, anyway." Lucas answered the girl. It looks like the girl was annoyed, but still try to compose herself.

"Of course it is my business, you're my friend. So what's the deal?" The girl was still looking at me, and I mean not just looking but glaring. I think I am getting weak because of that. I want this discussion to stop.

"Do whatever you want." I signaled Stacy that we must leave this room immediately.

"So, is that a yes?" I looked at Lucas' eyes, he seems so happy.

I didn't answer him, then we just left the gymnasium

Stacey and I walked home together, since we were on the same way, we talked about her condition, because I am really curious about it. I wanted to tell her what's my real state, but, I think now's not the right time.

"So, did you know that girl..." Stacey said.

"That girl? The brunette girl?"

"Yep. He's a childhood friend of Lucas, her name's Clover. They were really close, to the point that they had something special." Stacey confessed, now I know the reason why she kept on glaring at me earlier.

"Wait, had something special? So, was it done already?" I asked out of nowhere.

"Yes, Lucas realized that Clover was just his younger sister." That made me and Stacey laugh.

"Wait, how did you know all of this? I thought you're new in that school?" Stacey looked at me and arch her eyebrows.

"Connections, darling." Stacy said with a British accent. We giggled and laughed together.

Never had I ever giggled and laughed with someone else that was not mom. I am beginning to like the company of this girl.
