The forest falls eerily silent as Lena crumples into Kai’s arms. I saw that look she gave him, saw how it broke him, and know there’s nothing we can do about it right now. But we will be lucky if our mate doesn’t hate us. My mates climb out of the car slowly, keeping their hands visible and movements deliberate. Kai reaches a hand in, stilling as the wolves around him growl a warning, but I ignore it as I place my hand in his. We stop for camp one last time, deciding it’s better to mentally prepare to meet the crazed wolf king than to go in tired and grouchy. A part of me is still worried that he won’t see Kai as the little brother that went missing, but a hindrance to this Fae treaty he is trying to get signed.I couldn’t cut it as Fae royalty, there’s no way I’ll cut it as Wolf royalty if I kill the current king and force Kai to take over.
