CHAPTER 7. A SPECIAL PLACE

The special place was at the beach at Wolf’s Lair, somehow Fleur was not surprised because to her, it was significant too. It was the place where she ran to when she was feeling overwhelmed and sad and now it seemed to make sense why her feet brought her there. She was looking for someplace where she belonged. She sought comfort when she felt so lost and lonely, and there was no place in the world but here. It was not the crashing of the waves or the gentle sound of the breeze that brought me there it was someone and that person is Zeeb. Somehow being here again made her realize what she has been looking for all along, it was not a place she can call home but a person she can belong to.

Zeeb got out of his truck and went around to open the door for her. He held out a hand and she took it with a smile, knowing full well she finally found her way to a place she can call her own.

They walked together hand in hand. She stopped to untie her sneakers and take off her socks, getting the cue from her Zeeb did the same and she run towards the beach and he ran after her. They were laughing carelessly, feeling the wind on their faces. He was fast, faster than she anticipated knowing that he was a mortal. He was able to close the gap between them in no time and he was able to catch her by her waist as she turned around breathless from running and laughing, she looked at him seeing the need and desire in his eyes. He looked at her the way no one ever looked at her, his eyes were soft with need, but what was underneath was what got her heart fluttering and her insides burning, he was looking at her as if he is seeking permission to get closer to her. She saw that and she made the first move, of course, she would, because deep inside, Fleur knew that he was indeed the one for her. He was the one she has been trying to find all these decades and she is so sure of it right this very moment.

Their lips touched and it was gentle and beautiful, the way they move their mouths in sync with gentleness and passion all at the same time. When they broke their kiss Zeeb looked at Fleur and saw tears streaming down her eyes, he looked at her longingly, breaking his heart, he never wants to see her cry.

“Did I hurt you? Did I do something wrong?” he said.

“No.” Fleur choked, as she smiled and laughed.

“It’s just that I never felt this way before.” She continued.

He answered her with a smile and kissed her cheeks where the tears fell. “I feel the same way.” He whispered to her.

They held each other’s gaze and they both understood that they have found each other and nobody can tear them apart anymore. They walked hand in hand towards the same rock where she found Fleur the other night, they sat there overlooking the horizon, the deep blue seas as the waves crashed and frothed underneath their toes. The sun was shining brightly on their faces as the wind cools their faces. It’s as if the universe is conspiring with them on this perfect day, giving them their blessing.

“I dreamt of you last night.” Fleur broke the silence.

Zeeb looked at her face thoughtfully as she continued to look distantly.

“I did too.” He said.

Fleur looked at him, the look of shock and wonder evident on her face.

“It felt so real…What are the chances we had the same dream?” she said to him.

“You were crying and I comforted you, I held you until you fell asleep. I felt like you really needed someone and I badly want to be the one that you needed.” He replied back to her, the gentleness in his voice sounded like a melody, almost like a lullaby to her, making her feel safe and at peace.

“I was crying and you were there for me. It’s exactly the same dream only, it was from your perspective…” she trailed off, the confusion written all over her face.

Zeeb looked at her with the same expression, he was studying her face for a moment, and he knew something was off. Could it be that she is different like him? Could she be a Lycan too? He shook the thoughts away as he know that is a far fetch idea. She couldn’t be one of them because his family must have known. They have always known when far-flung relatives or tribe members visit Willow Creek, in fact, his father always hosts a dinner with the whole tribe whenever they come. He does not understand yet the full scope of his own abilities but somehow after the last gathering, he felt different, he was stronger and more confident of who he was, he hasn’t turned yet but he has always had that sinking feeling at the pit of his stomach that danger is near and soon he would be a full pledge Lycan, just like his ancestors and the ones before them did. Thinking about it now, even when he was with Fleur, he can sense an underlying danger but it could not overshadow the avalanche of feelings he felt for her. He knew he needed to get to the bottom of this. This is strange and it bothers him.

“It must be a coincidence, either that or we are just meant to be.” He teased her and nudged her a bit.

She smiled at the thought and looked at him again. “Do you believe in soulmates?” She said.

He looked at her intently, trying to sense if he should tell her about the stories of imprinting that their tribe believed in. He was not sure how she will make sense of it, he was afraid she might think he was crazy.

“I do believe that there is that someone for us, and when you see that person you just know.” He said instead.

She smiled at the thought, then she put her head on his shoulder as he automatically wraps an arm around her. They sat there in silence, the questions dancing and lingering in their heads, teasing them both, making them feel the urge to uncover more about each other. They both know something is off with each other and they cannot deny that they both badly want to be together.

They both looked afar determined to make the thing with both of them work, yet doubts kept on trickling here and there, knowing that they both can’t be honest with each other, not when you are both creatures of a different kind.

They were both right of course because Lycans and Immortals can never be together.
