Chapter 45

Jenna's POV

Because he smiled and replied, "Yeah. There's nothing wrong. Just stress."

Liza has been complaining about throbbing pain in her head. Since her father was a brain tumor survivor, Jace was suspicious that the pain might be related.

"Oh. Good. That means she's not dying anytime soon." I said in a dry tone.

Liza actually laughed as if I was joking, "A good one there, Luna. But thanks to Jace, I'm fine. He's been so worried for me."

She touched his arm. Jace just smiled and crouched down to look under the table at Jace.

I took this time to murder Liza in my mind. Well, she's been spending a lot of time with my husband lately because I have stopped objecting to it.

The last time Jace and I fought over her, his words really made me feel remorseful. I was doubting him over this whōre. He was loyal— every fiber in my body was aware of that. Therefore, I stopped raising objections to anything I noticed, even if it seared the hell out of me.

I just didn't want Jace to feel like I was doubting his loyalty again.

However, that has given Liza the freedom to cling more to my husband.

She probably has read between the lines and is always buzzing around Jace like a fly. She touches him too. In the last two months, I've seen them in such close proximity that I literally wanted to kill her. But for Jace's sake, I looked over it. Because I know my husband didn't notice it because he treats her like a cousin after our marriage.

But this slůt, she just can't take the hint. She's always there between us. We hardly had a day together in the last two months where she didn't appear like a ghost between us.

Above all, she's been spending time with my son too.

Perhaps, that's why, when she bent down and motioned with her fingers for him to come out, he cheerfully did.

Crawling into her arms, he cupped both her cheeks and cried in excitement.

"Lijja!"

My body immobilized in fury. Somehow I managed to avert my eyes as I gulped my jealousy.

I didn't mention it before... But out of all the words my son has learnt to speak, her name is one of them.

"Awww, sweetheart. My name sounds sooo cute when you say it. Come on, call me again." Jared just kicked his legs and giggled. "Say Liza, baby. Liza..."

"Lijja!" She excitedly cheered.

"Did you see that, Jace! He called me."

"Yeah, you're her only aunt right now. He likes you." Jace ruffled Jared's hair all while I stood there feeling like a third wheel.

"Let's see who he calls first now." She gushed and leaned into Jace's shoulder.

They both simultaneously started encouraging my son to call them. It was too much for me. Since I had promised myself not to make a scene out of it, I stormed out of there without Jared.

I came to our room and slammed the door. However, the sound of the slamming never came.

"Jenna, what's wrong? Why did you come here so suddenly?" Jace was here…. Without our son.

I closed my eyes and tried to count numbers.

"Love, you're red. Are you angry?" He had turned me around to face him.

Stay composed. Don't let anger show, Jenna.

"Are you angry over Liza for playing with our son?" That was the last straw.

Like an overflowing dam, my patience broke. I pushed Jace's hands away and stepped back.

"Yes, I'm angry at her. Can't you see? She's managed to put such a huge distance between us, Jace?" I yelled. "A month, Jace... A whole month you wasted behind her because of her meaningless headaches."

"You've started spending more time with her than you spend with me. Tell me, isn't that a reason to be angry with her?"

Jace sighed loudly. He avoided looking at me for a while before his eyes finally flicked back to me.

"You're getting insecure again, aren't you?" He deadpanned. "How many times will we argue over this, Jenna? I told you I'm only like a cousin with her when I'm around her."

"I know. But as a married man, you need to stop being around her so much."

His eyes furrowed in frustration, "Are you even serious? Just because we're married, I can't be around her! Is that what you're saying?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying." I bobbed my head.

"Come on, Jenna. I told you I'm yours. What else do you want me to do now— write it on my forehead?" His words made me take a step back.

Jace has never spoken to me like that. But it's not surprising if he's been spending time with Liza. That woman is well versed with the fact how to manipulate someone. And Jace has been her bigger victim since before.

"She's my cousin. I was just looking out for her as her parents assumed I would. I'm just fulfilling my promise." I didn't reply to that. I had no comeback for that.

Turning around, I contained my sobs.

"Now say something." He demanded.

I didn't. My chest was heavy. I felt like I was trapped under a collapsed building. My lungs were tight. Too tight like they were filled with concrete.

"Jenna, I'm talking to—"

"Jace," The door swung open and Liza stepped in.

She looked between us two and pretended like she understood the situation, and was eager to move out.

"Jared, uh, he fell asleep in my arms after you left Jace. I will keep him on the bed and leave." She gently placed him and rose to him.

Don't know what got into her but she bent down and pecked Jared's hair and caressed his face.

"You're such a lovely baby, Jared. Love you." She caressed his face before she finally got up and exited.

"See, she loves our son so much. How can you still be suspicious of her?" Jace said right as she left. "Liza has changed now."

I still didn't speak.

"She's never crossed her lines around me. She always keeps distance. I don't know what it is that you've seen that keeps you going back to being insecure." His criticism sliced through my emotions like a razor.

He missed to see what I saw in these two months. That's true she maintained her distance and that she never again said anything to me on the mind link, but it's part of her plan. I know it's been a strategy all along.

She intended to come off as a nice person to him, so Jace would be forced to think I've been judging her wrongly.

I hate to say it, she's good at it. And she succeeded.

"Where are you going now?" I halted in my tracks and just slightly turned my head over my shoulder.

"I'm not the one who has headaches. You shouldn't care about me."

And I left the room.

Chapter 58 Jace's POV We were silent for a long time. Neither of us spoke. Suddenly Jenna lifted her face and eyes me innocently."What?" I chuckled. She nodded in no, "You burned Liza alive."My face stilled. I pulled her closer and joined our foreheads, "I had to. She was the bane of our family."I kissed her."Also," I added. "She made me doubt my wife's intentions. I had to punish her."At that, she hugged me tighter and rested her face on my shoulder. She was sitting straddling my waist while I held her like my toddler baby.My back had healed. Hence, I was able to sit this way.The doctors had been worried because the wound wasn't healing in my state of unconsciousness. That's the reason why they refused to give any answer. But the second I woke up, the wound healed, and all the residue of wolfsbane and silver was eliminated by my immune system."What happened to Chris and that lady?" I suddenly asked as I remembered those two."Both dead. And that lady was Doctor Henry's daug

I was not even fully out of the car."Yes, and already stationed our soldiers around the area." Oakley said, sending a wave of relief through me."Thank, goddess.""Don't worry, Jace. The situation is already in our control." Oakley flashed a shark grin and my eyebrows cocked in confusion. "Chris's soldiers look novice. They are not attentive at all, let alone alert.""I think he brought untrained wolves here. And I must add that his Beta and Gamma are not here either."I acknowledged with a nod, "He's probably doing it

Chapter 56Jenna's POV Jace has never touched her before. He hadn't done it this time either. It's that bìtch who always found ways to go near him.'There's no point in giving yourself false hope, Jenna. Jace isn't the man we thought he was. Accept it.' Gianna said.A feeling of disappointment rose over me. No! My wolf is not right here. She's hurt from Jace's wolf's words, and rest is the impact of wolfsbane.Jace loves us.'You really think that? Then tell me, why didn't he come after us when we left?'he He might have a reason.'No,' Gianna grunted weakly. 'It's because he was bewitched by his mistress's beauty and he chose her instead.'That's not true. I was breathless in anger. Gianna's words struck a chord that it shouldn't have.'I'll prove it to you that Jace still only loves us.'Having that said, I lowered my guard. Chapter 55Jenna's POVI regained my senses at the feeling of stabbing spasms stretching throughout my body. My eyelids were heavy and so I couldn't drag them open. But my other senses were working well.I could hear and smell and feel my surroundings. The air was crackling with the chirping of thousands of crickets, meaning that I was most likely in a forest area; or where there were a lot of trees.I dragged in a deep breath to catch scents, and realized that wood was burning somewhere. Then I heard the noise of fire crackling. A bonfire. I subtly rubbed my hand on the ground and sensed the coarse texture. Soil. All the elements directed to one point, I was in a forest. My eyes felt better now. I was about to open them when, "Hadn't she woken up yet?" A familiar voice asked."No, Alpha Chris. After she turned into her human form while fainting, she's been just like that." Someone said,It wasn't Cleo's voice. Hmm. Perhaps Chris flew all the way to Silent Hills city with a small team

Chapter 54Jace's POV "Let this be a lesson to all those who think they can fool the Alpha King just because I trust them." I announced as I paced around with a flaming torch in my hand. Behind me a pyre was built in the middle of the city for people to watch. On it Liza was tied to a pole. She was drenched with petrol and shaking. Her eyes were red. She begged me to let her go, that she was honestly apologetic. That she acknowledged her blunder and would go away. "My trust has never been a weakness. My willingness to believe in those who stand beside me does not make me blind, nor does my kindness make me a fool. I give people my trust because I choose to see the good in them. Because I consider them my previous ones. But the moment that trust is betrayed, do not mistake my silence for ignorance. And don't ever think that you can outsmart me."I came to a halt. The flames were crackling beside my face. It was night now, the sky was dark with no stars. There were light poles around
