Chapter 8

Tomorrow morning, I got a text message from Stacey.

 Stacey

Subject: Surprise visit, but not anymore

I'll be there in front of your house in 10 minutes. More or less (seen)

6:30

I shook my head, this girl is a hundred percent annoyer, but I must admit that I am having fun with her company.

Having someone as you called a friend sends a different feeling to me now. It feels new and bizarre — and somehow exciting.

I just placed my cellphone on the table and continued brushing  my hair.

After that, I went downstairs.

My mom is nowhere to be found, she must be outside doing the garden. I drank the glass of milk that was on the table and had a cookie. While chewing it, I wonder if I can make one of these and started doing it as my business?

My mother would always ask me what I would like to do when I grow up... but, since my life has been planned, I never bother to think even at least one.

My thoughts were interrupted when I've heard chattering of women outside.

I fetched my backpack on the sofa and went outside. I then saw Stacey and my mom having a conversation. Not just a normal conversation but a fun conversation, I must say.

"Hey, girlfriend!" Stacey waved her hands and smiled widely at me. She looks great on her clothes: white top and mini skirt, with matching tube socks.

It's looks like she's actually okay after all.

"Alayna, I did not know you have a friend, already. Way to go sweetie." My mom nudged me and gave this excited look.

"Well, what can I say Karen, you're daughter is really fun to be with." I just shook my head and smiled to the both of them.

I really have no idea what would made Stacey say that... We just went home together, once.

"See, she always does this. Smiling instead of talking." Stacey and my mom laughed together.

"We have got to go, mom. See you, later." I gave my mom a peck on her cheeks.

"Have fun at school, girls!"

While we were waiting at the bus stop, someone stood beside me and it was Lucas.

"Hey Stacey, hey master." Stacey greeted him back, but I just stared at him. What a great way to start my morning.

He was really serious with this master-and-slave agreement. I just looked away and rolled my eyes.

When the bus arrived, we all rode in it together. Stacey and Lucas were just having a conversation while I am busy reading the book that I bought last week, but some smug guy, and I am preferring to Lucas, almost took this from me.

But I am half thankful that he didn't.

Once in a blue moon that I read this kind of genre, and it surpassed my expectations. It really interests me what would be the ending of this story, so I couldn't stop reading it.

Last night, it was already past my bed time when I've decided that I'll continue to read this tomorrow morning.

I know, it's not good for my health, but I really can't help it. It was like I needed to know what happened to the family of Erika, when she decided to end her life.

It was that moving, to the point that I am now in the last chapter of the story and I've really learned a lot from it. I could really foresee what would happen to all the people I love when I am already gone.

I have this heavy feeling inside of me while turning every page of this last chapter. It was because of my unusual habit that I get sad every time I finished a book, it feels like there's another world was taken away from me.

If there could be a chance, I really want to meet the author, and thank her personally for giving, us, the readers, such great story. It is an eye-opener for those people who are suffering through depression.

"Hey, my friend right here is reading one of your mom's book." Stacey blurted out. I looked at her. Dumbfounded.

What is she talking about?

"Yeah, that was actually the last copy here in Tòrshavn, and I wanted to be the last one to buy that so I hid it, but unfortunately, my master had it already. So she can have it." Lucas shrugged and laugh a bit.

"Where did you hide it?" Stacey asked.

"I put it at the back of the Fiction section. And here's the funny thing, I remembered, it was a Monday when I bumped with Alayna, that was the day when I hid that copy. So I just went back to the football field to practice, then after a couple of hours, Master went to the field, and I saw her reading the book already."

I was just listening to his story, still dumbfounded. What the actual frizz is happening?

"Is this for real?" Stacey fanned herself with her hands. Lucas nodded, while he was laughing.

"Is this the book you were referring when you told me that she got something that was yours?" Again, Lucas just nodded his head.

I feel so embarrassed right now. I can literally hide under the solid ground of Tórshavn in any moment.

"Y-your mother is... Margarette Nielsen?" I stuttered. And I think this is the only thing that matters to me right now.

"Yes?" What? How? When?!

He looks so unsure. Has everything in Tórshavn has something to do with this guy? I mean come on, he's on my top most hated list in the world right now.

"Why? Would you want to meet her? I could set you an appointment." Lucas offered and I exactly don't know what will I answer to this exasperating guy.

My mind is battling with my pride whether to ignore or accept it.

If I ever accepted it, I had to be thankful to him.

No!

"Lucas, do you really need to ask the obvious? Of course, Alayna would like to meet your mom. She can't stop talking about it when were on our way home yesterday."

Stacey, I need you to learn to stop giving information to this guy.

"Well, yeah sure, anything for my master. Lucas Nielsen, at your service." Lucas saluted at me, then both of them laughed. I just heaved a long sigh.

I guess, Lucas was really true to his words that I can ask any favors on him.

But of course, he's only doing this cause he wants to redeem his self, nothing more, nothing less. And, it will not change the fact that I do hate him.
